Don't worry about the warranty; if you ever need work done by the dealer maybe you can remove the modded part..

I was told by putting wheels on the car voids the warranty. When I had my s10 on 18s that never voided the warranty, I just wondering is Toyota picky??

actually, LEGALLY you are protected by the Federal Consumer law states it's the warranteer's (Toyota) responsibility to show direct relation to a particular failed part and an added aftermarket part in order to void your warranty.

many ppl don't know this, but it's law...
and if it comes down to pushing, it's Toyota's legal duty to prove the failure was cuased by whatever part you have on there...
BUT.... (this is a strong "but")
each dealership handles each warranty on an individual basis.
and the district manager will oversee any discrepencies...
so often times they'll have a personal outlook that will override your rights..
and unless you have enough money to hire a team of lawyers & goe toe to toe w/ Toytoa Motor Corp, NA....
then you may get stiffed.

the law was instituted so ppl could use say a Fram oil filter on their toyota and toyota could not void their engine warranty, or the entire car's warranty for that matter.

it's there to protect the consumer, but often times the consumer doesn't have the money to fight the companies jugernaut of lawyers and legal teams.

so in the end...
no aftermarket part will void your warranty unless that parts failure is directly related to the manufactures product, but you may have to raise a fuss to get it taken care of, if the dealership stinks.

i was kind of kidding, but sam is right. if you do stuff that they can somehow relate to the problem, you're out of luck. the car was designed to provide trouble free service for the life of the car, and if something breaks during that warranty time, it should be considered extrememely unusual. if everyone puts 19s on their cars and suddently 85% of scions with tranny problems coming in have 19s, then they are going to put their foot down. but i'm sure if you are cool with the dealer and don't get too crazy with your mods, you will be fine. i had a modified computer, exhaust, pulleys, and boost controller on my subaru when i took it in for a transmission problem i had. but since i still had my stock wheels and tires, they warrantied it no problem. for that car, changing the wheels is a big issue because it puts so much strain on the tranny. probably not so for toyotas. anyway, that's just my personal experience.

the best thing to do if you're scared of voiding your warranty is to not do anything to your car. but that's no fun.

Im new here and just orderd my xB friday Im in Florida and I should get mine on Feb 3rd... Anyhow I think you could get around the tire and wheel thing simply because the dealer offers 18 and 19 inch TRD options on this vahical. As well as anything similar to the factory options, Cold air intake or exhaust similar to the one optiond at the dealer. Just my .02 though. :twisted:

whatever you replace gets voided. change radio, your electrical will most likely get voided, do suspension mods other than TRD (in my dealer anyway) your suspension part of the warranty gets voided, etc etc.
if a problem arises in the car and they can PROVE to you that is what caused the problem then they wont fix it for free and/or wont fix it at all depending on situation. Now the only thing you have to worry about is if your dealer will try to pull a fast one on you to make a quicker buck and get the tech working on it more hours

Talking to the people at Toyota, and they said that even if you add things yourself, that are offered by the dealer ( ie 18s, intakes, exhaust, etc. ) you may take the risk of voiding the warrenty.

imo, it all depends on how you approach the dealer with the problem. If you go in with a puck ___ attitude, you aint going to get squat! Go in playint it cool, and let them believe that you are all about Scion and Toyota, it may get you further.

umm so you're saying unless the aftermarket part that i installed causes any problem or failures to where i installed, it will not void my warranty?

if you are that concerned, keep all of your factory parts. if you have a problem, just reinstall them... or get the part and fix it yourself...

that didn't quite answer my question cuz i was hoping for a yes or no, that's correct or nope, that's wrong. but thanks though.
