the AEM down here at the dealer is up over 375 bucks close to 400...

The Hot Lava AEM intake is an optional item offered in the RS1 package. You can get it, but it will cost extra money. THey are only going to give you so much for the 98o bucks you spend.

I like the colored intake but I dont want an AEM intake, but it is a good deal for others, that guy is making a killing on EBay!!!

FYI, YOU can definately do it yourself. it comes with very detailed instructions, and even if you take your time, it should only take about an hour. I did mine and went really slow cuz i didn't wanna mess anything up and it took about 45 mins.

also, i wouldn't get the orange one unless you have a rs1....heck even if you do have one, the chrome would look alot nicer!

The AEM intake comes with installation instructions.

One important note that was omitted from installation instructions that makes installation much easier is the removal of the battery.

I installed my own AEM intake. The filter sits right behind the fog light area. If you have fog lights, you may want to slip a small piece of foam rubber between the fog light and the filter element to eliminate friction and rattling noises coming from that area. Also, the VCV does not clip onto the extension as easily as it sounds in the instructions.

I am not an expert mechanic. From set up (finding my tools) to test drive, it took me about 2 hours. Most people are more savy with tools than I am.

The AEM incorporates a seemingly useless pipe loop before entering the engine. AEM had to follow Toyota specs when designing this part, but it seems to lack efficiency. A direct flow line (like Injen) just seems more logical.

Just so everyone knows, If you ordered a RS 1.0 and the AEM intake you have to specify that you want the orange one. They have different part #'s.

I believe that the AEM was designed that way for two reasons.

First, since it was a Toyota accessory, the AEM absolutely had to pass the CARB tests. Therefore, it was designed as much like the stock intake as possible.

Second, Toyota didn't want any problems with the MAF sensor, so the super-long and curvy AEM intake puts the filter as far from the sensor as possible.

Both of these considerations work against the AEM intake being an effective improvement. I don't believe that Toyota has ever released any official power numbers and there is probably a good reason for that. It's pretty much an appearance accessory, not a power mod.
