Default tell me about your XB please

hey everybody, im new to the boards and im seriously thinking about getting a XB.
but befor i do, i would like to get some info about this car from actual owners.

has anybody have any problem(s) with their cars?
i heard these cars have a windshield issue (they tend to break easily anything that hits it) is this TRUE or FALSE in your experience?
and what is the #1 thing you HATE and LOVE about your XB?

i brought my xB in Feb. of '05 and no problems at all so far.

my #1 thing i love about the xB is how spacious (is that even a word? lol!) it is. the only thing i hate is that we have to drive very careful just to get 35mpg. but thats all good...

If any windshield is hit hard enough with a rock, it will crack/chip. This is especially true with xB's near vertical slope.

I have had my xB for 14 months and 11.5K miles and not a single engine/trans problem to reoport. I did have a fog light that fogged up- but my dealer took care of me....

In the 2 years that I have been on this board, I have heard of very little problems.

I would reccomend purchasing a clear bra for the front, and floor mats...

good luck

Hmm.. tell me about... Well, I've had my Xb since some time last year. No real problems to speak of. I do have a nice chip in the window, but, sh** happens sometimes.
It is Onyx Blue, Lewisville Tx, usually in need of a wash. I have a pair of sticks I use to drive with as I never had hand controls installed. I fold my wheelchair up an pull it over my head into and out of the car. I have just a few scars on the plastic post on the drivers side from accidently banging my chair on it. I have sticks to drive with because when I purchased the car, Scion did not offer handicap assistance. About 4 months later I did receive a letter in the mail informing me they were now providing assistance. I figured since I was already comfortable with the current setup, I would forgo spending a thousand bucks and having to wait on them to pay me back.
I sooo want cruise control installed. I did a couple mods that are listed on the boards. One for the ground wire kit, and also the diy air-filter.
I'm getting approx 30 mpg city, and did get 37mpg hwy by trying to keep it under 75.
I have multiple friends in excess of 6' and they are all impressed with how much room is available.
Just rambling at the moment..

For me, yes. I cannot really speak for others. I used to have an issue with the response the car gave when pressing on the gas. I read the arti on the Ground Wire kit and tried it out. The lag that was there is gone. I even get slightly better gas mileage. To me the engine also seems to idle smoother. Its a cheap mod you can do for around 20$.

IMO, the windshields aren't weak, they are just angled in a way that makes it easy to catch rocks and road debris. I've got at least 5 chips/cracks/stars on my window and it's still holding up. None of them have traveled. One I got when the car was 3 weeks old and its still the same 18 months later. I'm actually trying to get them to run now so I can get it replaced. But any car with a similar design has these issues.

No problems to speak of. It's still a great little car and I'm at 41K now...

I've had mine since Aug. '03 and the only problem I have is that I see stars when I'm on the road. I have a couple of chip stars on my windshield due to the placement of it. Other than that It's been nothing but all fun driving the box. I highly recommend that you should get one yourself. And oh....don't forget to get a clear bra if you decide to get a box....it's a must-have.

Well, I've had mine 17 months. It's a PW, MT with just over 27000 miles. Not one problem has occured. No windshield nicks or chips. No door dings. It's just a great car!

Two things about the design (large verticle painted area in the front and very large, nearly verticle windshield fairly low to the ground) make the xB more prone to noticible damage from road debris, but any vehicle with similar design elements would have the same problem.

Vanilla (my 'plain vanilla' xB) has been a reliable, fun, solid, predictable vehicle with excellent ergonomics and tremendous space for the small patch of ground she covers.

Bottom line is that I have recommended an xB to friends with needs in a vehicle similar to my own - I wouldn't do that if I were not comfortable with and confident in the vehicle.

Excellent price for what one gets.

Oh! Get a 'clear bra' (3M Paint Protection Film) on the front end before road damage to the paint starts. I have it on mine and the leading edge paint still looks fine. If you don't get SOMETHING to protect an xB's nose, you will likely be sorry...

#1 thing I love is being able to fill up every other week (instead of every week)
#1 thing I hate is cup holders are too inconvienient for short armed people like me...

It's a blast to drive, even the hubby who was dead set against me getting it a few months ago, changed his mind after he did a test drive. At 6'2", he's comfortable driving it, and does not bump his head getting into it. gotta luv it

I love my xb's. Haven't had any problems with the vehicles only with the dealership we bought one at. Other than that now problem with our windshields. We both have a few chips/dings from rocks hitting the shield...nothing major there. I recommend the xb!

1. I have 15,000 miles on the xB - NO PROBLEMS
2. Lots of bugs have met their demise. A few stones have tried - but all have failed
to take out the windshield. ( the small rear door windows sure feel as if the criminal element would have very little difficulty knocking them in)
3. Hate - the ride quality. Love - suffice it to say I'd make the same purchase today if I were again in the market.

Hope this helps

I've had mine since April and had to put in a windshield already OH WELL !!
I drive it everyday and am a traveling salesman LOVE IT!!!
It's got enough room for all my samples and me I'm not exactly small 6'11/2" 290lbs.
My mileage is good considering how I drive.
The only thing I dont like about it is my wife keeps trying to steal it from me she loves driving it ,and her car is a Dodge Magnum.........
As for the cruise control you can get a ROSTRA for about $149.00 which is what brand all the dealers install for $400 bucks it takes about 3 hrs to install...

I've had mine since Jan '05. I think the car is great for city driving to and from work daily. I do get 30 to 32MPG city and 38 to 40MPG highway. I purchased mine with leather and the power sunroof installed and then added cruise control (Rostra) and an armrest myself later. I bought a WADE bug/rock shield for the nose and it seems to help with the rocks and crap from hitting as much. I really like EVERYTHING about the Scion xB except the seats... I just bought my wife a Toyota Matrix to replace her gas DRINKIN' mini van and really wish the xB had the softer seats like the Matrix has.
