Sunroof closes 3/4 of the way then reverses TSB?
Well this morning, I try to close my sunroof, it goes 3/4 of the way then reverses, i try a few more times same deal. I run in and do my grocery shopping and it closes fine, but I'm not screwing around, I plan on taking it to the dealer next week and having them replace the sunroof assembly.
I saw a few other people have had this problem but it sounded like they just are going to live with it. I'm not going to have this happen to me when it's going to rain that day and i have to go to work with my sunroof up.
So anyone bring it in for this before? I know it'll be warrantied, just wondering.

My sunroof on my 2002 Escape had a similar problem. The way I fixed it was hold the button down even after it closes, and you should hear some clicking noises and after those noises try doing it and it should work. Atleast I fixed my Escape doing it that way.
drgonzo, How long have you had your tC? How often do you thoroughly clean it?
If the sunroof track gets dirty it can cause the supports for the wind deflector to catch slightly which in turn trips the pinch sensor on the sunroof, which then reverses the roof to avoid injury. Try completely cleaning out the tracks and the area under the wind deflector. You could also put some high temperature grease in the tracks. (Don't use WD-40 as that's just a bandaid)
If none of the above resolves the problem, then take it to your dealer. Sunroofs require more maintenance than most people realize.
:edit: I forgot to mention, I have personally experienced this problem and the above explanation is how it was resolved.

7,000 miles. I clean it quite a bit, but had no idea I had to maintain the tracks like that. I'll take a closer look tommorow morning. Thanks, you probably saved me some screwing around at the dealer.

Same thing happened to me. It was making loud whistling noises when it was closed and i drove over 50mph. I brought it to the dealer and they replaced the entire sunroof track. They said it wasn't sitting right on the roof. Good thing it was covered on the warranty!
I had this problem as well. The wind deflector has two metal arms on each side, the sunroof hits that and pushes the two arms down to close. The wind deflector assembly wasn't allowing the sunroof to slide over the two arms and the "pinch protection" on the sunroof would cause the sunroof to open back up. You can reach on the outside and push the wind deflector down to close if you need it to. This only happened to me when it was real hot outside. I took mine to the dealer and they just sprayed the arms with white grease. This fixed my problem, but now I have just started to have the problem described above with the whistling when going above 50mph. Next time I am due for an oil change I will try to get that fixed, but everytime I go to the dealer to get anything fixed, they do a half-assed kinda job on it. I asked them to fix the rattle in my hatch, and they just sprayed the two plastic square pieces on the inside of the hatch with white grease (this was the same time as the sunroof problem). On my service report the "fix" they had perfomed was said to be "adjusted rear hatch frame, and adjust sunroof allignment." This isn't what they really did though. Good luck!

Also someone recently posted PDF's of a few of the TSB's. You can download these from my website at http://xomixx.com/tsb/
haha i read this thread the other day. Than the next day it happened to me. I left the sunroof open oh a hot day, so i guess the sun dried up the lubricant. QUICK FIX(temporary): Hold down the wind deflector as you close the sunroof. well at least this worked for me.
Thanks, that stops me having to worry about this happening at the parking lot at work in the morning.
So far, looks like the solution is to get some good high temp grease and put it in there.
The sound the roof makes as it comes out sounds like it's not silky smooth anymore, so i bet it's just a problem of it not being greased.
