Default tC people - Anyone mounted an amp under the trunk floor?

I totally forgot that there was so much room in that styrofoam trunk tray to hold an amp, but have any of you done it? If so, could you post pics?

Thanks.

Any idea what they might've done to dissipate the heat? I'd figure I could vent it thru the trunk floor somehow.

I have done it cause i didnt want to take the spare out and yet wanted to hide the amp some how. I took a jigg saw and hollowed it out for my rockford amp and it looks sweet. The amp has only shut off once from getting too hot since i put it in. My next step is to figure some sort of plexi glass to show it off with maybe a fan.

If I went that route, I'd vent through the styrofoam over to behind the tail light where the vents to the outside are.

Not a bad idea. I should've figured you'd know exactly what everything looked like in the trunk, I haven't taken the time to do homework there yet (plus it's 115 out here right now )

hehe...yeah, if I have batteries back there, they'll be venting directly outside.

Downside is, AC will go to ____ in my car when it's not on recirculate because otherwise it's just pressurizing the cabin

i was thinking about doing the same thing. i have two big 700W blaupunkt amps sitting next to me right now, and i wanna put one on each side, and make a cut out in the foam to sit them in, but would i be able to keep all my stuff in there like the jack, tire iron, etc... ?

I installed mine in that space but I took out the foam to increase room for air to move around. Here's a pic, it's messy but it's hidden. My amp still gets a bit warm though even with all the space so I'm about to add a fan.

ProjectD, that's exactly what I have in mind.

This is how it works for me, plenty of room for my big ___ amp, now I just need to work out ventilation.

I am thinking, once I get to the sound system, of taking out the tray and building a fiberglass amp rack to fit in its place. That way I can mold in holders for fans. I am thinking of just building a fibgerglass enclosure anyway, so it could be completed at the same time.

I've never done fiberglass, but I figure I'll be fine just cutting a piece of MDF and mounting that to the floor, then mounting the amp on that. Nobody will ever see it. LOL

i basically hacked apart my foam piece like jaydub and reinforced it with raycrete (similar to bondo but better) and alunimum.
