I just ordered a whole crapload of meguiars cleaning, polishing, waxing, towels from their site and had a question regarding the waxing. I ordered the NXT Tech Wax, as well as the Deep Crystal Step 3 Caranuba wax. Would I benefit from putting on a layer of tech wax to the car, then taking it off and waiting some time(30min maybe), then putting on a coat of caranuba wax or would I just be wasting wax and $$$.

I'm sure you already knew that but if you didn't then get one. As far as the original question I think you might be wasting wax. . .but then again I am not a detailer.

from personal experience... the meguiars 3 step wax works amazing... there is no need for the nxt wax after that. only use the nxt wax if you dont feel like applying the whole 3 step process.

You don't need to wax it twice. Polish then wax.

According to Meguiars, layering isn't going to help you.

And if you did, you'd need to do the Tech Wax first.

You see, the way it works is it bonds with the paint and forms
a barrier. So if you waxed with a carnuba wax, or had ANY
impurities on the paint at all, the Tech Wax can't bond with
the paint and do it job!!

I thought it was clay then polish. It seems to make more sense that you'd clean the impurities off before swirling them around.

I have always used zymol and love it smell good too

Zaino is some pretty amazing wax. I use nothing else on my motorcycle; looks spectacular. I'll be using it on my Scion as well, but I only just got it and haven't had a chance to wax it yet.

Yea, the process to detailing is

1. Wash
2. Clay
(you dont even need to completely dry the car, and be sure to use a lot of detailer as lube)
3. Polish
4. Wax

If you're going to be putting on multiple layers of wax, NXT wax is a polymer cleaner wax. That should be the first wax you put on because anything you put on before it will just be taken off. It is also a polymer type wax which basically means it should last longer but not shine as much as a regular Carnuba wax. Meguiars doesnt say anything about layering but personally I dont think it will help much when it comes to their NXT wax.

I have layered the NXT paste wax as well ast the NXT liquid wax and didnt notice any difference in the lifetime of the wax or the quality of the finish.

I use Blackfire polymer wax and they say you can layer the wax (which I usually do). Most carnuba based waxes you can layer as well. One of the most popular ones is P-21S. That is some of the best carnuba wax out there and I can vouch for it. Its really expensive though but I would say its worth if for the best shine.

The NXT wax should be good just as paint protection but it doesnt last as long as it should. Polymer wax should be able to keep your car clean and protected for a couple of months but NXT's ability to prevent dust from building up isnt that great. If you try putting on NXT and then Carnuba theres probably a 50% chance of success but i'd say its worth a try.
