My tC is approacing 10K, and I've exhausted all my free-bee oil changes from Toyota. Do you guys have any recommendations what I should put in. Brand/oil type etc.

What do you guys think of Mobil 1, or Castrol GTX etc.

Why are you out of your 3 freebies if you only have 10K on your car? Toyota recomends every 5K, I do every 4K, more often than that is overkill....but to answer your question when I'm done with my freebies I'll switch to amsoil synthetic to go with the TRD blower...amsoil is the shiznit, research it, best oil in the market, for rizzle my nizzle

Mobil 1 all the way. I am putting it in after work. I used my freebies up. I still recommend going to the dealer and getting the Toyota filters. They have been shown to be excellent filters.

You know what, you're right. I will be using my 3rd one next, I haven't exhausted them all. But with that in mind, I will be switching to synthetic very soon!

 hey, i use amsoil full synthetic. i think this is one of the best oil out in the market. it may cost more, but it is worth it. i using change my oil every 3500-4000 miles, but with amsoil, i am going on 7500 miles and the oil still looks good. amsoils states that their oil is good up to 25,000 miles, but recommends changing the oil filter at the recommended miles, which i change my every 5000 miles. AMSOIL IS GOOD STUFF MAN!!!

I keep hearing about Amsoil, I think i'll have to try it. Is it really that good. How do you guys compare it to Mobil 1, or Castrol GTX?

I use RedLine oil (www.redlineoil.com) for my car, truck and my dirtbikes...

i mostly use their 2 stroke premix for racing out in the desert and when i change my topend it leaves no carbon deposits or detonation. i imagine their tranny oil would be suited for high rev engines such as the tC.

if you can find redline, i would highly recommend trying it.

Amsoil is alright.

Before using Amsoil try Lucas Oil or Redline.

A lot of people like amsoil because you can get free oil by becoming a distributor. when you say "amsoil"... think Amway.

hey, dont get me wrong about amsoil. i like using it for my scion because i feel that it runs better with a stock motor. i also redline oil, but for my street performance car. i have a 98 honda prelude with a supercharger and redline oil works pretty good for it because of the high rev rpms!

OK, say I plan on doing some mods to my tC. Nothing crazy, just exhaust, CA intake etc. What would you recommend? For a stock tC engine, is Amsoil better than Redline? Is Redline any good to use? What is the best oil period for the tC in your opinions? Something that is great with a stock motor, as well as with a super/turbo charged motor? I really don't want to switch oils that much. How come nobody mentions Castrol GTX, or Mobil 1 that much? I thought those oils were supposed to be top of the line?

I use Amsoil. Its been around the longest.

I used to use Redline because they are somewhat local. I still have Redline in the Matrix tranny though.

Mobile 1 is what I'm going to use after using up the 3 free dealership changes. It's a great oil ( I even use it in my motorcycles) and can be bought in a variety of weights in a 5 gallon container at Walmart. Cheap

royal purple is good stuff, expensive as well. My friend use to work at Jiffy Lube so he hooked it up with 4 cases of 76 full synthetic with a handful of oil filters. its not mobile 1 but its free :silly:

Do any of you - no matter which oil is chosen - do a 'mid-term' filter change?
Say your going 5000 miles between full changes - do you change the filter at 2500 or 3000?

Never have, this is the first vehicle I have ever gone 5K intervals for an oil change.
However, that may not be such a bad idea.

Cheap oil & Fram filters....although I may see what my dealer will do for me if I buy a case of filters...first oil change was after the 1000 mile break-in...the rest will be at 2000 mile intervals.

$10 bux a pop, so I'm testing a theory - more often is MUCH better than expensive.

If you buy your cheap oil and filters at WalMart go one step further - save a few more pennies and purchase their brand of filter. I was buying Fram for all my cars when some Reatta guy with 'experience' and time on his hands talked me out of it. He said the cheaper store brand was far superior. That said, there is a qualifier -- he only studied the # for the Reatta, and WalMart contracts their brand products to a variety of manufacturers.

Oil and filter chage at the same time. Can't see a good reason to change the filter half way through. Plus you end up spending the xtra money for the filter and the oil you will need to add

Additional filtering "peace of mind" while going the full recommended interval between full changes...????
I'm not real comfortable with the Toyota 5000 mile between changes of petro oil.
The 'top-off' amount on the filter only change is minimal - maybe (?) one quart - probably not.
Wasn't there a day when Amsoil recommended changing the filter and topping off over and over again.
Told ya I can't make up my mind. I need the oil change ferry (not that there's anything wrong with that) to wave her magic wand with the answer.

Castrol GTX and Fram filter.
I've been thinking of switching to synthetic, but have never used it before. And since the car came with the old dynosaur juice, thats what I put in it.
