I messed up my paint :nails: I debaged using dental floss after the car was sitting in a hundred degree sun. I purchased some bug tar remover that was safe for auto finishes. Used a little elbow grease and noticed fine swirl scratches and what appears to be a loss of the clearcoat where the emblems are. Do I have to take it in to dealer or can I still fix it with a clay bar and some wax :pray: I will post pics soon to show you the damage

clay bar may but i doubt it. use a precleaner wax. if that dont work, use a swirl/scratch remover then wax. if all else fails, take it to a professional detail shop or your dealer to have it buffed out.

wax will fill them in a little but you should get that area professionally polished then waxed--should remove your damage

What bug/tar remover did you use? What type of cloth were you using?

Some no name brand at wal-mart that stated it was safe for auto finishes as for the towels they were cloth baby diapers

go to an auto body supply store and buy a bottle of finess-it. its a mild abrasive polish that should take out any fine swirl/scratches from the clear. make sure you use 100% cotton or a synthetic towel to rub the marks out. but like badbasic said.. you might need to employ the help of a bodyshop if they are bad to buff out. most good shops would probly take care of it for nothing if they just need to drag the buffer over it on or two times.

i tried to buff it out myself with no success :loser: took it to mortiz body shop but they were saying they might have to repaint it since the sun burnt the scion logo and the xb logo into the paint what do you think :nails:

post up a close up pic if you can... I may be able to offer some more suggestioins once i see it.

take it to a detail shop...

it sounds like a little glazing and polishing will fix it up.
take this as a lesson to not press or rub hard on the paint.
