Hey,

Im lookin for a complete exhaust kit. and some headers to go with it for my 06 tc. only performance mods ive done is the weapon r intake. Ive searched and browsed the forum and the only full system i see is from CC. Im lookin for performance gains, while keeping my car smogable (CA resident). Ive read numerous post on the draxas, magnaflow, hks, aem, and greddy exhausts offered. im lookin for something that has a full kit (cat, muffler, and s-pipe), high build quality, and a reasonable price. Basicly, im looking for something with exceptional value that wont make my CEL go on. anyways, id appreciate any info ppl have.

btw, im also lookin for a pair of similar headers. I plan on having a local shop do the install of both.

as far as headers go you cant go wrong with alhpawerks or DC.

There arent many full systems out. The CC is the only one I would consider.

what is the difference between the aluminium and stainless steel exhausts? i realized that steel is more expensive and harder to bend then aluminium, but is there any practical reason that iwould want the stainless steel over the alumnium ones? Its just hard for me to justify paying 100+ if they are basicly the same product.

aftermarket headers will always throw a CEL. get anti-fouler or o2 sim to fix it. anti-fouler doesnt always work for some ppl and for the ones that do work, the CEL often comes back on after you put some mileage on. the only working o2 sim i know of is zpi's o2 sim. anti-fouler is cheap, no more then $20 ($4 if you make it yourself) and zpi's sim is $98

When it comes to exhaust you have 2 options if you want to stay CARB legal. CC's cat back exhaust (not their full exhaust) and Magnaflows catback. They both require a cut be made behind the second cat. This is obviously necessary in order for them to be true cat backs, and not simply axle backs (the axle section flange is the flange closest to the second cat). When it comes to headers you have no options. There are no CARB approved headers as they all eliminate the cat built into the exhaust manifold. Some, like one of Megan's, have a cat built into them, but without going through the CARB approval process, they wont get a CARB number. However, what you can actually get away may be different than what the law says on paper.

so, if i just went with CC's full exhaust w/ a high flow cat, then my car would remain smogable?

You'll probably pass the sniffer with a full race header and header back exhaust with no cats whatsoever (I cant say for sure, since no one has tried it yet). If you're only worried about emissions, and not CARB then you have a lot more options. Draxas, ZPI, CC, Alphawerks, and Strup among others all have full s-pipe and/or header back exhaust some out now some in the works. Monster Motor Works, Alphawerks, Strup, DC and Draxas have or will have headers available in near the future. Worse case, you through your factory exhaust manifold and s-pipe back on or put the factory mid-pipe an rear axle sections back on to pass the test, whichever is easier. They both have full three way cats in them.

If you are worried about CARB, then no you cannot go with the full system, even with a high flow cat since the Cat is not CARB approved. If you want to be absolutely sure you're within CARB guidelines, then in no way you can alter the factor cats or any other emissions equipment, that includes replacing them, unless its with a CARB approved part. But, if you're in Cali, I'm sure you know of any loopholes for all of the testing, if there are any. I’m strictly referring to by the book guidelines.
