Default How can this break?!

So I wake up today and head outside. It rained a bit last night and I see something on top of my car I figure is just water. But wait, it's got dimension.

So I walk up to and the wind-guard (the glass that pops up when you open your sun roof) is broken! It's pretty much shattered around the edges and the glass is sitting all over the top. There are no points of impact and it doesn't look like something hit it at all.

There is no reasonable explination for how it could have broke. Has anybody ever heard of this happening? Will my dealer's warranty cover it? I'm freakin furious and I have no clue as to what t do.

I'm assuming you have a tC, you haven't updated your
profile.

Take it to the dealer, there have been issues with the
sunroof rattling and pinching and things.

I figured since I was posting it in the tC forums that it would be self-explanitory. I know there's been issues with the rattling and noises from the hatch/roof but I'm not entirely sure if the dealer will fix the roof BREAKING. While it's extremely clear that it was caused by some sort of a defect I'm not entirely sure the dealer will see things that way. I would not be suprised one bit if they try to claim that it was a normal wear and tear issue.

Several members here have had the same issue. If I recall, some were covreed under warranty and some were not. Those that had impact evidence were not covered. Take it to a dealer immediately and ask them.

I thought I read that there was a TSB concerning the thermal expansion of those panels...but it might have just been gas. Hope it works out for you, sorry it happened at all.
Good luck.

bad thinking...your post could be moved to maint and car care and no body would know what car you have...
if you had the icon of you model under your name there would be no doubt.

please update your profile.

Bad thinking? So my past 3-4 posts concerning problems with my tC were made in bad taste when nobody informed me then or moved them? Amazing.

Anyways, Thank you flapjacks. Now that I know other's have had issues and there might be hope I'm going to take pictures of everything before I even move it so I can show the dealer.

Appreciate that but there wasn't really a resolution in that incident. The last we heard the dealer may set the victem up with a rental. I was hoping to find some actual information and closure as to people who've experienced this before.

The only other incident I've heard about it was when some guys entire sun roof popped. Only problem is that was posted before the new forums went live and I couldn't find the post.

Well since I've received some hope that the dealer may resolve this I went ahead and took pictures of it (including the pieces of glass scattered all over the top) and contacted the assistant service manager at my dealership.

Unfortunately he didn't answer so I left a message. If I don't hear from him within the hour I'm going to see if I can climb the ladder and contact his boss. I want this resolved today.

You probably won't get very far with that sort of attitude.

Well considering I have the assistant manager's direct contact because of numerous problems both with the car and the service department I think I've learned how to handle these guys. Thanks for the concern though! Hugs and kisses.

Yeah I just got done dealing with a broken roof, so I might know what I'm talking about.

But hey, you're the one who's obviously Mr. Powerful with them. I'm sure they're shaking in their boots.

Mr. Powerful huh? I kind of like that.

I never claimed to be in any sort of power. I am however a disgruntled customer who's regretted purchasing this car on numerous conditions. From what information I can find not every dealer is willing to work with the consumer when it comes to a broken roof.

I was just pointing out the fact that I'm attempting to cover my rear and that I'm going to try and do whatever the hell I can to get an answer from my dealer today. I'm not entirely sure if it will be the wisest thing to let this little problem go on for more than a day or two.

Your sarcasm and personal attacks are greatly appreciated though, thanks!

boo hoo.

//edit: And not only that, I was trying to be helpful with a little advice on working with the dealership (albeit admittedly sarcastic...). The dealership that assisted me with my roof problem was nothing short of spectacular once I changed my own attitude and stopped blaming them for what was wrong with my car. Their responsibility is to make the repairs, and I made sure not to interfere with that process by being a jerk to them.

Update for those that are interested:

They're going to have to have the shop foreman look at it before they can make any decisions. He's out until Tuesday. Sucks a lot but I guess I have no other choice on this one.

It rained a little in the middle of the day. It's extremely worse now. There are absolutely no smooth edges around the whole thing and huge cracks going through the middle of it all.

Hey guys, go make yourselves a sandwich. I suggest the following:

- Toast a fresh English muffin
- Slice it in half and coat the bottom one with some mayo
- Add about 1/2 worth of premium roast beef
- Put a slice of Muenster cheese on top
- Add some slices pepperoncini peppers and cucumbers
- Sprinkle with olive oil, and vinegar
- Add a bit of black pepper
- Put the other half of the muffin on top, and enjoy a fine sandwich
- Optional: Add some Tabasco sauce

That plan right there is so much better than talking about Mr. Powerful, or whatever else.

it often happens on teh intarweb; these "battles" that are not really battles. they happen because someone misunderstood something they read.

when people "talk" to others they can hear and see teh ideosyncrasies that show when teh other person is kidding, being an @$$, etc. when reading what others wrote, people often tend to expect teh worst and "read into" comments made by others as if they were being mean, when in fact they weren't trying to be and were really trying to be helpful. that being said, that sandwich sounds aweful, you f'in meddler....jk (note the jk.)
