Default xB owners with young kids: can you fit 2 carseats on the ...

Can you fit 2 carseats on the "60" portion of the rear seat?

I'm aware that the "60" portion has 2 LATCH anchors (while the "40" portion of the rear seat only has 1 LATCH anchor). Just wondering if it's feasible to put both of my young kids' carseats on the "60" portion of the rear seat so I can keep the "40" portion folded down all the time to create more cargo room. We've got lots of strollers and crap to carry around, and the cargo room in the back with both back seats upright is less than great.

Or maybe we need to just buy a minivan or SUV...

all the seat belt at the rear are 3 point belts. the back of the rear seats also have anchors, so depending on the size of the carseat, it will fit.

yes you can fit 2 car seats in the rear seat; I had one rear-facing, one forward with still room in the middle for some toys/diaperbags. I had the Alpha Omega seats in mine

I know, but what I'm asking is... Can you fit 2 carseats on the "60" (i.e. "large") part of the back seat and leave the smaller "40" side folded flat all the time? Basically, one kid in the middle and one kid on the right side of the back seat with the left-most part (the "40" part) folded down all the time.

Bummer. That's currently how their carseats are configured in our car ('95 TBird), which does not have LATCH anchors (since it was made before 1997 or whenever they started making those mandatory). Their carseats are just winched down with the factory seatbelts, but apparently that's satifactory enough for the people that inspected my installation of them (they give a free carseat check every Monday at the local childrens' hospital).

ugggghhh....

I would guess no. We have 2 alpha-omega seats in our '01 Forester, and it takes up about 70% of the seat. I don't think the xB is any wider than a Forester on the inside.

The funny thing is, I test drove one awhile back, and since I left my car (and carseats) at the dealer while I had the xB for 24 hours, I could'nt check it out.

The kids were with their grandparents, so don't worry that I left them at the dealer too!

I would bet money that they would let you try it out.

The only way to know for sure is to stick 'em in........lol.

No, I don't think so. There is not enough room in the "60" portion for two car seats. We have had two car seats in the back seat as a whole, I don't think it would be possible to fit two in the "60"

Nope. Here's a pix to give you an idea.

I want to add that my kids look more comfortable in my xB than my wife's SUV.

as shown above, you can not fit two on the "60" portion. But, for future reference, you can fit 3 car seats snugly, and all buckled up using the whole bench seat.

Thanks for the pics! :D

Where do you put your strollers/bags/etc.? I'm now convinced I'd need the entire backseat, but cargo/storage room is worrying me... Roof rails with a basket carrier? Bungee the strollers to the roof rails and stuff the bags in one of those hard shell carriers?

They need to make a "xB XL" model that's about 2 feet longer so there's more cargo room behind the rear seats!
