After your done your Control Panel will flash telling you that you need to reset them. Go to the driver Side Panel roll the window halfway down stop and then roll it all the way up holding the button up for 3 seconds. Do the same for the other side. And your done!
tcsciontist 08-01-2005, 01:02 AM Nice mob...
I'll have you do mine too...
what color?
nice writeup but you forgot the before and after pics
thanks for the diy.. my lights went out so fast
Kaeon 08-01-2005, 01:32 AM nice writeup but you forgot the before and after pics
LOL We all know what it looks like before :P Im taking after pictures when it gets dark...
Btw I did mine Red to match my Gauges,Clock, etc
Fsu1dolfan 08-01-2005, 02:53 PM I want do blue but will they be dim, like the problem of the Hvac?????
toupy 08-01-2005, 03:19 PM nice DIY! seems complicated to me though but I like it!
Kaeon 08-01-2005, 03:59 PM I want do blue but will they be dim, like the problem of the Hvac?????
My Red look fine... I got my LED's for my gauges from www.mouser.com so my clock isnt dim or anything like others. So it should be fine...
unlimited77 08-02-2005, 05:25 AM COOl, man i wish i was better with electonical stuff, i am some what scared to touch this stuff....^_^
finger11 08-02-2005, 05:40 AM sick!
daewonder 08-02-2005, 05:45 AM cool mod and great writeup.
KINGxOFxSKA 08-02-2005, 05:57 AM nice! thx Kaeon... i'll be trying this sometime. but i dont recall mine even lighting up in the first place lol.
Fsu1dolfan 08-05-2005, 02:45 PM I want do blue but will they be dim, like the problem of the Hvac?????
My Red look fine... I got my LED's for my gauges from www.mouser.com so my clock isnt dim or anything like others. So it should be fine...
Hey i did mine in Blue and look great but i have a slight problem!!!
My passenger side window led stays on constantly now...even with the keys out of the ignition!! Not sure if this is happening to you or not. Not really a big deal since it draws very little power but just weird...any ideas why!!??
Also one step you left out that drove me nuts until i figured it out....... when you put everything back you driver side window led will flash letting you know that you need to reset the windows. Go half way down with the window and the go up and hold for a couple of seconds and then your one touch will be back and flashing will go away. Do the same for the passenger side!!
Looks AWESOME by the way...thanks again for the write up
Kaeon 08-05-2005, 03:21 PM Fsu1dolfan,
Mine don't stay on they go off with the car when I open the driver door. As for the reset I figured people would realize being you had to disconnect the controls but your right I will put it in.
TCAV8R 08-06-2005, 07:06 AM My stock ones stay on even when the key is out of the ignition. Thought it is supposed to be this way.
Nice DIY. Are your dash led's red too?
I want do blue but will they be dim, like the problem of the Hvac?????
My Red look fine... I got my LED's for my gauges from www.mouser.com so my clock isnt dim or anything like others. So it should be fine...
Can you specify which ones you used? That site has alot of stuff! Does this resolve the voltage issue that was a concern on the color changing thread?
Thanks!
Kaeon 08-07-2005, 11:06 PM gko wish I could I forgot the model number sorry :/
TCav, Yes they are all red

mandos 09-07-2005, 04:54 PM BTW, LED size for these is 1206
http://www.lc-led.com/Products/department/29
Any of the 1206's off there...got mine in about 5 days :)
itstdt 09-11-2005, 12:17 AM gonna do blue in my tC... thx
ChicagosFinest 09-13-2005, 08:13 AM tsk tsk tsk.. I finally have summond the guts to do LED swaps.. I'm gonna have my brother here walking me through everythin, because this will be my first time on somethin like this
If I am successfull I'll post pics on a new thread.. if I fail, I'll be looking to buy more..
Is it possible to fry anything when you do this? if so how clumsy would one have to be to screw it up?
Fsu1dolfan 09-13-2005, 04:02 PM Finally got some pics of my work

Same way... There is a DIY in the tech section..
AMMO_tC 04-20-2006, 01:24 AM just got mine done a few minutes ago. looks great! my car's interior is finally complete. thanks kaeon!!!
DonnyDarko 06-13-2006, 05:38 AM So these are the right leds for the mod?
http://www.lc-led.com/View/itemNumber/39
SquallLHeart 06-13-2006, 08:15 AM 1206 for doors... yes.
LEDMods_net 06-13-2006, 08:53 AM I noticed you used plcc LED's instead of 1206. Obviously they work, but the 1206 is a direct swap. If you are buying a bunch of led's for the gauges and hvac, then you can just throw in one of those in the doors to save some money.
tehloxely 06-14-2006, 07:27 PM Finally got some pics of my work

HU is my final step
Those temp control button leds are awesome. I flows with the blue. What was the led setup for that color scheme?
SquallLHeart 06-14-2006, 11:11 PM led setup?
you just replace the stock leds to whatever color you want...
plus the "engifineer fix" for the HVAC.
tehloxely 06-19-2006, 09:22 PM what's the engineer's fix?
SquallLHeart 06-19-2006, 09:26 PM ^^ http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=77876
the guy's sn is engifineer.
Jman007 01-31-2007, 09:22 PM what did you use too wick away the old soder
Disodium 05-06-2007, 04:34 AM So i finally did mine today, but on the drivers side i "flicked" with the soldering iron a little to hard on 2 of the LED's and broke the contact off the PCB itself  Now the only LED that works on it is the drivers side window swicth but all the switches themselves still work :relief: .
Anyone know of someone who wants part out a door panel? :silly:
also did the steering wheel, so now all i have left is the radio and HVAC, and i'm not gonna bother with those. Gotta save up some moneys and send those off to be done :P accepting donations
SquallLHeart 05-06-2007, 05:23 AM just wire something in to make the contact to fix the broken pad... that's about the only thing you can do...
otherwise the best way i've found to remove 1206 leds is to litterally flood the led out with solder until the led flows off and remove the excess solder afterwards.
effective and won't risk any damage to the pads... and a very useful technique if you ever think of doing the radio with its 0603 sized leds.
Disodium 05-06-2007, 05:29 AM i tried to put solder back on the PCB hoping it woud grab onto something on the layer below but no go, its just raw PCB there now where the pad was :(
SquallLHeart 05-06-2007, 05:36 AM how about the trace where the pad was connected to?
Disodium 05-06-2007, 05:41 AM stole these from the DIY thread
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/doorpanel_led_tc/17.JPG
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/doorpanel_led_tc/18.JPG
Was LED2 and LED3 i think, LED2 on the right side on the photo, dont remember on LED3
SquallLHeart 05-06-2007, 05:51 AM there are ways to salvage a ripped off pad by trying to get the electrical connection by other means.
the trace itself hopefully is still intact and/or there would be somewhere to get that power to the led.
Disodium 05-09-2007, 12:42 AM after being bored and some brainstorming i had an idea. Now i'm not electronics genious so let me know if this wont work.
if i get some small guage wire and solder it to the + of the worling LED and run that to the + of the busted ones would it short, work fine, or dim the working one since it would be stealing voltage? It probably depends on how they have the board set up but i have no clue :P
SquallLHeart 05-09-2007, 05:09 AM it wouldn't short unless that wire touched something else... however i would still try to salvage the original circuit trace.
you can try that method with that if you can get it connected.
SCIONOSIS 05-10-2007, 03:15 AM Great DIY but it's not worth it for just the window and lock switch
SquallLHeart 05-10-2007, 07:04 AM not worth what?
it takes me like 10 minutes to take them out of the car.. swap the leds and put them back in.
(granted yes... i've done so many and it's like seriously routine...)
(and btw, i don't remove the door panel... i just use a small flathead to gently pry up the back edge.. which then i use my fingers to yank the rest of it out)
but there's nothing really difficult about it (but then again that's relative too... :?)
so perhaps.. yes.. not worth it for just the lock and window switches... you gotta do the whole car! :silly:
SCIONOSIS 05-12-2007, 12:18 AM ^^^ Not only that, but I always thought the window and lock switches should illuminate as they are labeled. They outta illuminate big as well. Kinda like this.......WINDOW or LOCK rather than small illumination dots on the switches like this....... : :
If the DIY was done like how I prefer them to be, then it would be worth it.
Get my point. :D
Props for the work and for sharing the idea.
kiss_tc 09-06-2007, 10:14 PM are the guage and hvac LEDs the same as the steering wheel controls and door panels LEDs? I have leftovers from the guage and hvac... wondering if i can finsih the interior lighting...
SquallLHeart 09-06-2007, 10:36 PM gauges, hvac, and steering wheel use plccs
the door switches use 1206... (but you can squeeze a plcc on there)
kiss_tc 09-12-2007, 03:21 PM OK... I have recently been having some issues with my driver side switch to my pass side window shortly after i had my door panel led's changed... It rolls up and down just fine, just not automatically... i have to hold it. the auto function works on my driver side, and on the passenger side using its own switch... Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? I have tried resetting the windows already like you have to do when the battery is out... and no luck, it works like 1/100 times correctly. ANNOYING>>> Please help! And im not even positive it is related to the led swap, but i figure its worth a shot to see if anyone else came across this issue...
kiss_tc 09-18-2007, 10:51 PM OK, toyota has fixed my window issue. It works as it shoudl now. BUT the question is... could my LEDs that I put in have affected the functionality of the master switch? They said it could have been the reason, but they also said it could have been my alarm... But i think the master switch just went out at an inconvenient time... What do you guys think... do the LEDs again, or avoid changing them bc they could mess up my switch?
kiss_tc 09-21-2007, 02:48 PM anything? is this possible? im just nervous to re do my door panels if its going to break again...
ScionJim23 09-22-2007, 03:55 PM This is so Easy. It took me less then 10 minutes a door including taking it all apart and puting it back together. Fast install and looks way better. I used some extra blue PLCC2 LEDs I had left over from Gauge/HVAC/Radio swaps I've done for me and local people and It looks great. The PLCC2 fit perfect and are nice and bright. And the only way it it would affect you master window switch is if you are a bad soldering person. And anyways, it sounds like you just FORGOT TO RESET YOU WINDOWS after you did your original swap. Thats why the auto function did not work!!! You need to reset the windows. easy fix.
kiss_tc 09-22-2007, 09:57 PM i reset the windows several times. didnt fix it. dealer tested the switch and it was bad. got it replaced.. just worried to redo my leds again if itll happen again. but im glad u used the same leds as the guages cuz thats what i did... im redoing it... and hope my soldering work is done right this time...
SquallLHeart 09-23-2007, 02:11 AM always clean the board and area after you're done soldering.
zooduster 09-23-2007, 04:23 AM Good write up....ALWAYS have to reset the windows when done
ScionJim23 09-23-2007, 03:24 PM agreed with squall. make sure everything is clean off when your done so their are no extra small solder beeds that go stuck to something else on the board. This happens sometimes and can mae electronics go wacky.
tekstyle 09-30-2007, 06:18 AM how do you reset the window switch? my driver's rolled down but not up. i tried holding it up and down... it didnt budge.
updated: nevermind. took it apart again and realized that one of the lil white rods fell off. works now.
tC-N-TC 02-05-2008, 04:01 AM I just did this earlier today and I have to say that it was quite easy to do. The only thing to note is that the drivers side board with the 3 led's go with the beveled corner of the led upside down. On the other 2 boards the led's went in with the beveled corner of the led facing the bottom right corner of the led itself. The words LED 1 or LED 2 are right side up and run parallel to the beveled corner of the led on the lower right on the passenger boards. The words LED 1,2 & 3 are upside down on the drivers side board in relation to the lower right beveled edge of the led. I thought this odd that 2 of the 3 boards were the same while 1 was the opposite. Hence, I had to flip the led's on the drivers side door after putting them on the board in the same orientation as the passenger side boards as they didn't light up. Hope I didn't just confuse the crap out of anyone with this post.
SquallLHeart 02-05-2008, 04:58 AM uhhh
1206's have small dots to tell you what side the cathode is on the led.. and there's letter 'K' on the circuit board denoting that..
it's a bit easier than trying to remember up, down.. left.. right..
tC-N-TC 02-05-2008, 05:06 AM uhhh

Cool beans...thanks for the info and yes, that is much easier!
b52hDUNN 10-12-2008, 06:31 PM Just finished this mod. I used the blue plcc-2 from my hvac/ gauge mod. The blue is bright enough without any resistor changes.
alopez426 10-18-2008, 10:32 PM I am thinking of doing a swap to red led's all around, but the led's are small enough and would not want to screw it up with smaller things like the resistors, do you guys think would be bright enough? I would like it to be as bright as the stock color.
b52hDUNN 10-19-2008, 03:21 AM The red should will be bright!
trrocks03 11-13-2008, 04:12 PM I just did this mod this weekend. It looks fine with plain PLCC. I put blue for the windows and red for the locks. I will post pics if I ever remember to.
ultimatexpka 11-17-2008, 08:53 AM how do you know which direction the LED is supposed to point on each one of them? will having it the other way around not make it work?
b52hDUNN 11-17-2008, 01:00 PM Yes it will not work if installed backwards. Look for the direction of the arrow on the circuit board to the placement of the dent on the corner of the led.
jsingh 11-17-2008, 01:28 PM nice diy!!
ultimatexpka 11-17-2008, 05:13 PM Yes it will not work if installed backwards. Look for the direction of the arrow on the circuit board to the placement of the dent on the corner of the led.
There is no arrow on the circuit board thats why i dunno what direction im supposed to solder the LED
SquallLHeart 11-17-2008, 09:00 PM .. the letter 'K'..
ultimatexpka 11-17-2008, 11:07 PM .. the letter 'K'..
omg so the letter k is now a direction? so if the letter K was left i have to point the triangle of the led left and if the K was right i have to point the triangle of the right?
SquallLHeart 11-18-2008, 06:26 AM 'k' = cathode...
yes... it's a direction.
Aphex13 06-20-2009, 06:27 PM How many led's does this mad take? I have 4 left from my other stuff, but I think it takes 5 right?
