Default $500 down, car ordered - but a question..

Hello again!

August 6th I put in an order (an hour away in NYC) for a 2006 black xA and put down a $500 deposit.

A few days ago, the Scion dealer closer to me (actually, the same place where I leased my Echo) called and said they'd be getting in a Salsa Red '06 by Friday of this week - if I wanted it. This place also offeres free oil changes for the life of the car.

My question is, since I put down a $500 deposit - am I tied in to purchase the black xA? The slip the saleslady gave me, isnt very clear, and I dont want to call and say "Oh well, I might just get the xA elsewhere" being that if I dont like the way the salsa red looks in person - ill stick with the black.

My lease is up Sept. 1st, hopefully ONE of the cars will be here before then!

the deposit is non-binding in most cases, so you can get your refund. I would look at the red first of course. If you like it then go for it. If the other dealer with the black xA gives you a hard time then call up your credit card company and dispute the charge.

FYI a few years ago I leased a carolla. The first dealer I went to ran my credit after I filled out the TMCC credit app. . I went to a second dealer and got a better price, but TMCC who was financing the car, was upset at me for shopping around!!! And gave me a hard time! In the end I had to get a cosigner and got the car at the better price.

After I picked up my corolla the dealer with the higher price called my house and asked me if I was coming back in to buy a car. I said no I am not going to buy something new right now. The guy got ____y with me and said YEAH RIGHT ENJOY YOUR NEW COROLLA FROM SUNRISE TOYOTA!!! It was pretty funny.

This was 7 yrs ago, this time I had no problems with TMCC, but also I didn't do a credit app until I was ready to buy! Good luck

You should be able to get your deposit back with no problem. It sounds to me like you'd be better off getting it from the closer dealership anyways. Good luck.
