View Full Version : rust on brake disks lppro-xb 08-30-2005, 02:33 PM how do you get the rust stains off the brake disks? em-de-em 08-30-2005, 02:44 PM ummm... start your car - drive forward - apply your brakes! it happens to all cars and means nothing - it's what steel does... it's called flash - once your brakes are applied, it's gone in less than a second... Lonely_Raven 08-30-2005, 02:50 PM ^^^^ Roger that! 2k5_BOP_xB 08-30-2005, 03:11 PM ummm... start your car - drive forward - apply your brakes! it happens to all cars and means nothing - it's what steel does... it's called flash - once your brakes are applied, it's gone in less than a second... Need I say more? shanecrow99 08-30-2005, 03:15 PM Or you can swap out the stock rotor for a drilled/slotted zinc plated rotor. No more rust ever! Lonely_Raven 08-30-2005, 03:39 PM If it's plated though, what do you do when the plating wears through? You still have steel under that! bB626 08-30-2005, 04:23 PM rust on brakes is normal. nothing to worry about until it squeaks, that is the time to change the brakes... lppro-xb 08-31-2005, 01:42 AM thanks i saw the rust before i bought it and drove it so its gone now but thanks anyway bB2NER 08-31-2005, 02:07 AM He might be talking about the parts that don't get rubbed by the pads. For that either get a caliper paint kit or clean off the rust you don't want and use a good quality high heat paint on them. em-de-em 08-31-2005, 02:32 AM my explanation rocked! shanecrow99 09-11-2005, 12:44 PM Hey Raven. What I meant was that if you had the zinc plated rotors then the zinc would protect the rotors anywhere the pads DIDN'T touch (like near the hub). Of course where the pads do make contact then the dust would be knocked right off but anywhere else it would be protected. Does that make any sense? lol |
