QUESTION: how many miles did you have on your xb when you first replace the front brakes? my xb has only 7,000 miles and looks like it's time to replace them. thats this sounds normal to you guys?

wow thats horrible if thats the case, my dad is a car nut and he replaces his own brakes, he tells me that the only time you needs to replace them is if they squeak all the time, even when you arent braking, he says there is some kind of thing that rubs your disc or whatever and tells you that you need new ones, i had a cavalier before my xb and i didnt replace my brakes until i got to 37,000 miles on it.

do you apply your brakes too much?, or do alot of sudden stops? that will wear them out quick.. tell us more!

spoke to my local scion dealer and they said that there is many people replacing the brakes between 4,000 and 6,000 . they also said that they have this cust that has 8,000 miles on his scion and already replace the front brakes twice.

That's so bogus. What's the deal with that.

There was another thread where brake pads were replaced
at 11,000 I think they said. 8,000 miles and replaced twice!!

I've just rolled 12,000 and mine don't even look half down yet.

I should pop my wheels off and double check that just to be sure.

That is BOGUS... I put 25k miles on my xB in about a year and I havent had to change my brakes. I drive like a mad man too! I'm about to change my front brakes since there is about 2-3mm left on the pads but still... thats after 25k miles. You should take off your wheels and check the pads for yourself.

7000 miles is crazy... you also have to think that the brake pads a ceramic and not semi metallic.. that means that they will wear faster than the sierra because gmc puts semi metallic pads on. but 7000 is crazy... maybe bad callipers??

I better not have to replace my brakes that early, im running almost 7000 miles on mine and my brakes seem ok, My xb does hesitate a little bit when i am going about 40, and i add a little gas from coasting, anyone have a solution to that? add an additive?

The qustion that hasnt been asked yet, is your car a manual or automatic transmition? With the automatic I can understand the brakes wearing out so quickly since you are not using your transmition to aid in slowing.

drive slower
i have 33,ooo+ miles and my front pads are about 40% left
have not checked the rear yet

unless you autocross or drag race on an extroidinarily short track
you need to improve your "brake conservation skillz"

I have a manual with 22k miles on it and my brakes are fine...even if you have auto it shouldnt be wearing out that bad...

Are you taking the dealerships word that you need new brakes or did you actually pull off the tires and check them yourself? I have almost 33,000 miles on mine and its automatic and I have not changed out my brakes yet. If you are unsure about how much pad you should have left without eyeballing it let me know. My company makes brakes and I can probably get you the specs on it.

If you are under 10,000 miles, I think you can have the pads replaced under warranty. I didn't replace my pads until about 40,000 and thats with 4-5 vegas trips and 3 socal trips from norcal.

Ok, my work car gets new pads every 3k miles, but it gets driven hard. My xB his hovering at 50k miles and I still have more than half of the OEM pad to go.

If you need new pads at 7k miles, its either poor pads, or someone is way too hard braking.

Not always the case. I had the Honda Element before this, and at 23,000 miles the brakes were still great said Carmax guy when I sold it to them.
However I got my brakes checked in June just under 5k on the xA and it's only got 4mm left on the front.
The Honda had more power and was heavier and I drive them the same... but this is my first car in Southern California. The traffic driving styles are different.

Riding on the brakes while accelerating? Some have complained that the brake pedal is too close to the accelerator. But I have an automatic, 33K miles, with plenty of front brake left. ALthough a dealer informed me on my 30K mile service that my rear brakes need some "servicing." Yeah, dealer rip off! I dont powerslide my xB.

I hate dealerships, they alwayz say everything needs servicing...i think they say that, then they dont do anything to the vehicle and just charge you for it anyway, them looking at something can be "servicing" the vehicle.
the dealer claims you gotta get your XB serviced every 5000 miles but it costs like 40 - 100 dollars for the maintnence everytime you go, and half the time you are paying for ____ you dont even need. dealer = jerks

^^^ I get my servicings there is it's still covered. I think these are pretty crappy brake pads for the city that I'm going to get mine redone this winter at the Firestone down the street that did our Altima.
My dealer is too far from the house anyway. I need a freaking driveway so I can just learn to do these things myself.
