Default hand brake light on during acceleration

I already did a search on this and I got nothing, so if I missed it, someone let me know....

Lately I started to notice that when moving from a stop (red light, sign, etc) and hitting the accelerator, the red hand brake light comes on ("BRAKE"). Only for a few seconds, and maybe 75% of the time. Only during that acceleration. I talked to a friend of mine who works at parts at Toyota/Scion and said that it's probably got something to do with power. Usually, apparently if that light comes on with the battery indicator, then it means the alternator is gone.

Anyway, I'm gonna take it in anyway, but anyone have any ideas to possibly save the trip?

Check the brake fluid level. The light comes on when the fluid level goes down too far. When you accellerate, the fluid sloshes back and the sensor sucks air.

yeah, def sounds like the master cylinder. if it's low, don't just fill it, get your brakes checked. it comes on for a reason, and if it's low enough to come on at all, it's likely that your brakes need new pads. how many miles are on the car? how agressive are you with braking?

I had the same thing happen except mine stayed on. Check the brake fluid level. Mine actually looked normal until I took a closer look so wipe away any dirt and look close. Make sure the car is level too.

haha i just meant i thought of a loose cable as a possibility, but somehow i doubt the tc can be "sccelorationging" that fast, or that a couple steel cables can really be that loose

it's definitely the brake fluid level though.

Ok, on a serious note, if the fluid level is at half, there may be a leak somewhere. Check for wet hoses, puddles, or other signs of leaks. (Then check your car Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

haha nice :D

well, aside from the usual brake dust on my rims, there often is some kind of visible liquid that was once on there, that also caked on, and I've always attributed that to brake fluid. I should have guessed it had to come out of somewhere, right? I'm not sure if it's normal to leak out like that occasionally.

otherwise, no leaks or wet hoses

well my brake line is perfect. and fluid levels are at max.

for me it started about 35k miles and im now at 37k miles

started off as only turned on during hard accel in 1st.

then it went to 2nd.

then casual driving in 1st, then in 2nd, now in 3rd. and little in 4th.

haha i think its teh sensor. i havent taken it in to get it fixed but i dont relaly think its a problem.

switch to steel brake lines, prolly not even related but i suggest this to everyone, more precise controll and less chance of leaking brake lines

yeah with my next brake pad change im going to actually do goodridge SS lines and porterfield pads. 200 bucks well spent. so the system will get flushed anyway, but im going to go ahead and refill it today.
