ok i dont know if this has been posted before or not but i could not find it if it was. I want to turbocharge my 05 tc and it is automatic. does anyone know what i will need to modify my transmission to support a turbo? the turbo i am hoping for is from turbonetics, good for 100+hp. maybe i dont need anything?

 

You would be fine with a first stage turbo staying under 300 whp.

 

our transmission can support up to the zpi stage 0 for sure but a rough guess would be about 255-265whp before youd need to start upgrading the transmission im contacting a company right now about seeing what the upgrade would cost the upgrade consist of the physical transmission its self and the torque converter.

the car hasn't really been around to have lots of feedback with turbo'd automatics with more miles and more boost but you may want to upgrade your trans cooler

 

get some good tranny mounts and motor mounts and it should hold up just fine

 

Change your current ATF for Redline ATF, and like the others have sugested install an aftermarket tranny cooler, and engine mounts. Unfortunately no mounts are avialable yet (hopefully Energy Suspension will pick up the ball), but there is a torque damper available (currently on sale in the sponsored sale forum).

 

Yea, a nice stall converter in the dyno'ed power band will make the auto king of the track.

what's a torque converter? is it like a torque damper?

 

Does anyone know what model A/T the TC brings? If it's the same as the camry then

A torque converter is a type of fluid coupling, which allows the engine to spin somewhat independently of the transmission. If the engine is turning slowly, such as when the car is idling at a stoplight, the amount of torque passed through the torque converter is very small, so keeping the car still requires only a light pressure on the brake pedal.

If you were to step on the gas pedal while the car is stopped, you would have to press harder on the brake to keep the car from moving. This is because when you step on the gas, the engine speeds up and pumps more fluid into the torque converter, causing more torque to be transmitted to the wheels.

Torque converter is key. By replacing your converter, it is like having a variable gear ratio. People always think that if you have a high stall converter, your car won't start to move untill you hit that RPM, not true. They just are not transfering 100% of the power that it is able to. ( Unless you have a lock up converter, it will never transfer 100% of the power. Just 100% of the power it is capable) The stall rating is just the point when the converter is transfering all the power it can. So you want to pick a converter based on what RPM your power band is and cam and what not. A converter is the first thing you should go for if your are planning on running an automatic for drag. To sum it up. They won't give you more power, they will help you utlize the power that you have.
