Default What all is needed to lower your TC???

I want to lower my 06 TC and have decided to go with the TRD springs.

1. TRD Springs ($170)
Anyone know any place selling cheaper?

2. Install (~$100)
I would do it myself if I had a guide. Anyone know any guides? I searched.

3. Allignment? (~$100.00)
Is this neccessary? If I paid to have it installed, would the people allign it as well? Can I get it alligned at the dealership during one of my free oil changes?

4. ??? You tell me

Thanks in advance. Any help would be great.

LOL, dealers are funny beasties.

My conversation on Friday with my dealers parts and then service department went along the lines of:

me: Hi
dealer: hi
me: I'd like to find out how much it would cost to drop my TC I just brought from you.
dealer: hmmmm not sure let me see.
me: befreo you go, can I add that I have a set of Tein S springs that I'd like to use, but i want you guys to do it becuase you know TC's better than anyone.
dealer: OK, no, we can only install parts we supply, teh TRD springs have a 2 inche drop so they're the same as the Teins, and by the way we've never done this procedure to a TC ever.
me: *just for the hell of it* OK how much all in.

dealer: * drum roll....wait for it.....

dealer: Springs are $300, front would be $250 labor, rear would be $300 and the alignment would be $150, so all in all that would be...

me: ..I'm sorry did you just quote me almost $900 to lower my car???

dealer: Yes, a little less but you're near enough *totally serious*
me: You are joking yeah.
dealer: No, that's the book prices.
me: and you've never done this before.
dealer: no.
me: OK Bye

I did have a serios question for this thread.

Aside from the speed at which the shocks will deteriorate, tein-s I'm going to budget that I change the shocks within the next 12 months.

Aside from that, what else might I find myself arguing with the dealership about the warrenty?

i.e. if I do this, what else could go wrong that they will then blame on my installed springs.

I'd like to know, the likely issues I might have, and also the catastrophic issue, what is the worse thing my springs could be justifiably blamed for.

I need to know if there is a 50% chance that springs could cause $3000 worth of damage - for example.

Also, will i need to get the camber sorted with tein-s' I read somewhere that you did or you'd get vicious tire wear.

1. TRDSparks.com has them for $145
2. Here's Azure Pearl tc's guide so go ahead and do them yourself, it's not that hard.
3. a) Yes b) Yes, but they'll probably charge extra c) Yes, but there going to charge you for the alignment
4. The alignment shouldn't cost you anywhere near $100, unless your getting a lifetime alignment policy.

It's hard to tell how long your factory shocks will last once your lowered, but twelve months could be possible. The dealer is going to have a hard time blaming anything on your springs, worst case possibly CV joints. If 50% of spring caused problems I think 95% of the people wouldn't buy them.

If I were to go for a lower drop, say S-Tech Springs, would I need to replace other parts as well?

Wow, it's a pretty big difference between $800-1200 and $200.

like i said... if you can wait... its all about saving cash. ive only had my tc for a bit over a month now. no real mods yet... but i have about $700 saved for the tein ssp. i also plan on getting the EDFC. so tack on about another 400 for close to a grand total of 1600. then wheels come a bit after i get my tax return and then sway bars and suspension is DONE!!!

You really should get yourself a Top Strut bar (front) and perhaps a rear strut or sway bar also to help with stability.. When you lower a car it tends to become loose and strut bars bring the car tighter and aid in handling...

I got both of those plus TRD springs and my friend says my car drives like his Mini Cooper.
