none that i know of for throttle bodies. it would have to be custom mounted and would probably have a CEL. unless its not your daily driver, i would never do cams or ported heads. if you wanted to go fast, you shoulda got something else IMO. i understand wanting to make it faster, but when you do internal stuff you start messing with drivability.

It's not always about making it faster...and I keep hearing "you should have got another car if you wanted fast".
We bought ours in MA. and were plenty happy with it commuting from home to work and what not. When we got on the freeway to head home to LA. is when we ran into problems...
this thing was next to impossible to even do the posted speed limit in some areas. And forget about merging on some onramps. I am not a speed demon, but it would be nice to not get killed because I can't get out of someones way. I am all for extra power and hate it when there are so many people that shut us down for asking.

A larger throttle body isn't going to help at all naturally aspired.

for a custom job i'd guess it'd cost like 300 or so dollars and you'd get maybe a 1hp gain. not worth it by my estimates

The base design for this car, very little changed for its introduction into the US market, was a "City Car." It was designed as a small, space-efficient, reliable urban utility vehicle (UUV). The original doesn't even come with any place to put a spare tire...

That these odd little boxes do as well as they do on our freeways speaks well for the basic engineering of a vehicle never intended for 3000 mile drives at 70+.

It WOULD be nice to have more muscle at times, but over many years of driving I've had a lot of vehicles that could be considered seriously underpowered (and a few that were seriously overpowered).

The marginally powered vehicles can make one actually a better driver - one learns to plan ahead for many things because sudden acceleration just isn't there. One gets lazy driving a vehicle that can accelerate, turn, and stop with gusto. One ends up depending too much on that sudden burst of power to get out of difficulty, insead of staying ahead of the curve to keep out of trouble.

Living in mountain and hill country, I'd like to have just a bit more punch available so the poor thing could stay in top gear more, but all things considered, my City Car does all right. :D

At least it's an honest little beast.

I agree with Tomas for all of those that complain that they can't merge on to freeways and stuff. My last car was a 95 SC Bonneville and that was a dream to merge with. Things like not riding the bumper of the person in front of you and not being a wimp getting on the freeway will more than make up for the "lack" of merging power in the Scion's. I travel I94 to 494/694 every day and have to deal with bad drivers yet I have no problems with the power of my xB and merge just fine.

On the side note I'd love to have more power but it's so cost prohibitive that I'd have been better off just getting a sports car. For example there is a "bolt-on" turbo kit that claims 50-100hp gain on the xA and xB for a range of $2800 to $4000. Then there's the CAI and high-flow filter that ranges $200 to $400 that adds 4-10hp. High-flow muffler systems that will and 1-5hp for another $200 to $700. Seeing that our cars have only 108hp that’s a lot of gain for a few thousand dollars but that’s up to you as to what you want to spend. Not to join in and get on ya but there are a few "cheaper" things to add some zip to our cars but nothing that adds power to em.

Just my 2 cents, sorry that was a little long

yep i dont think i would do a new TB unless i had FI.

mine right now is a 5speed, exhaust, and intake. (and grounding kit but i dont care what you say, it doesnt affect a darn thing so i dont count it)

i have never found a time where i was "underpowered" when merging or anything. will i go FI eventually? yep probably will. im satisified with it now, but i like the occasional kick in the pants power on tap. the throttle body will likely do nothing for most. i dont think its really that essential either seeing as unless you have big power adders, youll just mess up driveability.

stick to bolt ons like intake and exhaust and its more than enough power

i think the underpowered factor is dependant upon owners previous cars. i have probably the fastest n/a xB and i think mine is underpowered. but i came from a 250hp sports car. so yeah .

The only mod you could possibly do to the 1nz to create a decent amount of gain is to eliminate the cat. Have a muffler shop cut and bend a test pipe. Also drilling and welding O2 bungs' and use an O2 sim/MIL eliminator.
That's the only mod IMO i would do for "gains" all else is just for sound and appereance IMO

actually most cat's nowadays flow pretty well. the flow better than old cats and filter better too!!! you'd gain at most 4hp. but your car would be federally illegal and you could face a 30k fine.

All of you have very good points on this, and I do agree with the better part of it. Like I said, I keep reading "shoulda got a faster car" and it makes me ill. I love my xB. I came from an 04 XRS and (before that a Mustang GT) it got better mileage (37+ on the highway where the xB is still getting around 31) but I still like the xB better. It is SUPER for around town and such, just my wife and I travel for work and would like a little extra in the power dept. or at least a little more pep. Can anyone tell me how to improve mileage too? 30 HWY is crap!

From what I've done with other cars, a better intake like a CAI with a good air filter (my preference is K&N but there may be better) will get you 1-3mpg maybe more. Turn the AC off and roll the windows down will get you 2-3mpg. Better spark plugs 1-3mpg.

Now what I've read and been told says CAI, header, lighter pulley (not sure what pulley that is), lighter rims, redo/make better ground connections from the battery and if possible remove any other excess weight. Oh drive as much as you can between 55 and 65mph (but I haven't seen a gain doing that in my xB yet). With that people (not Toyota) are claiming 40mpg but I've yet to see that high. Oh and last note on that most of the gains will be from highway miles not city miles.

No offense, but why post in this section of the forum if all you are going to do is lecture people on buying the "wrong car" if they want more power? This is the Power Hungry section right?

I plan on getting intake and exhaust for my XB and I don't really care if it only gives me 3HP. It's fun! For some people, that's what it's all about with these cars.
