For those with roof racks, have you done any exterior mods outside of changing up the wheels? I've got a BSP with Yakima racks right now with a bike mount, and some pads for my surf board. I want to do more to my exterior, other than the bB emblems, and hopefully the TE37's I pick up within the next week or two. I'd love to see pics of special headlights, tails, and custom grills that you guys have going on. Personally I wanted to throw on some angel eyes when I first got the car, but I thought that they might clash with the roof rack, that I can't remove because it's used almost daily. But if someone's pulled it off, please post pics because that would be great. Pics of anything done with the roof racks, even wheels would be nice.
Also if you got a BSP with white wheels, please post a pic because I'm trying to decide what color wheels to get. THANKS!

Last time I checked, Yakima's site stated the xB's roof weight limit was 165 lbs. The xA is 100 lbs...

The Yakima rails/basket I was looking at had a weight limit of ~165, so that's cool.

All the ones I've seen are $200+, so I've just accepted that I'll have to pay to get a nice set of rails and a basket (if I decide to go that route). I'm sold on the Yakima products. If you go to the Rack Attack website (http://www.rackattack.com/YakimaConfigurator/raYakimaIndex.asp) , they have a configurator that tells you what you need to buy based on the vehicle you have. Makes shopping EASY! :D

My BCP has white wheels but I went with a stripe along the bottom to bring the wheels into the paint. They would look hot on a BSP also.IMO

Here is where I got mine, it was $226 shipped. Shipping to my area was $37.
^Really good price right there. I coughed up about $220 for a used setup, with a bike component, and something for my surf boards. I got everything separately though, but got the surf pads new.
I finally decided on white wheels. I think I'm beyond satisfied. I think I'm gonna get Halos later on after i buy a strut bar and save for coils or swoop on springs for a drop. I don't like how high off the ground I am, but I don't want a bumpy ride either. I'm just worried that the halos will throw off how the car looks with the rack. Also gotta pick up some BBM vinyls for my tails.
Also... I'll post some pictures tomorrow of my box when its light out. I've got some headlights with s2000 projectors.

I don't like the looks of the removable ones, and the above pics of the TCM with the permanent racks looks really good. This rack from JCW is powdercoated aluminum, with the 5 slats for the roof, two side rails, and two cross braces, for $102 plus shipping.
Not bad, IMHO, for someone looking for a permanent rack.

Uh, yeah, that's why it would be a "permanent" rack...

your xB looks great. I think roof racks look awsome on xBs. Im actually looking around for a good one for mine. I bought the xB hoping that I could fit 2 bikes comfortably inside the car but man was I wrong. lol. I dont think halos would look bad because of the rack. Im not a big fan personally for the angel eyes but go for it man. also, what size TE-37s are those? I just got a set of Rota Grids that are TE-37 knock-offs in size 16x7. Im just wondering if the fitment will be similar to yours. Im guessing yours are 15s tho.

How exactly is the Yakima rack installed? Is it something you can take off and put back on really quick?

Thanks. As for the halos, after doing a lot of reading. I changed my mind lol. Not only am I concerned about the craftsman ship and lighting, but it seems like it's gonna be the next altezza tail. I'm on the waiting list for the Front Face Finishers instead :D and i'll get some tinted overlays for the front and back. The wheels are 15x7, but they're not flush with fenders which sucks. The guys who installed my car didn't mention any rubbing issues, but since you're running 16x7, I think you might need spacers because of the tires/wheels rubbing on the suspension.

spacers for the front and back or just the back? I was definitely planning on getting them for the back. do you know where I could get a good set of those?

I thought the topic was roof racks... anyway...
The Yakima racks are fairly simple to remove and put back on. They clamp into the door jams sort of and the towers rest on top.

^Not to sound like a prick, but I thought the post was about modding a car with a roof rack, because I wanted to bounce ideas with fellow SL'ers on what to do with my own. I think it's cool if someone wants to use the post for the same reason... He wants a roofrack, and is getting wheels like mine installed, and is looking for tips/info.

Does anybody know if there are any roof racks like these made specifically for the xB that have the rails screwed to the roof rather then clamped on? I know there are pics of them here, but I'm not sure of those are just generic ones or if they are specifically made for the xB. Thanks guys.

Woo hoo, just got the e-mail notification from JC Whitney that my roof rack that I ordered over a month ago is finally shipping out:
I'm going to take it to the shop that installed my sunroof, and have them install this roof rack. For now, the heaviest things I plan on putting on those cross rails are two surfboards. The kit comes with 5 roof slats, and I'll get those put on as well. If I remember, I'll take some "before and after" pics. I'm down in Baton Rouge right now, part of the military's effort to help FEMA with the hurricane relief efforts. But I'm hoping to be back in Norfolk by the end of the month, and get this rack installed (delivery date is Monday!).

Sorry to dredge up an old post, but I just found this great deal on a base Yakima set-up:

$183 with free shipping for the complete setup minus locking cores. I doubt you will find it any cheaper.

Hey...that's my scion in one of those previous photos (N DA BOX plate)...the rack is a Sportrek from Perrycraft. Really sturdy. I have added a yakima basketcase and I haul all kinds of stuff on top, from my upright bass to camping stuff.

Hey Nozerider
Yeah, that's why I didn't go for those removeable racks. If one can find the right permanent rack, it'll look like it came from the factory that way. Even though my car is out here in Virginia with me, when I do get back to California, it'll be perfect to haul the 8' and 7' boards my daughters use. They usually go out to some place close to Faria beach, which is pretty close to SB. The shop that installed my sunroof did the rack, and charged me $105 labor. If I had to do it over again, I would've made sure the long side rails were completely flat before I got them installed, since they were pre-curved. So they don't lie entirely flat along the whole section of the roof, but it's close enough for now.

If installed correctly they won't tear anything up. Not sure where you heard that.

The door seals do come in contact with the part that clamps around the door frame right?
If yes, then over time it will get torn.

In the posted pictures I can't see where it doesn't lie flat. Do you have a shot that shows it? I'd also like to know if it was installed by bolting it to the roof supports and how long it took. Thanks.

Finally took a few pics of my roof rack. Installed by D&R Automotive in Buffalo. The only other exterior mod I have is the AVS bug deflector in the front, I've got the Scion rims.

K3V, so far I like yours the best.
1. Where did you get them from?
2. How much did you pay for the rails?
3. How much did the install cost?
4. Any water leaks being in Buffalo, NY with all the snow?
Yes, it was a goal. GO STARS,
thanks

Hey tikithed,
I ordered the rails through a catalog at D&R. I know they told me what brand it was before I bought it but for the life of me now I can't remember.
The rails plus installation cost $250 all together, I never got a price for each individually since I just had them order and install it all at once.
They did a great job, I've had no sign of leakage since getting it put on. I've taken it through the car wash a few times (gotta get all that salt off you know) and it's seen a few snowfalls with no trouble at all. It looks like there is a rubber gasket around where the rails connect to the roof that will keep out any moisture.
Here's D&R's website: http://www.drautorestyle.com/ and their phone number is (716) 842-1626 - maybe you could call and ask what type of roof rack they have for a Scion xB. They said they would install a supplied rack but the one I got was the one they preferred to work with.
No goal, wide right, story of Buffalo...at least our AAA league Bisons can win a championship now and then :)
