Default xB Door Vibration/Rattle..

For those of you with xBs that have had a door vibration or rattle coming primarily from the passenger door, I believe I have solved this problem. Through much experimenting I believe that the source of the vibration is the door itself.
Case in point, on the way to work this morning the rattle was doing its thing and I started pressing all over the door. Press on the window, stops- press on the speaker, stops-etc. Definitely not an internal rattle.

FYI- I have removed the door panel several times and used double side tape, foam and felt to try to silence this annoyance. No luck at all!!

I am going to have the dealer adjust the door striker and that should take care of it.
If not , I will surrender

Hope this helps.

My bandaid solutoin has been to stuff that passenger side compartment with lots of kleenix and towels to sorta push the door out so it doesnt have any space to flex.

the rattle from my front right side i found out this week while my wife did the driiving was between the right front door panel and the right side of the dashboard.

I stuck my forefinger into the gap and it stopped the rattle (this rattle occurred mainly between 25-45 mph and mainly on normal or rougher asphalt.

I will definately be taking my xB back in for a rattle in the passenger door.

I had the worst rattle today that I couldn't figure out but stupid me forgot about my toll pass stuck to the windshield so I'll need to find another way to mount it.

I had a rattle coming from the rear cargo area that was driving me nuts. After having my wife drive while I sat in the back, I thought it may have been the cover for the rear shock. Took it to the dealer, they told me it was the shock itself that was the cause! R/R under warranty - so far, so good.

Sorry, I know my remark was off-topic, but hey, maybe someone else may have a noise back there too.

Take off the door panels and stick on some eDead.
See my other posts. It makes the car quieter.

Default good post, dust!

dust_101, plz post some pictures of the door pillar, I got the same annoying ticking/tapping/rattling noise coming from the passenger side. I'm taking it to the dealership soon and would like to bring the print-out to show them what I was talking about.

I just had my box at the dealer last week for the rattle at the passenger door lock area. The tech said it was the actuator for the window that was touching the inside of the door panel (hence when you press on the door right below the lock itself, the rattle stops.) So after 3 hours, and a tech that got insane about the rattle as much as me, he was able to bend the actuator and wrap it in foam, thus stopping the rattle for good!

Now if I could only fix the glove box door rattle

Atomic:

Thanks for bumping this post. I bought my BSP about a month ago and have "the rattle" as well. Now I can take it back to the dealer armed with some ammo.

Thanks,

Stranger

I used foam tape on the edge where the top of the glove box door meets the dash. Not very attractive when you open it, but better than the constant noise.

My passenger door buzzes like a drum whenever the radio plays. I can't listen to any music without the door buzzing.

Took it to the dealer, and after 2 hours work they told me (this is for real): "If the noise bothers you, just don't use the radio." Some solution. It still buzzes as bad as ever.

I think the noise is actually the plastic sheet lining the door panel vibrating like a big drum. Near as I can tell, all plastic connectors are tight, and all screws are screwed down. I'm going to try lots of foam tape to hold the plastic down.

Default Door vibration rattle noises solved by dealer!

Pertaining to the posts about the Scion xB door vibrations in the lock area, and seatbelt area, I finally got my dealer to listen up and solve the problem. I phoned the dealer in New York mentioned in this posting, and they "padded the plastic piece in the seat belt retaining mechanism". After sharing the info with my dealer in Frankfort, KY, their techs made a third attempt to get rid of the noise. After putting foam on just about everything inside the passenger door itself during the first and second attempts, the noise still happened. On the third attempt, they foamed up the plastic piece inside the seat belt retaining mechanism (there is one piece of plastic in there) and the noise is gone completely. It had occurred mostly when the passenger window was lowered a few inches. That apparently created a cabin pressure that vibrated the mechanism. ALSO, equally important, they foamed the window regulator, and the door striker ( where the door actually latches to the body when closed). Those three areas took care of the problem and they suggest doing all three for these vibrations.

I'm taking the car back to have the driver's side done as well, as it has a similar noise coming directly from the seat belt mechanism. Also, the xB must come with poorly made regulators, because there is a huge difference in how the window rests when open between the driver and passenger sides now. The one that has been foamed is very steady, (like on a Camry) and the driver's side moves a lot when open less than half way.

Don't have any pictures, but tell your dealer what to do and MAKE THEM DO IT!! It is unacceptable to take your car to the dealer and get it back from a tech who says they "can't reproduce the noise". (That is why it took three visits to fix this!!)

As one posting put it, Toyota made the Scion to offer a well-made car at a decent price. Rattles and bad parts aren't well-made, so make them fix it. Soon, this problem will probably become a recall. It should be one.

Default Rattle/Tapping noise

Just got mine back from it's first trip to the dealer to address this issue, and they used the "Rattle Kit" from the '04 TSB, and said "No Noise" but viola there's still a noise... Bringing this up with CS Manager and Service Dept Manager tomorrow, maybe I'll get someone to actually look into the issue...

BUT if anyone has had success in this, let us know.... "Dealer did X and it was fixed" or something... need some ammo here...

Here goes my 2 cents and I hope it helps some of us. After days of trying to find the source of an annoying tapping noise coming from the passenger side dashboard on my ’06 xB, I finally discovered that it was the wiper blade hitting the windshield once I reached speeds of 10+ mi./hr.

It all started after a week long of icy/freezing weather here in OK. I guess the wiper blades are not as flexible anymore and the wind makes the wiper blades rattle against the windshield. Now that the outside temperature is back in the 60’s, I don’t hear the rattle as much but I should probably replace the blades with new ones to eliminate the noise completely.

Ive got one hell of an annoying rattle in the rear of my xB. Whenever i go over bumpy terrain it is a jolting rattle sound. I completely padded up the rear hatch cover and did nothing. Do you think it could be a problem with the shocks?

I had a mysterious rattle coming from the right rear area that i couldn't pinpoint for two weeks. My mistake was assuming it came from the inside when in fact it was the hanger bar of my Borla dual exhaust hitting the right tow hook ever so slightly. Problem was solved by covering the tip of the hanger bar in liquid electical tape.

Default Passenger front door rattle

An annoying creaking rattle started about with 500miles on my 2006 Box. My 12 year old Civic never rattled. By 1000miles it was driving me crazy and creaking all the time. When i pressed on the front passenger door near the latch area it was silenced.
I took the door inside skin off and isolated it to the latch area. I moved the door striker plate in just a hair and tightened up the latch mounting Torx screws. This fixed it completely at least in my case.
