Default Anyone order LEATHER kit online and instlal themselves?

I would like to get leather installed in my XB. Locally they want $1,200. I am thinking about orering one of those kits off internet/ebay for about $700 installing myself. Has anyone done this and can they recommend where to order from and provide pics of how it turned out.

Here are two links:

it replaces the fabric on the seats. I did it myself and it wasn't too bad. you WILL cut your fingers up so don't plan on using acetone or mineral spirits anytime after, it BURNS!!! anyway, as long as you take your time you should be able to do it. the quality is very good. the biggest pain is getting the fabric off the rear seat since they spray glue the fabric down. what a pain.

If you get leather installed by local shop they usually order a Katzkin kit and put it in for you. Or you can order it and put it in yourself.

How hard is it to put the skins on yourself? I mean it cant be that hard but im sure its probably a bit tedious.

Anyone done it before? I think it would be a really good project for that price range and I like their options on the site.

Do you know if we can order from them as a individual or does it have to be a business?

Im really impressed with this and see myself getting them soon. I love leather seats and the cloth is driving me crazy. And wow my dog got into the xB one time and I still see dog hair everywhere whereas with leather it doesnt stick like glue to the seats.

A good question. One I've always wanted to know. I think most people get their installed at the dealer. I believe it's www.autoleathers.com for the katzkin stuff

I think there was someone that posted that it took him 8+ hours with a friends help. I think that if you are pretty mechanically inclined that you could do it.

Most shopws charge $1,200 for same kit installed and therefore usually charge about $500-$600 for labor so it comes out about the same income for them...but...

...I think I am just going to get a local upulstry (spelling) shop that normally doe snto do leather but cloth for very reasonable price to instlal it....I bet they woudl only charge half that amount....think about it...they have the tools and what shop woudl not take $200 for a days work...that is $25/hour.

I was quoted 1500.00 for leather by one of our friends and thats with the Scion logo stitching! And its NOT seat covers its actually upholstery! That also tax included.

Mine has carpet on the back side of the back seat.

Now this other way of doing it aftermarket the guy asked me if I wanted the carpet or leather all the way around.

Im debating on that bc I've never put my back seat down for anything. Don't know if I will ever have to or not.

They are not "seat covers" they are the exact same thing you are getting quoted. They are just pre-sewn leather. You still remove the old covering and then put these on. You are thinking of some cheezy seat covers but they are not.

I am just wondering how hard they are to put on and will I have to do any sewing to get them all put on right.
