Default got in a four car accident in my new RS 1.0 tC

i wasn't at fault, i was the 2nd car of four in a chain reaction rush hour bumper to bumper fender bender. seeing as the 4th vehicle caused it all and fled the scene, the cops didn't cite anybody, thus leaving me to use my own insurance to fix the damage. both front and rear bumpers were slightly crunched and the damage is barely noticeable. has anybody had any damage repaired along these lines? if so how much was the tab? I won't be able to get out for an estimate for a while and am just wondering if somebody has an idea. thx.

Default the pics don't show very much...

the damage is fairly slight and doesn't show up well on the pics taken by my crap 2 megapixel. the rear bumper has a slight impressiom from the black rubber trim that lines the bumper of the truck that hit me. my front bumper was slightly bowed and the freakin top grill broke free of the brackets that hold the bottom corners in place. the grills are not damaged at all. what's interesting is the cop's amazement at the durability of the tC. he said given the impact from the rear by a Ford F150 and the frontal collision with a Dodge Dakota 4X4, he was very surprised the damage wasn't far worse. he didn't even notice any damage on my vehicle until i led him over to both front and rear and pointed it out. i'm not at all jazzed about paying out of pocket to fix a brand freakin new car!!!

gotta love that they can take off and not get a ticket. its like well that sucks sorry everybody but you are on your own. same thing happened to me once and the cop asked me what i was complaining about since my car wasnt too dented and left. but it took 45 minutes for them to get there (less than 1 mile from the station).

First of all, hope everyone was okay... sorry to hear about your car.

Now deftone, before you panic about the no available parts rumor... my fiance, who is a Director of Operations & Body Shop Mgr in a West LA dealership fixed a tC last week, he called me to tell me all about it bcus it was Azure Pearl... the car was in and out in a week and had both bumpers replaced.

You will be just fine, you just may have to take advantage of that rental car coverage (I hope you have) for a week or so.

Never discussed it that in depth with him, he just told me what the damage was, that it took the hit pretty well and he was pretty impressed by it overall.

Scion is pretty sticky about pricing of their products, very sticky actually, I would think that your estimates will have the variance in the R/R&I (Remove & Re-Install), body Labor, paint and paint labor, I would think that the parts pricing will have little variance from shop to shop. And depending on the damage... bumpers are made to flex, since you are paying cash and depending on the damage you may be able to just have them repaired. Did it on my 04 bimmer that I just sold, little ding in the bumper, no reason to buy a $500 bumper.

Just make sure it goes to someone you trust or go to the Toyota/Scion dealer and get a referral, they want happy customers so they won't send you to Bob's Podunk Fly-by-Night body shop.

If not, come visit Ca for a week and I will hook you up with the best body shop on the planet!

thank you once again Tracy. the damage is so slight that it might not even be worth it to fix (and scoobyroo2002
, the damage doesn't show in pics without me setting up a photo shoot with professional grade lighting). the bumpers aren't cracked but are ever so slightly mishapen in the center sections. i snapped the grill back in place although there is permanent damage to the little corner sections that hold the lower part of the upper grill in place.

bumpers are easy to get. I had mine damaged last OCT along with my inner tie rod. It was the tie rod that took a week to arrive. The bumper came to collision shop in one day.

Good luck and glad nobody was hurt. Hopefully the person who fled will get his/her just due down the road.....

I would tell you then don't break the factory paint until you have to. I just sold my Bimmer, the damage was so slight after I had it buffed out that you couldn't tell unless you are right up on it, that was why I left it alone, you only get 1 shot at factory paint.

The grill that comes in that RS 1.0 is pretty nice so a billet won't fix that one... you are the only one who knows and if it takes all that trouble to get pics then it is my guess that your the only one who will see it as well. If its is not (literaly) broke, then why fix it.

thats right , 160 hp on a 5 speed is as fast as you could possibly drive around town unless you plan on just being a dick and cutting off old granny drivers all day.

I dont even tip into the throttle and its quicker through the turns then one could possibly get away with if the cops were staring.

Ya, its a real sports car , it just doesnt have some 5 liter engine you cant even tap into. I have owned a 5 and a 6 liter engine before too. Never got to use that power in the slightest, they just hardly moved in the rpm band. Pretty much just like the 2.4 liter on this. Maybe I will buy a Ferrari to "getz my respects" haha

wow, I need to take a break from all my postings
this could very well be my last scionlife post for the year,
