15" x 8" ATS Cup rims came in today (at least two of them did). Holly fat lips!!! Check those 4" suckers out. Unfortunately they sent me all 18 offset when they were supposed to send two of them in 28 (for the front). Anyway, they should all be here and on the ride by the end of the weekend. Until then I'll just have look at them in the living room.

I actually can't decide what size tires to put on them.. The problem is that I'm trying to find some that have raised white lettering on the side. I think that will look dope with those rims. Anyways, the only ones that seem to fit are the BFGoodrich Radial T/A. I think those look great, but the only sizes with the white lettering are 205/60/15 and 215/60/15. The 205's have a diameter of 24.7 inches, but I'm wondering if they are too narrow for the 8" rims. The 215/60 have a diameter of 25.2 and that might be just a little too much tire (and might create rubbing problems). If I don't go with either Radial T/A then I'll settle fro some dope 225/50/15's that won't have the lettering I want, but will be fat and be a diameter that is close to stock. I will be dropping the ride on Ground Control coil overs. Probably 2" in rear and 2.25" front. It all depends on how big the tires are. Any suggestions would be great.

you must have gotten those from steve at tunershop, or colour tuning in germany. those wheels are really dope ive always loved those things on vws... i actually thought bout getting a set of those before i got my schmidt modern lines. as far as tires go i would go with the BFGs you have pictured up there, thats what i plan on goin with in 205s. my modern lines are also 15x8s... nice choice in wheels, its about time we get some more people goin with some heavy german wheels :) .. gj

edit.. also ATS makes another dope set of wheels called "Classic" but im sure youve heard of those.. they are also really dope looking but come in 13x8s

looked over the picture again, and what do ya know, theres a tunershop sticker on the box... damn all i got to say is, steve is coolest guy to buy from... great prices on wheels w/ free shipping, no tax and 3 day shipping from GERMANY!!1.. wait till i get my Borbets.

if these wheels were goin on a vw (what i normally see them on) i would say hell yeah stretch some 195/45 at that.. but on a scion, go with what you already have in mind with some big beefy tires. The reason i say this is, unless you plan on dropping it 3" or more its not gonna look too good with the stretched tires, also our cars have really big wheel wells and with small wheels like 15s and stretched tires it will just look funky. I have some 15x8s that i bought about 2 months ago and when i first got them i put one of them on to see how it would look, and it looked pretty awful, i have the goldlines that lower it 2" and it still looked like it needed to go down another 2". so until i either get some bigger tires or i fix my GTi and put them on it, they will be sitting on my bedroom floor. Either way you go good luck and props to you for some sick wheels.

Nope. Not in yet. They said either Friday or Monday which probably means Tuesday or Wednesday. Anyway, I decided on the BF Goodrich Radial T/A in the 205/60/15 with the lettering. Yet to order the tires because I want to have them done at the same place as I have my Ground Control adjustable springs installed and I haven't found a reasonable quote yet. If anyone knows of a good tire place in the LA area that could also install springs/coil overs let me know!

Just passing along some info i found. Try the link below ....

http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/assets/pdf/radial_ta.pdf

I found that the 205 minimum rim width is 5.5"-7.5" And the 215 is 6"-7.5" To get a true fit on the 8" wheel, you would have to go with a 225/60R15, which measures 9" wide on a 6.5" wide wheel.

True is that CBSIMONSEZ. However, I'm thinking that the 225/60/15, which has a diameter of 25.6 inches would be way too big for the xB. Even the 215/60 has a diameter of 25.2 and might be too big as well. I guess I'm willing to deal with some stretch to be on the safe side. I'm definitely interested in what people think on this. Is 25.2 gonna be way too big? I'd love to go with 215 rather then 205 if I can swing it. Also, thanks for the pic. I'm just that much more impatient to get them on my ride NOW!

Scion Life is sold out and H&R says inventory will not be restocked until June. Any suggestions would be appreciated (as in known places w/ inventory or other good brands for the xB). if you dont mind me asking, how much were those tires.

You can get them for around $60 - $70 online. I got mine for $70 with mounting and balancing.

What suspension are you running again?

I have the Ground Control adjustable springs. They call them a coilover, but you use what ever shocks/struts you want (I have stock on mine). They cost around $420 and can drop from 0.5" to 2.75". It took some time to figure out the adjustments, but now I'm very happy I can tinker with the drop. I dropped the rear an additional 1/8" today and it only took like 10 minutes.

You said the wheels are 8" wide. Do you think you could get 225 section tires on there without rubbing suspension bits or hitting fenders?

The 225's in this tire for a 15" are 225/60/15 which has a diameter of 25.6". I'm thinking that would be too much. The 215's has a diameter of 25.2. That's a lot of tire as well. I'm think that these wheels would work with a 225, but you would need a 225/50/15 or perhaps a 225/55/15. Unfortunately the Radial T/A doesn't come in either of those sizes. I'm not really sure about rubbing, but you would probably need a really low offset and the wheels would stick way out, but that could look cool.

(---damn...a little late to this party!)

Minsk, those wheels are going to look just perfect on your ride! I like your sense of style mister, damn fine xB.

Did you decide on the tires yet? I thought the stock tires would look less substantial on 15/7's but the stretch isn't noticeable if any so, I think even if you went with the 205's you will get the desired effect.

Wouldn't the 215's get a little bouncey?

Whichever tire size you decide on I think the result will still be pretty.

Keep up the good work!

P.S. What drop did you decide on with your GroundControl's? The fit is great with the 15's IMHO!

Did you decide on the tires yet?

Yup. That is a picture of my setup bro. All that stuff about the other tire sizes was an attempt at answering a question on what might fit. I went with the 205/60/15. The above pic is an actual picture on MY xB. Here is a really ____ty picture of the whole xB. Its really dirty and is sitting on an incline. I'll post better pics in the xB in the next day or two.

I love the look of those and I bet the thing handles like it's glued to the road. It's great to see someone venture away from the standard 18" wheel. Personally, I'm getting sick of all these big wheels. They tend to weigh a lot and they effectively raise the final gearing of the car.

Do you know how much these wheels weigh? Does anyone know the stock wheel weight?

Where can you find these wheels to purchase? How much did you pay for them?

Why did you go with more offset in the front?

Al-Truistic

Yo Minsk, clean or dirty your ride is sweet! Great job, man!

So, what's your drop? Do you think you needed to go so low because the wheels (those are some fat tires  ) still didn't fill the wheel wells?

Where in L.A. are you? I'd love to see and hear your xB in person! I think the Borla single is for me if that "mature" sound is what I am thinking it sounds like.

Anyway, congratulations!

Minsk99
03-31-2004, 05:05 AM
Thanks Al. I'm not exactly sure of the drop on my Ground Control (relative to stock). Because my wheel diameter is almost an inch larger then stock, I am able to really fill in the gap and not be so close to the ground that I scuff my fender. Also, because I've got all that tire its kind a like having a second set of shocks. I have yet to bottom out on my drop. I've gone pot hole hunting in the Hollywood Hills and my Radials have done me right. I live very close to Silverlake (5 minutes away) so anytime you want to hear the Borla give me a PM.

I got the tires for $70 each including mounting and balancing. $270 per rim. The 8" are a limited edition that ATS made for Kerscher Tuning so they are expensive. If you are looking for a deep lip try hunting down the ATS Stern (also made for Kerscher) with a 15" x 9" in the rear and a 15" x 7" in front. That would look so Slammin! Also you wouldn't be bitin my ___. Just playin with ya. Anyway, Steve at Tunershop is a good place to check.

it depends on how low you wanna go.. i was running 16x9s all around for a while with a 2" drop with no major issues, but i had stretched tires, they were wrapped w/ 215/40s. the only issue i ever had was with the rear passenger side would rub if i had people in the back seat. even if it was only one person on the driver side back seat it would rub on the passenger side but not on the driver side.. i guess the passenger rear side sticks out more then the other. im not sure if that helps you any since you dont wanna stretch your tires... rolling your fenders would be your best bet... i ended up taking them off and plan on selling them.. i just wasnt low enuff to rock them and i have to many sets of wheels and need to clean out my garage so i can start tearing apart my GTi.

Can't help it but to BUMP this up once more. :D

I'm at lost between the Brocks B2 (not a lot of lip) and the ATS Cup, Polished (mad lip). I'm concerned our brake/rotors/disc may be too wide to fit on the ATS. The ATS curves towards the lip. The B2's wont have that issue.

If the issue above is not even a concern, I would like to go with 15x7 ET of 28 on all fours. I dont want to stick out too much. Running on the stock Goodyear 185/60/15s. According to tirerack the tire can fit 5-7" rim width. Should this be okay?

Hopefully run on 195x60x15 BFG Traction T/A (excellent tire expecially in the rain and snow). I wont need any a spacers to clear the brakes right? Not into the flush look. I corner too hard anyway.

According to Tunershop ad's on VW Vortex, they include the hub rings and lugnuts. Is the hub rings mandatory?

German rims rock! :) I have to get rid of my BBS RX rims from my Gen4.5Camry.

With the ATS you might need to grind down your front brake caliper a little bit. I did, just a little with 28 offfset and 5mm spacers in the front. You may not need to grind with a lower offset (like 18 offset with 5mm spacers), but you will stick way out beyond the fender. You won't be able to rock these with a high offset look. they just won't fit unless you take off way more of your calipers then I would dare. One other thing to keep in mind is that the 7" do not have as much of a lip as the 8". They still look great though.
