Scions don't have an amp for the stock speakers, I say just upgrade to a component system and amp them if needed....especially if you plan on more upgrades down the road.....

Well, I am 62, and I readily admit that my taste in music and my taste in db levels are vastly different that most folks under 40. BUT, I changed out all my factory speakers with Pioneers 2 ways up front (4" and 6.5") and Sony 3 ways in back. The sound quality is MUCH improved over what was origionally there. Total investment was less than 100.00. I guess it really depends more than anything your level of expertise and what it takes to satisfy your wants/needs ;-)

Here's a link to my system: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=68068
I'm getting ready to add a 10" MTX sub in a custom one-off enclosure that fits where the stock "ice chest" fits in the rear next to the spare tire. All upgrades were purchased via ebay. Total investment including the sub and wiring is right at $400.

Go with infinti or Pioneer 4-ways.

again, my worry is the aftermarket spekers won't get enough power and sound crappy. i don't need or want to let everyone in my neighborhood know what i'm listening to. i'm just looking for a little more clarity.

basically, i'm installing two 8 inch rockford subs and a 300 watt rockford amp to add some bass. i know once they hit, i will not be satisfied with the sound i'm getting from the factory speakers. clean bass and muddled highs and mids = crap.

what pioneer speakers did you guys put in? a model number would be helpful.

i checked crutchfield and i saw a pioneer 2 way 5 1/4 speaker (model TS-G1340R) that they recommend. anyone tested the speaker out in their car?

in the past i've noticed smaller sized pioneer speakers tend to sound very shrill and they give off almost no bass. have things changed at all?

one more thing before i pass out from exhaustion. is it possible to toss in a larger speaker into the doors. maybe something along the lines of a 6 1/2 speaker? according to crutchfield, 5 1/4 is what fits, but i also see they suggest setting up a 6 1/2 component system.

i just want to make sure that there are some lows coming from all around instead of directly behind me. i wouldn't mind a little modification, but i really don't want to be having to buy/build brackets or anything. hopefully someone here can answer my ridiculous questions. thanks again for your input.

No matter what you do, you will need to buy/make brackets for the speakers. 6 1/2" fits fine in the front and back. 4" fits fine in the tweeter slot. Pioneer 2-ways dont really sound that good.

I'm putting in 6 3/4 Alpine Type R components up front, and 6 1/2 Alpine Type R Coaxials in the back, ill run them off a 40x4 rms amp, it is a proven setup

i think you guys are all talking about the xb. i'm talking about an xa. from what i understand, 6 1/2 speakers only fit in the back doors. at least that's what i've been told. am i wrong?
