Default New 2005 xB Owner........

Hi folks! I just purchased a new 2005 xB and am quite elated! Only one problem I think I got a little ahead of myself as I went to Circuit City and purchased a SIR-PNR1 so I could get my Sirius radio activated and good thing I came here before attempting to install it because from what I am reading it isn't going to work. So my question is a SIR-PNR1 will definitely not work with the stock Pioneer HU? If so I guess I am just stuck paying the ridiculous dealer price and let them install it?

Has anybody here dealt with discounttiredirect.com as I was looking to buy a rim and tire set from them to avoid the high cost of the Scion alloy rims.

Thanks,

John

welcome to the scionlife family!

im not sure what sirius player you have but the insstructions i beleve should be easy. where are you from? you can probably find a scion buddy to help you install what you need

discounttire is pretty good.

look around the forum for wheel types, their are plenty of threads in thread and butter. and look in the images and get ideas from there too. you can save more than you think if you ask around

-Paul

P.S. use the search function too if you think you need to ask a topic that may have been asked already.

I was shopping last week and was going to buy the same thing. I decided to go with a FM modulated untit because I wanted to move it from car to home. I was told it has a IP-Bus connector and our HU's have RCA jacks. There is another part that you need that is another box, a little smaller than the SIR-PRN1 that converts from the IP_Bus in to RCA Out. I was told this by a guy at Circuit City, and I'm asumming he knows because one of their installers just put the same thing in his Xa.

So are you saying that our HU does not have an IPBus connector? Or is it that that unit does not work with our IPBus connector and therefore you need to go into aux rca connectors? Which if that is the case defeats the whole purpose of the Sat Ready HU! I still haven't returned the SIR-PNR1 to Circuit City yet because I cannot get a definitive answer. The dealership said that Scion isn't even making Sirius available yet so I hope this one will work as I don't really want to change the stock HU and I don't want to have to get XM. I really want Sirius.

Thanks for the responses and the welcome,

John

I've haven't dealt with them before. The only two online wheel+tire vendors i've ordered from are:

www.wheelmax.com

and

www.wheelsnext.com

I recommend both. WheelsNext more so than WheelMax.

Good luck finding a package to your liking and don't forget to post pics up when you have. All of us here love seeing everyones scion progress

Yes, twice. No problems. You will also avoid having to go and get them installed. It's great that they ship them right to you, and you could put them on as soon as they get there. They were fast too, and they deal. Tell them you only have a certain amount of money, or whatever story you want to make up. They deal.

I just placed the order with Norm at Discounttiredirect. They should be here Friday. He said since I was the last customer of the night he gave me about a $40 break. Hey every little bit helps. I ended up getting Konnig Incidents with Falken Ziex tires. I stayed with the stock 15"'s cause in my neck of the woods the roads aren't so smooth! So low profile wouldn't be the best idea for me. Plus this way I ended up with rims that I could even put the stock rubber back on in a pinch. I will post pics as soon as I get them on.

Now I am still trying to get to the bottom of the Sirius receiver thing. I really want to get hooked but I can't get a for sure answer about whether it will work or not. If I could get a definitive answer on that I would be all set. Does anybody know who I could contact about it, maybe somebody at Pioneer?

Thanks,

John

I was told that out HU does not have the IPBus connector only the RCA. Haven't had it out to look but that's what I'm told. I do agree that it is strange that they are billed as Sat ready but then they will not take a standard connection.

The xb radio does not have RCA outs, or in's. You can get the inline converters for outs that are then controlled by the CD changer button.
The car is SAT ready at present only for XM and it MUST be the Scion XM tuner. There is a Sirius in the works and it would work, but again, must use the Scion tuner when it becomes available.
You can hook aftermarket XM or Sirius only via either an fm modulator or with the line out adapter. Check with Crutchfield for how to's (or others you know)
BE VERY CAREFUL when you talk to installers at Circuit City, etc. There are some who reallydo know what they are talking about and will steer you right. BUT, if they have never worked on the xb, xa, or TC, how can they really know for sure???
I have the XM factory unit and it is one terrific unit. The sound quality is excellent and it does exactly what I want/need. And the price was great through TRDSPARKS.COM.

Problem is the Scion Sirius receiver is not available yet according to the dealer even though it was supposed to be around in February according to press releases. But still I am not sure about the question of does the stock HU have an IPBus connector or not? And if it does will it work with the SIR-PNR1? If it won't then I am not sure how Pioneer or Scion can advertise it as being Sat-Ready as it would seem to be a little misleading at best. And point being I can't buy it from Scion even if I wanted because it isn't available yet. I really prefer Sirius over XM and if I have to wait I guess I will but it stinks nonetheless.

Thanks,

John

I'm really not familiar with an IPBus connector. The back of the factory radio has 4 plugin spots. One is the power, etc, which is the one you can plug the aux input into snd then the factory harness into the adapter. The second is for the speaker wires. The other two are for the sat radio tuner input and the antenna input.
Hope this helps.

As I said in my first post, I don't know much about this BUT the installer I talked to at CC owns an XA and told me that I need to buy the PNR1 AND a converter box, I guess I can trust a Scion owner who has done the work himself to know something about what was needed. The PRN was about $100 and the converter box about $50.

Just to keep everyone up to date on my situation. I returned the SIR-PNR1 to Circuit City and got my money back as it seems that the Stock HU does not in fact have an IP-BUS connector. So for now the Sirius inst
Johnis on hold until I decide whether or not I want to change the Stock HU or should I say until I decide which aftermarket HU i want.

My rims and tires should be arriving tomorrow and I am very excited about that! I will try to post pics when I put them on.

Thanks,

John

No, the stock unit does not have an IP bus connector. It has the standard toyota ports, a port for the subwoofer, and a port for the satellite radio. You can get converters, but they're expensive.

I suggest just getting an aftermarket radio. They're easier to work with and will make your music sound better.
