View Full Version : stock xB steelies + trim ring + different "center cap&q
B3ND3R 08-20-2005, 04:16 AM Ran a search, not a big help.
There is a member on here who has the stock xB steel wheels and no hubcaps, but instead a chrome trim ring and a retro-style center cap "insert".
Gives the stock wheels a whole new spin. Anybody have a picture/link/source or know what the heck I am talking about?
kloquewerk 08-20-2005, 04:57 AM you mean these?

B3ND3R 08-20-2005, 05:02 AM LOL
Well, those are the trim rings. But what I was looking for was a chrome "center cap" (not really a center cap, but that's the best way i know how to describe it) that bolted to the stock steelies and gave the wheels a real retro flava'.
I know, I'm not describing this very well, and I can't find the pic. :(
kloquewerk 08-20-2005, 05:22 AM ohhhhhh, since you mentioned both i figured you were talking about the trim...sorry, can't help ya on the other one
B3ND3R 08-20-2005, 05:26 AM Thanks, anyway.
What I am thinking of is almost a dust cover.
Tomas 08-20-2005, 06:05 AM Are the ones you are thinking of domed or bullet covers that just cover the 'hub' of the wheel, inside the circle of lugnuts? If so, you are probably remembering the ones that were made from the aluminum cyclone fence post caps straight from Lowes, that fit fine and look amazingly decent. :)
I can't find the topic those were posted in right now, but the folks who did that used set screws to hold the caps on tightly.
Now I'm trying to remember who it was that wrote that up... *sigh*
Tomas 08-20-2005, 06:15 AM Ah-ha!!!
Found the topic I was looking for, but most of the pics have gone away. Here's one that's still there:

and the write-up is still there. It was Sid_xBicious (http://www.scionlife.com/?Sid_xBicious) who did it. (Amazing that I remembered who!)
:)
B3ND3R 08-20-2005, 11:26 PM Thanks!
That's almost it, but I seem to recall a slightly different one. Maybe in my old age I am misremembering.
Tomas 08-21-2005, 01:20 AM Yeah, there was another that Sid got the idea from - I think it was black OEM steel wheels with chrome rings and the hub things, bit I don't recall any more than that...
Of course there was another thread that went a different direction in looking at some of the different standard Toyota "hubs" that might fit and look decent...and are pretty much available for junkyards, even...

tat2dude25 01-04-2006, 04:08 AM I know exactly what they are talking about. I am in the process of dressing up the old steelies. You can somewhat find center caps off the net or maybe a junkyard from older Toyotas to fit them. I found I think that the Tercel wagon or 87-90 Celica SOME MODELS had center caps that would fit. Theese center caps though are hard to find and very expensive if you do. Like $10+ a piece.

JEFFIEBOY 05-15-2006, 06:04 PM I just got 15" "Racing" wheel covers for my RS 3.0. Nice clean look. Got them from Hubcapmike.com. Took them out for a test drive Sat., and the left front went AWOL. I emailed Mike on Mon. and told him my sob story. Ordered a replacement. I just got an email response from Mike telling me that he is shipping a replacement at NO CHARGE!!! That's customer service.

tat2dude25 05-15-2006, 10:44 PM I got centercaps off an 88 Tercel 4X4 wagon and also off an 88 Celica. I painted them and used both sets on my steelies with new lugs. Looked about as sharp as the steelies can get. I just bought some Scion Alloys and tires for $300 so I think i might be selling the centers.
