Default a few ?s before install of CAI

i'd like to start off by saying that i did search before asking this question. i'm fairly certain this has been covered before but i couldn't find anything...

so i just got my K&N Typhoon CAI and i'm planning on installing it tonight.

1) is disconnecting the negative battery cable the way that you reset the ECU, or is there something else that has to be done? (and also is this necessary at all?)

2) right after the install... should i start up the car and let it sit and idle for any period of time or do i just take off and drive?

any other suggestions would be appreciated also.

1. not sure about ECU but i took out the battery to fit the cold air extension pipe. also took out bumper.

2. Yes, start up the car and let it idle for about 15 minutes so the o2 sensor can get used to the intake.

The bumper?? you really dont even have to remove the front wheel if you do it just right.

1) No!!! In the engine compartment, there is a fuse box near the stock airbox/battery. Check the cover for the location of the 20amp EFI fuse. Pull it and let it sit unplugged for a while. I let mine sit for the duration of the install.

2) Definitely let the car idle for at least 5-10 minutes. It's gonna be hard to resist, but I would suggest not mashing the throttle for the next few miles.

^^ Not much point in removing the fuse if the battery cable is disconnected

^^ I misread his question... I thought he said "is disco'ing the batt cable the *only* way"....removing that fuse bypasses the need for disco'ing the battery. The benefit is of course not losing your trip mileage, and more importantly, not losing your radio presets, or having to reset the windows/sunroof

just pickin at ya

Good point though. If you arent worried about shorting out anything under the hood you are better off leaving the bat cable connected and using the fuse.

there's no need to disconnect your negative battery cable. i installed mine. turned it on for 5 minutes and then drove.

alright i just got done installing it and everything went pretty smoothly...
i didn't see all of these posts before i installed it and i only let the car idle for about 2 minutes or so before i drove. i was on it pretty much full throttle. just couldn't resist. could i have f'ed something up? would it be alright if i just go outside now and let it run for a while?

also i can not roll down my passenger side window from the driver's side and my sunroof was acting funny too. this is my main concern. whats up with this?

nothing wrong, jus normal when taking out battery. happened to me so dont worry.
hold passenger side window switch up and down for 10 seconds then its done. also for the moonroof.
yeah let it idle for 15 minutes.

It won't hurt your car any to drive it WOT like that...basically the concern is that you want to let the car idle for a while so that the MAF sensor and the ECU can adjust to each other. It's possible you could suffer some gas mileage if the MAF and the Ecu dont adjust properly.

It wouldnt do any good to let it idle now, unless you un did the fuse/battery before hand.

The window/sunroof behavior is due to the battery being disco'd. So basically you need to "reset" them. do this by turning your car on, but not started. Hold the driver window switch down so that it goes all the way down, then hold it so that the window goes all the way up, and hold it there for a few seconds. Repeat that process on the passenger side, from the passenger side seats (won't work using the driver side passenger switch). Do the same thign with the sunroof

i just installed my K&N Typhoon last weekend... does anyone else think it's pretty ghetto to just have the vacuum switching valve hang there on the bracket, instead of having a hole to plug it into like in the stock airbox? does that thing take any readings from the air, it seems odd to have something that was inside the airbox, now sitting in the engine compartment unplugged.

also not sure if I like the whistling squeaky sound I hear when I am at part throttle -- I only hear it when the window's down, but it bugs me. I'm not looking for any faux turbo sounds. Sounds good when you really get on the throttle though.

Same whistling noise the tC makes without the intake. The intake simply makes it louder. I can hear mine with the windows up and I dont have an intake yet.

question:
I have wanted to get a CAI.. but I have noticed the actual end is down in the wheelwell.. what happens when it rains heavily.. does that thing start sucking all the water in?
what to do? us NY'ers dont get the 300+ sunny days you cali folks do. lol

there should be a little protection on the tC because there is plastic covering around the bottom of the fender but there are 2 holes on the bottom plastic covering. a little water would go threw but i would buy a bypass valve to be safe. im looking for one but i dont know what size i should get to fit the piping of the injen CAI.

what about just going with a shorter pipe? maybe with a cold air box?
