JakeMafia 08-16-2005, 04:55 PM well you ususally just start with your low gear, like D1 then go up to D2 if you have it then drive, that way you can go to redline, or do a nuetral drop but i would not recomment that , you can blow your transmission its_ikon 08-16-2005, 08:50 PM depends on what racing you are doing, but the best bet is to just let the car shift itself especially if you are bracket racing. TXboxdriver 08-19-2005, 12:36 AM ^ that is very true, consistency is the greatest challenge A word on Bracket Drag Racing in an automatic Toyota My previous vehicle was a 98 Tacoma 2.4L automatic 2wd no limited slip, lowered 4"(f) 5"(r) not that low...... with ~75hp shot of N2O, intake, exhaust and 15 drag radials i consistently (1-1/2yrs) ran in the 15.0 bracket this trans fluid helped so much, almost as much as the Juice i could do maybe 3 runs in 3 hours when it would take about 3 seconds to fully engage 3rd gear (HOT HOT HOT) i want to recommend AMSOIL synthetic trans fluid after the fluid change i could literally race all day i am not a dealer, nor will i recommend one but this is a must Fairly aggresive driving in the already very hot xB gets the trans to noticeably slip add wheelspin and you can roast the clutch packs and/or bands inside (these are covered with friction material that other things grab onto to tranfer torque to the wheels....kinda like a regular clutch, but it is intentionally made to slip a little for smooth engagement) you can totally do this, just try to bulletproof your junk BEFORE you find it's weaknesses hunterUnknown 08-19-2005, 12:51 AM there is already a topic on this. its huge, and full of ignorance. bottom line, leave it in D and floor it. if you're going in a straight line, why bother shifting it yourself. eujin 08-25-2005, 08:25 AM ya, just mash that momo! tclikewhaa 09-01-2005, 06:58 AM brake lightly while gasing lightly. boom, great launch everytime tweetie 09-01-2005, 08:19 PM well neutral.. step on gas.. then throw it in D and go.. hahhaa it messes up your tranny though hunterUnknown 09-07-2005, 12:30 AM yeah i think it'd be better that you DONT do the neutral thing. thats just asking for trouble. plus our tires lose traction easy, so... rwf 10-05-2005, 09:41 AM the neutral thing sounds hot tho haha i wana try it... but dun wana mess up car.. THansenite 10-05-2005, 03:43 PM If you were planning on racing, you should have gotten a 5-speed. hunterUnknown 10-05-2005, 07:32 PM people need to lay off the "you should have gotten a 5spd" comments. it doesnt help. the ONLY time it applies is when someone is saying that shifting L23D somehow makes the car go faster. rwf 10-06-2005, 01:02 AM m... so does shifting L23D make the car go faster? just curious TheQuietThings 10-06-2005, 01:15 AM no it doesnt MightyHalo 10-06-2005, 01:39 AM I say close your eyes and make pretend sounds like your shifting a stick shift...and presto ! racing w/ automatic ! JoeBus 10-27-2005, 11:35 AM Wht do people buy autos then want to race it? hunterUnknown 10-27-2005, 05:41 PM people need to lay off the "you should have gotten a 5spd" comments. it doesnt help. the ONLY time it applies is when someone is saying that shifting L23D somehow makes the car go faster. ignitionr34 10-27-2005, 05:56 PM Wht do people buy autos then want to race it? yeah why do they?? well i know one of my friends wanted a 5 speed but parents would only let him get auto... thas one reason.. he wants to fix it up and race it but has to deal w/ what he has... so there is always a reason behind each person... kAhAkAi 11-27-2005, 09:34 AM Wht do people buy autos then want to race it? yeah why do they?? well i know one of my friends wanted a 5 speed but parents would only let him get auto... thas one reason.. he wants to fix it up and race it but has to deal w/ what he has... so there is always a reason behind each person... yeh thats my reason i have an auto, and it BLOWS...stupid parents and their "i don't know how to drive stick..so you're not getting one.." haha guess i can't complain because they did buy me the car, but as far as the racing with auto goes...for the launch just put it in D and brake and then gas up to 3k rpms and then once the flag is waved let go of the brake and leave it in D and floor it; the car will automatically shift at redline, hope this helps |
