-Hello and welcome to 2006-

Scion Evolution once again welcomes EVERYONE to come out and enjoy another Friday night gathering.

On the 2nd Friday of each month at about 8pm, we will be meeting that Krispy Creme Donuts located at the Tacoma Mall. On the 4th Friday of each month we will be meeting at the Dicks Drive-In located in Lake City, just off Lake City Way. For 2006 we thought it was important to actually move the meet closer to the city of Seattle! And Dicks being a Seattle landmark we decided to go with Lake City, because it typically has more parking and typically a little less busy.

EVERYONE is welcome to come and meet fellow Scion owners at this monthly gathering! It's always great to see new faces and meet fellow Scion owners.

Dick's map coming soon.

Starting in Sept SE will be hosting Seattle and Tacoma monthly meet and greets open to all Scion owners. These gatherings will be a chance for local Scion owners to get together once or twice a month at a regular location and time. Tentitively these meets will take place at 8pm on the Second Friday of each month in Tacoma and 8pm on the Fourth Friday of each month in Seattle.

Tacoma meets will be held next to the Krispy Kreme at the Tacoma Mall.

Yeah, we did it to bring out the best locations in everyone. It seems the pennisula and south areas are growing a bit faster than expected and we wanted to make it fair for them as well as the central and northern folks. We are still trying to do the greatest good for the greatest number so North Seattle/Bellevue/kirland and Tacoma seem to fit the bill

For the South end, are you thinking Tacoma, or was that just a general city to designate the south end? I ask because there is The Rock Wood Fire Pizza in Lakeland Hills. It's in South Auburn. Just throwing out a location. There are some good places in Puyallup and Tacoma as well.

NOW...

As far as pitching in ideas for places, here's a few to get you started for the north end meets:

Bellevue- TapHouse (Bellevue Galleria. Anyone of any age can go although the main feature is over 100 beers on tap. Food's a little pricey, but if it's meant to be a more informal get together with a couple beers, that would be a great place. Right in the middle of Bellevue too.) With as much as Bellevue is changing, there's gotta be some sweet spots for photos, including the funky art museum over there. (The xBs would look pretty sweet against it since it's so angular.

http://www.djc.com/special/design99/2.jpg

Kirkland- TGI Fridays at Park Place. (Everyone knows what this is, right? :P ) Great photo opps at Marina Park, Carillon Point (if it was a slow enough point and light enough to get a shoot at the main circle there) Also real close to photo opps nearby in Woodinville for Red Hook, Columbia Winery or Chateau Ste Michele

http://www.eveandersson.com/photos/usa/wa/seattle/ste-michele-outside-medium.jpg

Seattle/North Seattle- There's a Red Robin at the Northgate Mall, and although the quality of their food is an issue with me (I worked at Olive Garden for 3 years as a regional trainer) one of the best *LOOKING* OG's is at Northgate. (We'd be real close to Lake City Scion if we met here and could work that in somehow...)
http://www.wpastudio.com/images324216/324north75.jpg

Beth's Cafe is another great Seattle idea (although parking is crap) Not sure of any good photo opp's right by that area...

http://www.bethscafe.com/images/beths_logo.jpg

Further North...

Lynnwood- Alderwood Mall is totally redesigned. Lots more parking, a HUGE theater, there's a Claim Jumper over there now and if there's decent photo angles, group pics at that new convention center could turn out pretty sweet.

Hope someone gets a brainstorm from some of this... :)

Everyone's got food on the brain, but I know the potential cost of eating out has deterred some folks from showing up in the past. Just playing devil's advocate, here, but maybe there's somewhere we could meet for free or at least "food optional".

Well, realize that I did mention photo spots at each of the places I mentioned.

People could all grab some fast food or whatever and meet at Marina Park, or wherever the meet happens to be.

Some of the destinations would of course rely on good weather, but...

Or since you're referring to the potential cost of eating out... eat before the meet and when we all get together somewhere, order some combination of coffee, soda, milkshake, dessert or beer.

At MOST places, you wouldn't exceed $5 (even with tip)

The meeting location should be near food, but not at a resturant. This is a time to get together every month and just kick it. The location should be public and have high visability to people passing by that migiht have a Scion.

Right now I'm thinking North Gate or Alderwood. During Sittin Pretti I met several Scion owners from Everett that expressed interest in club activities.

Alderwood would be perfect, not too far for Seattle, Eastside, or Everett. Lots of parking and choices for photo, food etc...

All right folks, since the masses have spoken for a non-food type place to meet, and near some sort of pictre opporuntity, I've selcted for the Tacoma Area Meet and Greets the parking lot at Krispy Kreme in the Tacoma mall.

Near to Ruston way or the sticks for photo shoots, near mall food and Krispy Kreme, lots of parking, and lots and lots of attention getting exposure to passing cars and freeway traffic.

Lets try this for a month or two and see if it works, its easy off and on teh freeway and should, if nothing else, be a good launching point to go somewhere else if needed.

See you all in two weeks!

For the north end it sounds like Alderwood Mall will be a good place to try for a while. I'll go scope it out for a specific spot. It should work out similar to the Tacoma Mall.

InTheWASide

The best places for group parking at Alderwood are kind of unique. The best places to be noticed are up by the food court/ClaimJumper end (Alderwood calls it the "Terraces") the wall of parking out of the garage by Ruby's. Parking is difficult to get along there though...

Also, at the PF Changs/Nordstrom end if you park in the very back (YES, the back) across from Lynnwood High School, everyone going up and down that main drag can see them all lined up. (This applies to anywhere along that street from all the way down at the corner closest to Target, or all the way up at til the main entrance by Nordstrom)

If you park on the Nordstrom side out by the street you're also closer to "The Village" which is the outdoor part of Alderwood reminiscent of U-Village. Lots of areas to just sit outside if weather permits and hang out. If anyone does get hungry, besides the throng of restaurants all over the Lynnwood./Alderwood area there's also a World Wraps and Cold Stone Creamery in addition to the main food court that will have plenty of cheaper alternatives.

(I used to work at Alderwood... can you tell?)

Alright I took a drive up to the Mall tonight, after taking a few laps around the Mall, I've decided that we should meet in the far West parking lot, there have been a lot of changes to the Mall in the last couple years, so I'm not sure exactly what to call it, but it'd be the parking lot on the JCPenny end of the Mall, but out near 33rd Ave W.

Having a hard time figuring where you mean. Are you talking about over by the Food Court entrance ("The Terraces") where the Theater, Jamba Juice, Starbucks and Ruby's are easily visible outside? or the area more across the street from Billy McHales andRed Robin by the little strip mall with the military recruiting offices?

It's a good but bad idea to meet there...

Good:
*Lots of parking
*Near a street

Bad:
*Unless you mean the spot by the "Terraces" very few people shopping at the mall would see. Basically, good street visibility, but far from "mall traffic."

It is your meet so I won't step on any toes, but an area that I've always thought that would be good, is if you're looking directly at the main entrance to Macy's, go straight back and slightly off center if necessary. Very few people park out that way, or rather... there's more openings and you're right on top of the mall loop road. You're also super close to Macy's, the theater, food court, Claim Jumper, McGrath's Fish House and not too far from Sears and the... I believe it's a 24 Hour Fitness that would be directly across from the mall loop.

Just my thought of where would work from working there in the past (after the remodel and additions) but all should assume that the get together spot will be what Dave (the foth) said previously (near 33rd) is the meet location as I am not one of the meet organizers.

I'll do my best to make it, but no guarantees. I got a lot of stuff to do around home and a busier weekend than usual.

thefoth
09-22-2005, 09:31 PM
I'm talking about the area right next to 33rd in the middle between the military recruiting offices and the B of A, directly across the street from Red Robin and Billy Mchales. It's between the parking garages 33rd.

The reason is, I drove around that place 2-3 times at about 8pm. There were only two spots that weren't very busy, seems like only a few employees maybe parked out there. I figured we'd be able to park more cars together, have plenty of drive by visability to 33rd, and not be anywhere that would be a problem to the Mall people. The other spot in case anyone cares was over near the Shane Co.

InTheWASide
09-22-2005, 10:56 PM
Given those as the two choices, I would recommend the one by the BofA... it's MORE noticable... I forgot to factor it being a Friday and that place is a cluster*%#$ no matter how you look at it... Employees are "supposed to" park on the third floor of either parking garage, but... seriously now  How many do you think actually do it?

Shane Co. is located in the middle of BFE. If you want to have a meet no one will know about but all the people from here can find no prob... Guessing that's not the goal though

Again, I'll try to make it... Any idea on how many WILL be heading to this one?

Dave-
You had mentioned possibly changing some of the dates fr the northend meet because of holidays. Was this still the plan? Looks like they would fall on oct 28 (the Friday before Halloween), Nov 25 (day after Thanksgiving) and Dec 23 (2 days before Xmas)
Should we make it either the 1st and 3rd Fridays, or keep the 2nd for Tacoma and go the 3rd for Alderwood?

Wanna get the word out as soon as I can for potential members. I'm sure you do too.

I think the meeting spot we used at Alderwood Mall worked out nicely...if only it wasn't so cold. Perhaps for the winter months we should move the meets somewhere with an indoor option.

Secondly, for the Months of October, November and December, I think the 4th Friday meets should be moved to the 3rd Friday. The 2nd Friday meets can remain as they are.

October 14 - Tacoma Mall
October 21 - Alderwood Mall
November 11 - Tacoma Mall
November 18 - Alderwood Mall
December 9 - Tacoma Mall (Pre-Primo's meet up)
December 16 - Alderwood Mall

We'll See everyone Friday at the Krispy Kreme in Tacoma! And also, remember to bring not only your 28 dollars for SCAA registration but we'll be going over and getting out of the cold at 38th St. Pho

Big bowl is 5.75, little bowl is 5.05
Various Chinese and Vietnamese food $5-$8
Dessert drinks such as bubble tea and tri color - $2-$4

Let me tell you I can go in and get the little bowl of Pho and a coke and be happy and stuffed. If I'm feeling saucy, I add a small bowl of white rice for a dollar and I still spend less than 10 bucks for dinner...... GOOD stuff!

this meet is on the 16th right? If so, can we find a better place to meet up 'cause trying to have multiple people meet together on a fri night at the mall practically the week before christmas may be difficult to get all of us together... There has to be somewhere else so we don't have any issues with parking availabilities

the Krispy Kreme is usually empty and we only stay there for a little while before we head off to 38th Street Pho

whoops, just read you are a northerner disregard.....

is the north end meets big events? Are there a lot of people from the south end that come to the north end ones?

Tomas
12-08-2005, 05:03 AM
Those living close to the south meet point in Tacoma probably don't want a hundred mile or more round trip through Seattle or Bellevue to meet half way to Canada, just like the folks up there don't want to drive half way to Oregon to meet down here. :) There are possibly SOME die hards who go to both, but I really don't know.

That's why there are two meetpoints these days...

i'd say that theres an average of 6-7 cars that show up at either meet..... and yeah dustin and i have driven up to 2 of the north end meets... and dave and sean have driven to the south end meets....
as for being the week b4 xmas... when originally planning out the meet days it was 2 & 4th fridays of the month.. but because of thanksgiving and xmas they 4th friday meet was temporarliy moved back 1 week to avoid the holiday and people doing family things etc...

but again about 6-7 cars show up at each meet.. and pending whats goin on.. i try to make both

ScioXBox, if you were looking for us in Tacoma tonight, we weren't there... 2nd Friday of the month was the 10th... :(

Won't be a regular meet at the Tacoma Mall Krispy Kreme again until 13JAN2006...

If you were way up north, they shoulda been there tonight...

Ugg i saw you too, we were going opposite ways. The mall was busy and by the time I turned around. I missed you!!! Saw you head up the nordstroms parking garage..looped and missed you again...nice box by the way.

The only spot sort of empty was the lot by JC penneys and the road by Billy McHales or the top of the Norstrom garage.

I'll g oagain in the future, but we need a definite spot to meet..the general area sucks during busy christmas season!!

and unless something changed its always been parking away from the mall... parking along in the outer edge of the mall parking lot

The outer edge by the street across from Billy McHales was open, so was the top floor of the parking garage on the nordstroms side!!

I'll give it a whirl again in the future. Would be nice to know the next date and time at Alderwood. I know I know..look at the front page. Be better to have a post start the week before and plan it and get numbers and definite spot. I'd like to make one of these with some people there

I have a feeling I'm one of the few xA's that would show up. I need to steal...um get some ideas of future mods.

Hey all. This is Brad. Jessi's letting me borrow her account for this post...

Showed up with Chris from Scion/Lake City. We met over by Billy's because there was more parking. I had a SR xA not show up last minute,2 xBs that couldn't because they were out of town, 1 xB that didn't want to go out with all the ice in his neighborhood, 1 xB that had a bday (happy bday again Aaron!), 1 xB playing at a gig that night, 1 tC that never got back to me and another tC that couldn't make it.

Chris and I hung out in the Billy's/Ross parking lot where there was TONS of space directly across 33rd from the usual spot. Chatted a bit, came up with some ideas for Scikotics in 06 and whatnot. Looped through the regular area a couple times and all we saw was a silver xA that couldn't have had older drivers... Think they were in their 90's... YIKES! :P

To the new guys interested in the Alderwood meet Squishy and ScioXBox, we do have a "specific place/time" but with Christmas shopping crowds it was a bad idea to not change the location to somewhere less...shopping oriented. :P

January shouldn't be an issue, but I just wanted to clarify that we'll be back on the 4th Friday schedule right? Scikotics will also be holding a monthly meet starting in either January or February, probably closer to the middle of the week (Tues, Weds or Thurs) earlier in the month so we can get together more often. Gonna be a TON of great stuff going on in 2006! All are welcome to show, plenty of time at these future meets to discuss the rides with time set aside for club stuff...

Hope everyone has a great end to the holidays and 2005. 2006 is gonna be a great year!

(I may start using this board again in a VERY limited fashion. Just to get news out and organize meets and what not. Just a lot less of the chit-chatty stuff.)

Catch ya all later!

For anyone who might be concerned about the northend meet turning into essentially a downtown meet...

I am working on a time/date to keep a meet in the northend. As I understood it the original reason for going Tacoma and Lynnwood was that it includes both the north and the south end folks, and anyone in downtown or the eastside is roughly centrally located to either meet.

Now it's switched to being a central and a southend meet. If enough people show the desire to keep a meet in the northend, I'll set it up. That way the locations are a little more balanced for everyone.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN A NORTHEND MEET TO REMAIN (EVEN IF THE LOCATION CHANGES) PLEASE IM ME.

Thank you.

Yea I was wondering the same thing in why the north end meet got moved to Seattle. I mean I will drive down there, but doesn't seem fair for all the people who live up north to have to drive to Seattle and or Tacoma now to meet w/ any fellow scion owners. Might as well move it down to Portland so we can hang out w/ all of them too ha ha ha

thefoth

Actually Lake City is north of seattle (~10 miles from downtown), perhaps our perspectives on the geography of the region are different. To me Seattle is the North and Tacoma is the south. Central would be Renton-Federal Way. The Southend meet is held at the Tacoma Mall, which is on the south end of Tacoma. The northend meet will be held in Lake City on the northend of Seattle. Moving the meet closer to Everett would be like moving the southend meet closer to Olympia. Which in my opion is further from the greatest number of possible attendies.

Its probably worth mentioning that I do drive to Portland and California multiple times a year for meets as well.

Rudy to answer your question, all meets start at approx 8pm, but people will showup between 8-8:30 on average.

I'm just looking forward to meeting all the new faces at Dicks later this month. I think th Dicks idea stands a bit better just because its closer to a dealership, still in the way northend and lets face it, attendence wasn't exactly as high at Alderwood as it has been in Tacoma or Bremerton. I think a shake (no Dick's pun intended) is perfect for the new year. Besides, it was cold and unforgiving in the parking lot of that mall and Dicks is warm and inviting.

ratcityrain
01-06-2006, 01:10 AM
It's all good, I thought I just ask. I mean I will travel to almost anywhere where there is a show for me to attend. I have already done a lot of driving to show my car in the past year, hence why i have 24k miles on a car that's less then a year old.

Besides "Dick's is the place where the crew hangs out!!!!!"

See ya all there & tonight in bellevue if you are there!!!

Two things.

(1) Take the "Battle of the Clubs" elsewhere: They are OFF TOPIC in this thread.

(2) A "PM" is a Private Message, and as such, permission of the originator is actually required - by law (USC 17) - to publish the content of such, other than small portions as "fair use."

I have just had to dig in to this thread to remove off topic content.

I do NOT want to see it again.

Thank you.

(Thread tempororily locked while I clean up - will be unlocked again ASAP.)
