Inexpensive permanent roof rack
Found this roof rack system in the latest JC Whitney catalog:
https://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/...&searchbtn.y=9
In case this link doesn't work, it's their part # WG183653T, 40"x50", with 5 roof slats, side rails, front/rear crossbars, in black powdercoated aluminum. The 50" length will put the front crossbar just behind my sunroof, so that should work out fine. The front crossbar is fixed in place, but the rear crossbar can be moved to several different positions. Once I get it, I'll take it to the place that installed my sunroof, and see what they'd charge to install this system, since it's a permanent mount.
At $102 plus shipping, seems like a good deal to me...

What do you plan on hauling with it or is it more for looks?
The reason I ask is it does not state what it is rated for,I got mine from proline and is rated at 75lbs. all I cary is a 8' fiberglass lader sometimes and it is starting to ripple the top.
Just be careful with what you get and good luck.

the only thing i really plan on hauling around, if at all, will be a couple of surfboards. My kids surf, and their boards are 8' and 6' long. We're using the roof rack on our minivan for now, but somewhere down the line, i see the xB getting pressed into service as the beach vehicle.
If the roof is too thin for this kind of application, I'll have to rethink that one. I was even considering trading in my xB on something like a used Nissan Frontier Crew Cab long-bed, which would handle the surfboards, wetsuits, and other assorted beach paraphanelia quite well. But, I'm having too much fun with my xB, and am looking to see if it can be rigged to carry the boards.
