Check out the site

www.scionboost.com

In all aspects it seems legit, but I can't see how they can afford to do this. It was on the main Scion site for like 2 hours and then the link was taken off. Check it out!

"Rewards are available only to Scion customers who have purchased/leased a new 2005 xA, xB, or tC Scion model between August 2 and October 31, 2005, unless extended by Sponsor. Scion will verify that the customer has made the required purchase/lease at time of order. Any purchase/lease that is cancelled by the customer is not eligible for a reward under this program." -From Rules and Reg.

Let me know what you think

I can't believe this actually needs an explanation...it's called clearing out the '05s as the '06s are out now...

And CrimsonO2, I feel your pain...I got my RS in July too :tap:

"12. Scion will cover the cost of any sales taxes that may be due. The customer is solely responsible for determining and paying any income tax that may be due as a result of this program.

Yeah that $600 Sony DVD Dream system is nice except you have to report it. At least it's not like Oprah's G6 "Free Giveaway." Better to sell it once you obtain it.

Welcome to a Economics 101. If you haven't noticed in your 21 some-odd years on Earth (I presume most all of them not in a communistic/third-world nation?) the price of virtually all brand-brand-new products/services cost more than items that have been in stores/available for a while?

I talked ot Scion today with their online chat thing, and they said that the dealer tells them who bought what when. If you are really friendly with the guy you bought your car from, they may be able to do some tampering to get you a code. I bought mine 2 days before the Promo started. Kinda sucks.

I would have gotten the surround sound system, it's a sweet deal!!

Opps didn't word it correctly. Referring to the price difference you would have to report between the Sony giveaway unit vs. the G6.

What does this mean:
Fulfillment of BOOST reward is 7-10 days
Is that how long before you get it after submitting for reward? Since it takes 4-6 weeks to get the access code.

Your dealer can not do anything illegal to change the date the car was sold. Sales are reported daily and have to match the date on the paperwork.

During the 2004/2005 change over Scion added a FREE upgrade to the 6-CD sound system to all remaining 2005's in stock. This is much more creative as all the gifts are worth about $500 or more. It is as someone already said, a way to clear out the remaining inventory without compromising the Pure Pricing way of doing business.

I really don't believe this s***. Why do those of us that are loyal to the company get screwed like this. I didn't get the RS 1.0 cause it got sold while I was making a deal on it. Basically one salesman screwed another, to get the sale and I got crapped on in the end. Then I didn't get the 2004 CD upgrade because I ordered a camo that was supposed to be a 2004, but it came as one of the first 2005s to the dealership. Now this. I'm all about Scion, but this really ____es me off. I don't believe in waiting for that little extra bonus, to get a car I have such a desire for. If Scion is supposed to be so about their customers they should reward those that don't wait, not the cherry pickers. Now I'm not trying to offend anyone, because I know some people want the Scions, but have no way to get it when they want it (finacially not able.) Sorry, this subject is just like picking at a scab that won't heal. I've sent my feeling to Scion already. I know it won't change anything, but I think everyone who feels burned by this should also make their opinion heard to Scion.

If you contact Scion, then you've done the right thing. They need to hear our perspectives on both the good and the bad about the cars, the dealers, and the buying experience. I'm sure they appreciate your input. This rather than just walking to another brand next time you go to buy a car.
I'm not sure what the 'financing issue' you refer to is.

This is a message I just sent them

"I would like to express my opinion about your commitment to your customers and the general disappointment in the Scion community (see www.scionlife.com about Scion Boost anger). Many of us feel that your reward those who are hesitant about buying your cars and shun those who can't wait to buy the next model. Now I absolutely understand the business proposition of the Scion Boost program, but it shows a pure lack of dedication to those who bought your cars early and stayed loyal. You lose customers when they see this deal (probably more than you gain from it in sales), because people like me see that Scion is all about money and could care less about those who care. I would love to see either some special bonus to buying new cars on the market, or a reasonable response as to how you reward loyal customers.

Thank you for your time."

We will see what they say.

The end of the Scion memo has the reminder that dealers "are free to set their own pricing."

Does this mean that if you bought a Scion recently, like say July 29th ( :P ) that we could go back to the dealership and request the free upgrade to 6 disc?

Pls advise

08-05-2005, 07:04 PM
Well y'all, it's no picnic getting your free stuff either.

First of all I'm having to scramble to get my financing in place now that I know where the car is, since deciding to get an '05 from the '06. There are really very few '05s left! The xB is a very popular car!!!

I'm also having to make the trip out of town TWICE in order that I can SEE the car before coming back to my credit union, signing the papers and going back to get the car! I just don't like the idea of closing on a loan sight unseen.

Not to mention that I'm getting cruise control on it, which I didn't really want, so I'm paying $275 more than I wanted.

Not to mention that you will possibly have to pay taxes on your 'gift'.

So, yes, I get a free gift, but not without some pain.

However, I would be ____ed also if I missed out on the gift by a few days. But a few days could be the difference between complaining about no gift to complaining about no car.

milehibox
08-05-2005, 07:29 PM
I don't see it as being difficult to get the free gift for someone buying between August 2 and October 15th. Rules are rules and I just missed out by 3 days! :flame:

You just happened to have a vehicle that's out of state, and you have chosen to go for it. Not dissin' u, but it's your choice to go it that way. I can't say I would've done the same to get mine. Everyone's circumstances are different when trying to get a Scion--my first color choice was CAMO, but getting one was proving difficult. I ordered BOP instead and had it delivered in 2 weeks. VERY HAPPY with it, have gotten many "thumbs ups" on how cool it looks at night!

I only emailed my dealer to see what they can do. I'm not going to throw a tantrum if they don't agree to do the 6disc swap on my vehicle. I am very happy with the service I got during the transaction, and Elway has been great to work with the past year. They made sure my vehicle was ready to go when I showed up for the closing: I didn't have to wait for installs or anything.

Allison, I'll PM you when I hear back from Pete or Tim. So, it is what it is. :blah:

I think all 2005 Owners should stand and send emails to Scion...Maybe you will get something for free you never know. If you let your voice be heard we can accomplish something. We were the loyal customers who bought their cars and made them a reputable company when they first hit the states. I mean come on, big or small we all took that risk. And I think we should be rewarded for it. consider my email sent.

No doubt you are right on this - as far as the community/communication goes. Plus, the Chevy, Ford, Chrysler promo was HEAVILY advertised - as apposed to the very quiet way Scion promotes. I have to say this type of covert promoting is a bit anti-Scion-public-marketing. That is, it tends to go against the implied 'one price'. Especially if the promo is 'dealer contributed' like most incentive programs at the 'big three'. Dealer contributed just means the store has less room to work with as some of it is taken up in the incentive up front. If this current Scion promo is totally corporate based, then the 'one price' sort of stands up. Its just that it is 'one NEW price' so to speak :tap:

FYI, this is the response from Scion Customer Experience I received this morning. Have not heard from my dealership's regional, but won't hold it against my salesperson. They made my Scion buying experience fairly easy and very hassle-free.

If I get the 6disc, great! If not then I'll drop it. I think they should reward those people who bought August 1st nationwide, and I know of at least one SL'er in Denver :eyebrow:

Dear Mr. McCalla,

Thank you for bringing your issue to light, unfortunately you do not fall within the Scion Boost Reward parameters, hence are not eligible. I apologize for your concerns, and can understand your frustration. In regards to your first inquiry, this program was never advertised due to the fact that it is not a promotional offer nor is it an incentive program.

In regards to your 2nd inquiry, we are not aware of any such offer from the Denver Region as to upgrades to a 6-disc changer. That was a 05’ model year reward program from last year and is no longer valid. Again, I do apologize for your concerns, and hope that we retain your loyalty to the Scion family.

If you have any further inquires, please feel free to contact us at our National Headquarters at 1-866-707-2466, Monday through Friday 5AM - 6PM PST.

Sincerely,

The idea of the Boost program, was for it to be an incentive to help dealers sell the remaining '05 models. It was designed as model year-end clearance type deal, not to insult anyone.

Scion wanted to do a program like this as opposed to a rebate, because they felt like a rebate devalues the product (see Ford, GM, etc.) and would be in some ways contrary to the Pure Price philosophy. Just like a rebate, if you buy a car outside the program period, you are not eligible. Its nothing personal, that's just the way it works. This program started on Aug. 2 because that is when the new Toyota incentives went into effect. Just like if you bought a Toyota (or anything else with a rebate) in July and the rebate went up for August.

As far as the taxes, if you are in a high enough tax bracket for the amount to be noticeable, then you should be able to afford it. Even if you were in the 25% bracket, the reward mightcost you $150 in taxes. So you got $600 worth of stuff for $150!

The free 6-CD upgrade is a promotion from that particular independent distributor in the south, so it isn't availabe outside their area. Part of the reason for doing that, is that Scion has a severe shortage of the '05 version of the single disc system.

and the Bose sounddock boost reward would have been BUMP! no longer needing to buy the audiobahn head unit to plug in an ipod. but i have to be living on GUAM! ARGGGG (major frustration)

Another reason why the incentive as opposed to rebate:

Rebates devalue true...but the company sees a direct loss of whatever the amount of the rebate. i.e: 500 dollar rebate for goin with an 05 (scion loses out on 500 dollars)

Incentive: Digital Camcorder (retail price 599.00 approx. Scion is buying these from the manufacturer for 200.00 or LESS) so even though we value it highly around 600 bux, scion is only seeing it as a loss of around 200 bux.

I work in an retail sales shop, and the retail price of what i sell, is about 3 times what my boss pays for the stuff so scion is not losing out on as much money as if they offered a rebate as opposed to this Incentive. It is more of a win-win situation, we get a cool product worth (to us) a lot of money, and scion sells cars because of this reward.

The only thing i see, is do i really want one of these Electronics etc... i wouldn't have spent the money on any of these things, but it would be cool to get one.

What would have been cool for Scion to do...team up with some of the aftermarket/performance companies and offer those incentives... CF hoods, Body Kits, Subwoofers, Wheels, that sort of stuff.

but they did what they wanted to do. and its cool with me ... still ____ed offer isn't valid in GUAM!!

Just bought my 2nd XB last Friday and it is an 05 BCP, it qualifies me for the Boost Program which is cool ......... It is an incentive to clear out the remaining 2005 models ......

This new one is my daily driver, traded in a gas guzzling blazer which got me on a good day about 9 miles to the gallon, a little to expensive considering having to drive 150 miles a day to and from work ......

Great News about Scion Boost Promotional Items...

Living in guam made me illegible to have the items shipped here, but, they are willing to ship my items to an address that i have back there, even though i bought my car in Guam. (the whole idea of excluding Hawaii and the Territories from this deal, is taxes, import fees, and customs that they would have to pay.) so as long as the item is shipped to the continental US its all good in the hood!!

Bose Sound-Dock Here i come!!

Hey why is the 06 model left out of this promotion? I got left out from the gift card thing already since I already paid in full for my tC!

its probably to clear out the old stock.. instead of offering big rebates, they give you some free stuff..

I see this completely unfair especially the 50 dollar gift card promotions if you finiance the car. The people that paid in full gets nothing at all.

What sucks worse is when you lose the car in a move, and when you find it it has an expiration date thats already passed...

I just got my scionboost password yesterday and I selected the 30gb iPod Photo since i do alot of out town trips. I really cant see how this company makes any money? Unless they are just doing marketing for scion. I cant wait for this to come in.

Hmmm...I bought an 06 BCP tC and picked it up september 24th. When I got the car, instead of the single disc 06 head unit, the 05' 6 disc changer was installed..and I didn't order or pay for it. My sales woman said she wasn't sure why it wasn't the single dash but told me to enjoy the added bonus. Hearing that they are putting 6 disc changers in the remaining 05's for free...you think they thought my car was an 05?
