tC Side Airbags: Did you get them?
Clearly the tC comes with driver and passenger front airbags and even a driver knee airbag. But did any of you opt for the $650 side airbags? If so, why did you? Have they been tested and are good quality?
yep, parents wanted me to get side airbags and the dealer was gettin an '06 5spd BSP (color/tranny combo i wanted) with airbags in next couple o days so deposit went down pretty quick
guess id have probly have taken whatever came in first in color/tranny combo i wanted side airbags or not but its nice havin extra peace of mind i guess

I got the airbags because you can never have too much safety. My well-being is worth a hell of a lot more than $650. It's $650 bucks I hope I never put to use. But I'd rather have it, and never need it, than to one day need it, and not have it.
i didnt get them in my 05 but my 06 will have them b.c my dad bought em for me. friend wrapped his 14.0 second teg around a pole going about 100 they say. shouldnt of lived but since his seat belt wasnt on he traveled across the car. broken neck, left femur, hip socket, seperated vertebrae, and bruised kidney. lucky to be alive and was stupid for driving that fast.
it wasnt street racing either so dont assume.

I'm not so much worried about it, but I had planned to get them if they had one on the lot. But I didn't really want to wait for an order to come in with them since it's still very safe anyways.
I bought my tC the day they were released.. the only reason I got the side airbags is because the car I got was the only one with a manual transmission in the color I wanted that my dealer could get so early.
My insurance is cheaper because if the increased passive restraint discount.

I don't think the side airbags matter for insurance. I thought they did when I was shopping, but turns out, it really just matters if it has front driver/passenger.
Now there might be a couple insurance companies that care about the side airbags, but I'm pretty sure most don't.
I'm just talking about what I've heard though, so if anyone has any facts or links on this, I'd be interested in seeing them.

I got the side airbags just for the extra safety. My girlfriend's father died in a car accident a few weeks before I bought my tC. He was t-boned, and they said that if his car had side airbags he most likely would have lived. So that was my reason for getting them. Oh and about the discount, it's really up to the individual insurance company. Some companies have higher rates but then offer lots of discounts to make you feel like you're getting a great deal, whereas other companies don't offer the myriad of discounts, opting for a simply lower rate across the board.

I got them 1) for safety and 2) lower insurance. If your carrier offers them then the $650 is actually paid BACK to you over time. Keep in mind though that you can do many interior mods like the pillar gauge mods or replace the seats with racing seats (not sure about leather--but pretty sure not that too).
Yes, I got them because I live in Texas, and 3 out of 5 cars (or more) are huge trucks or SUVs. If one of those bastards t-bones you, you'll wish you had side airbags too...if your lucky enough to still be around. The discount I got from my car insurance was an added, unexpected benefit.
