Aftermarket Cruise Control
I am sure this has been discussed many time, but I can not find any postings. So if someone can point me there, that would be great.
I am looking a getting an aftermarket Cruise Control setup for me '05 xB. I know I can get the OEM one, but I do not like where it gets mounted on the column. Can any of you recommend an aftermarket one that is relatively easy to install?
Thanks for you help in advance!

Rostra makes the most widely available cruise control for Scions. Whether the dealer installs it or you do it yourself in the driveway, you're probably using the same kit. If you don't like the standard placement for the switch stalk, just ask to have it mounted in a more convenient place.
Having the cruise post point up definitely looks better from this angle but how doest it look from the seat with the wheel not turned? Is it hard to reach? I am used to buttons on the steering wheel and would love if someone knew of a cruise that I can have installed on the xB that wont void the warrenty and has buttons.
I ordered it when I bought the car. It was 300.00 installed. I believe you can buy the Rostra right off ebay for about 250 or so, maybe cheaper. It's not real hard to install (I watched) but I am glad it was someone else doing it and not me!!
I too am used to the push button type (GM) but this one really isn't hard to get used to. It's second nature now. My only gripe with the unit is that when you power it up and hit the set button, you have to hold the button firmly for a second or so for it to engage. After that you can bump the speed up or down with just momentary pushes on the accel or coast button. I also like that if you slow down and hit resume it takes you back up at a reasonable rate. My wifes Olds will slam you into passing gear if you are more than 10mph slow.

Well, allscion.com sells the kit for $179
http://www.allscion.com/cruisecontrol.html
and they state in their website that they will mail you with the order a local that would do it professional if you do not want to installed. I contacted allscion to see if there was a local close to where I live and they told me they get the info from Rostra. So, I contacted Rostra and in a week I got an e-mail from a awsome guy that sells Rostra parts in MN saying that he found me a garage 40 minutes away from my zip code that will install it and that I could call for a quote. They will do it as soo as I get my hands on a 06 xA for ~$70 less ($329 kit + installation) than what the dealer offered me
So yes I am please with this guys even thought I have not bought anything yet.

Just a bit of detail correction: The Rostra aftermarket cruise control kit is the one that SOME refer to as the "OEM" cruise control.
There IS no OEM cruise control for the xA/xB at this time, some regions/dealers simply offer the Rostra as port/dealer installed - it is STILL an aftermarket kit - the very same kit you can get yourself...

If I got the Rosta cruise control, I was thinking of not mounting it and running it into the storage compartment under the HVAC controls. I would leave the control stick loose in there. I only need it for long trips (2-3 times a year). I think doing it that way would make the install a lot easier then having to mount it on the steering column.
Just a thought.
Just a thought.
Yesterday I just finished installing the one and only listed in the Parts section of Scion Life. I purchased the electric model (as opposed to the vacuum) and spent the extra $50 for the steering wheel button controls. I didn't want a 3rd stick on my column.
The installation was straight forward. The only challenge was where to mount the throttle actuator module. There is very little real estate under the xB hood to place a 3 x 4 x 6 inch box. I finally settled on mounting it on the backside of the black sheet metal behind the upper grill on my RS 2.0. I pre-painted the hex screws and washers black so you have to look real hard to see them.
I mounted the control buttons on the wheel in the 4 and 8 o'clock positions. The plastic cowling of the steering wheel is a bit too blexible for my taste but the kit does provide metal brackets to stiffen it.
The cruise control works very well. It holds speed dead-on accurately, even uphill. I can finally give my right foot a rest during my 3+ hours of daily commute.

That is a nice location for the cruise control buttons. As first, I didn't want one because of the stick controls that the dealer had. I might just get one now!!!
I see that UBOW has installed a cc kit into his xB. Got any pictures? Or does anyone have any pictures of the control buttons mounted on a Scion steering wheel (xA's different from xB's?)?

Okay, my wife hid the camera so it took an extra day to get the pics done. Here they are.

Throttle module mounted behind upper grille.

Throttle cable was cut 34 inches shorter and routed over the battery.
