Default *Updated 7/14 with pics* Carbon fiber hood problem

Ok, I finally got my carbon fiber hood after waiting a grueling 6 weeks. So when I get to the shop to pick it up I look it over very carefully to make sure there is no damage. At which point I find nothing out of the ordinary so we install it and off I go. Well when I get home and start to clean off all the hand prints and dust I notice a large bubble right on the top of the hood towards the front. About the size of a nickel. It looks like part of the gel coat bubbled up and now that is all I see. So I call the guy who ordered it and he tells me it is normal and should go away after a few washes or about a month. So now what? Do I wait the month or have him return it for a new hood? Is this normal or is he yanking my chain? Sorry don't have a camera at this time to take a picture of the hood.

If anyone out there has had a similar issue please fill me in.

By the way it looks awesome on the FM, but that bubble has to go!

Ok here are better shots I took this morning of the "bubble" Looks like poopie!

The hood was supposed to be from VIS, but there is nothing on it that says that. I do not have my camera at this time so I can't get a pic posted of the blemish.

You can feel the bubble because it rises off the hood so I am inclined to think it will not go away.

I don't have a vendor name. Sounds sketchy, but I got it through a friend of a friend.

The only part number I can see is a small sticker at the bottum of the hood with Chinese writing and the number 00022008. Nothing else on the hood. Looks like I will be making a call to return a hood for one with NO blemishes.

Exept for that one small blemish the hood looks great. The weave is perfect and the fit is right on. Gaps on all sides are even and the hood needed no adjustments when installed.

Maybe the next one will be better. As soon as my camera gets home I will post some pics.

Thanks for all the info!

A bubble in the gel coat? Couldn't that be corrected by a body shop?

I thought about that, but I don't want to spend more money on something that should be defect free in the first place.

I just looked under my hood. The VIS badge is located right below the hood latch and on the drivers side theres a number 04SITC-010 hope this helps. I purchased it from www.houseofscion.com.

All Vis hoods have their "Vis Racing" badge right underneath the hood by the latch. I have a vis hood on my box, and it has it so does everyone elses that bought from them. I hate to break it to you, but i seriously doubt its a Vis product. They have some of the best quality parts on the market as far as CF goes, and the bubble is definitely not "normal". Did you buy direct from Vis? Because thats really the only way to get true Vis products, some outside stores carry their products but they always go through Vis to get them.

I suggest you ship the hood back and demand another. I also would recommend calling Vis directly and finding out if you bought one of their products or something else. They will take care of you.

I believe thats just an ID number. I dont know if that would help this guy out or not, but the do always have numbers on the drivers side!

I just did some more checking and this is NOT a VIS hood as I was told it would be. Nothing on the hood leads to VIS. I guess that is what happens when you try to shave a few dollars for the sake of keeping it cost effective.

^^
Are you able to send the hood back for a refund? If not i would recommend selling the CF hood, and buying a real Vis hood. Going through Vis direct is the best way to go IMO. Great service, fast ship, and the really pack the living crap out of it so they rarely get re-ships due to poor packing.

Saving money is nice, but spending a little more knowing your getting a great quality product is better. Sorry for your loss, i hope everything works out! If you need to ask me anything just PM me or ask me on your thread!

Go direct with Vis, better safe than sorry. Not to mention their service is excellent.

^^

I use hood pins and they recommend using hood pins. You don't have to, obviously, but its a risk i didn't want to take.
