Installing 6 1/2 speakers in xb doors
I am looking to upgrade my stock speakers, i would like to add 6 1/2's instead of the wimpy 5 1/4 that are already in there, anyone have suggestions on how to mod the metal door panel? pictures would be great!
um are you talking about your rear doors? I am assuming you are referring to your rear doors since 6.5 are in the front doors already. 5.25 are in the rear hatch area.
Best way and easiest way is to remove the plastic door panel. Bust out the saw and cut your diameter into the door frame. Create mounting rings from .5 or .75 inch MDF board. Drill holes to mount it to the metal door frame around the hole you just cut and mount your speaker.
Wires will have to be run then. Best way is to follow the wires already in place for the window controls. Hide them in the door sills.

MDF stands for Marine Density Fiber and is usually used to make sub woofer boxes since it's a strong material. Home Depot sells it and you can use it to decrease the space between the speaker and rolled down window that way your window won't damage your speaker.
