Kamanari Hood scoop
I really wanted to get this hood for my tC but had a few questions before getting it. I ____ the whole reversed coul hood scoop...it looks cleans and almost acura NSX type. Anyway it is a founctioning hood scoop? and also is there anything under the hood like sound deading metireal. and finally does anyone know where i can get one for cheap? oh btw i dont want the cf hood, just the regular one. thanks for your help party ppl
The kamanari hood is not really functional. Unless you have a top mounted intercooler. or i could see if you had a short ram intake to make the air inside the engine bay functional. You can get the hood @ creative compacts and racingsolution.com
it is semi functional... it can cool off the engine bay a little more, which can help your intake by allowing the air to be slightly cooler. that hood is ok looking imo, but it is to damn costly for a hood... if i were you id wait to see what eles comes out, but your choice.
that hood is not functional PERIOD.
the hole is super duper small and air BARELY flows through... i dont even think there is a hole at all. ill have to double check.
that hood is primarily for looks.... but stayed tuned for 2-3 months. vented hood coming out soon

The reason why i didnt want it to be functional is because i do not want anything gettin in the engine bay...i just like the way it looks...besides its not gonna be beneficial with a CAI. The reason why i like it is because it looks like the NSX reverse coul hood scoop. The other thing is that because it is a REVERSE COUL hood scoop it will not let outside air in but rather "suck" out hot air from the engine (if its a functional scoop) A reverse coul scoop uses faster moving outside air to sort of create a vacum and sucks out the hot inside air. Also from a physics stand point of view...hot air rises, so a hole on the hood lets that hot air escape. as the car moves the faster outside sucks out the air inside the engine bay.....At least this is what i think....others are more then welcom to disagree with me and post their opinions, just as long as you can prove your point hehehe
air enters the engine bay via bumper opennings/grill, flows through the radiator and intercooler (if applicable), exits out the hood opening.
the potential benefits:
-creates better flow for more efficient cooling for radiator and intercooler.
-exiting air contributes to areodynamics by creating some downforce.
-without an exit, the engine bay creates drag by become a big parachute by trapping incoming air (same reason why race cars have their windows rolled up).
the NSX (mid engine, but front mount radiator) and Lancer Evo (front mount intercooler) use these scoops for the same purpose despite their different engine layouts/aspiration.
Japanese tuners love these hoods because they love aircooled turbocharging. They want the most amount of air to flow through their massive front mount air-to-air intercoolers, but where does all this air go afterwards? Hence the reverse scoop. If you use an air-to-water intercoolers, you dont need a massive openning. Thats why some pro-import drag cars dont have such opennings.
reverse cowl/scoop hoods are another example of race technology that isnt practical for daily driving. you need to be going at intense speeds and running really high engine temperatures to truely benefit from a hood like this....but it still looks cool.
i dont know anything about the kaminari tc hood, so i do not speak for its design or functionality.

with the shortage of CF on hand. its making it difficult and creating unexpected delays.
