I had a question. I used to be in a car club in Austin TX. and we used to get discounts when we went to a certain performance shop. I was thinking about starting another one. How do I get a discount set up for the club?

Make arrangements with the shops or company and send them a proposal.
Most companies are more than happy to offer discounts if you refer your members to them.
It's also good to have a portfolio on the club so they can see that you are serious.

Hope that helps you out. Good luck.

you get a bunch of guys together, goto the place, show them that HEY look at us.. look at what we have to offer.. we hit shows.. we goto meets etc.

u have to prove to companies and shops that you are worthy of their handouts.

and a car club isn't just about discounts and hookups..

carclubs used to be formed by a few friends... just helping each other out. having a "groupie" to hang out wiht at a car show.

i always hear about people writing proposals to companies to get sponsorships.

adrian of scionevolution is always getting new sponsors and what now. hit him up for advice i guess. his sn on here is SCIONINLA

Oh, I know its not just about the discounts. I always liked the idea of my own carclub, crusing around posting up at a regular spot. It always felt like a mini car show when every one showed up and that was always great. The main reason i wanted to start a whole new one was because every car club i talked to in Austin always had a problem(beef) with another car club. There for just start one without anyproblems.

Well said Joey..you have to offer the company something in return such as advertising through members using the products, on your web page. Once people see what you can do,,then it all falls from there.

You gotta work hard at it and it takes GREAT and DEDICATED members to make this possible. We have been fortunate to have the greatest members in SE in my personal opinion and it's people like this that make it easy for companies to say."no problem..we know who _____ are...we are more than willing to help you out with discounts and sponsorships"

It takes a lot of work and you have to be out there to be noticed.
The harder you work for it the better success you will have.
Just don't stand around and expect to get hook ups just because you are part of this or that club or you are this or that....it takes work and a lot of follow up.

I'm in the process of trying to start up a local club in the area. I'll be working with vendors in from San Antonio to Austin and also some online. I should have some more info in a week or so. Check out my other thread. We need a club name. Also, these guys might require some advertising in exchange for the discount. Would anyone have a problem with that? I'll be planning a meet sometime very soon for everyone to get together and meet...
