Has this Scion group had a benefit thing like this before, i'm still new so i don't know. Who would be interested in participating in a benefit car wash for money to send to salvation army or something? I saw on the news that what they really need right now is prayer and money, since I dont pray i thought i might help out with the other need.

I'm thinking if we were able to do it we could try to hold it at a wal-mart parking lot or something and see if they could donate materials or something for us to do it. We could have it at a good central location like Tempe or something, or whever works best. We could notify news crews and radio stations about what we're doing and get a good turnout, not to say that there would be someting in it for us but it would be really good recognition for our Scion society as well.

I'm thinking either saturday or sunday we could do it. We're going ot need at least a certain amount of people to do it so if you're interested in helping you can add to my next post or call my cell at 602-318-5904.

This whole charity thing is cutting into my social time so how about we have it on a Tuesday.

No wait, actually how about Thursday. Forgot about my dentist appointment.

Seriously though, I will help no matter what day if I'm in town.

yeah i know changing the date back and forth was lame but i had already promised to go, i have a thing about keeping commitments. What is the minimum people people thing we should have to do this?

Malina / Bathing Suit / Benefit Car wash = good thing

We may be able to make it. Those poor people are going to need all the help they can get!!

I'm thinking now that this is going to need to be planned for next weekend, it might be too short notice to get something planned for this weekend. I expected more response on the idea. I'll talk to my sister who's in a sorority at ASU, if we can get them to help it will definetly get some attention off the streets. Not to be sexist but we could maybe see if Hooters would like to be involved, it's been proven that sex sells.

The company I work for, Harman Consumer Group notified the employees that they would match any donations by the employees. The $250 I had set aside for the CAI just went to them, the company match with a total of $500. I have been through two 7.0 earth quakes, a category three hurricane and numerous tropical storms. These people got there butts kicked 10 times worse, it is only going to get worse, trust me.

no date has been set yet. I was first thinking of doing it this weekend but not many people have posted on this thread so im hoping if we do it next weekend and give it another week we can get a good turnout. I'm going to talk to my company about matching donations along with my moms work that she is an office manager for. Who would be the best person in the Scion community to try and contact Scion dealers to see if they would like to participate in this as well? I think we really have a lot of potential to raise a lot of money, i just hope none of it goes to those looters in wal-mart.

I can understand people stealing food and maybe even batteries, but i saw a guy struggling to keep a large ATV powerwheel on top of a cart saying it was for his daughter. What is someone going to do with that when the city has no power, its like all these a$$holes that are stealing tv's. It really frustrates me to see how little respect and morals people can have in a time like this. There was even footage of cops in uniform stealing in wal-mart, and then tried to play it off that the news crew could be arrested as well for being inside the store cuz thats considered a looter. It's a sad world.

yeah, me and the family are down to help...I haven't really watched much news about it but from what you guys are saying its really bad...i kinda have a friend of a friend who works at a tv station, maybe i could get them to come out and get footage of us so we could get more people out there.

Toyota Companies Pledge
$5,000,000 to Hurricane Katrina Relief

09/01/2005 Torrance, CA

Toyota companies today announced a $5,000,000 contribution directed to disaster relief for victims of Hurricane Katrina, which struck a devastating blow to the US Gulf Coast on August 29.

"We're hopeful that aid may quickly reach those who fell victim to the torrential wind and rain," said Toyota Motor Sales USA President and COO Jim Press. "It's gratifying to be of some assistance during this difficult time."

Toyota companies have long supported the American Red Cross through associate-giving programs and disaster-related contributions.
$2 million of the $3 million directed to the American Red Cross was pledged by Toyota Motor Corporation of Japan, California-based Toyota Motor Sales USA and Toyota Financial Services; New York-based Toyota Motor North America; and Kentucky-based Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America, which includes 11 manufacturing plants in North America, with three more under construction.

Texas-based Friedkin Companies, the owner of Gulf States Toyota, a privately owned Toyota distributorship, contributed another $2 million to establish the Friedkin Disaster Relief Fund. This fund will aid Toyota and dealership employees and their families in the Gulf Sates region with both immediate and long-term needs resulting from Hurricane Katrina.

Southeast Toyota Distributors, a privately owned Toyota distributorship, its parent company JM Family Enterprises, and its associates pledged another $1,000,000 to the American Red Cross.

In addition to Toyota's contribution, Toyota Financial Services and Lexus Financial Services will assist finance and lease customers affected by Hurricane Katrina by offering a 90-day extension on payments, suspending credit bureau reporting on accounts impacted by the storm and temporarily suspending collection efforts on these accounts. Customers wishing to request assistance or discuss their accounts should call 1-800-874-8822.

Similarly, Lexus Pursuits VisaŽ Card customers will also receive an extension on payments and may call 1-866-877-4966 to seek a credit line increase or further assistance.

To stimulate further giving, employee contributions to the American Red Cross will be fully matched by Toyota Motor Sales USA, Toyota Financial Services, Toyota Motor North America, Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America and Toyota Technical Center. Additionally, employee contributions to the Salvation Army will be fully matched by Toyota Technical Center, while employee contributions to the Friedkin Disaster Relief Fund will be fully matched by Toyota Motor Sales and Toyota Financial Services.

Toyota established operations in the US in 1957 and currently operates eight US manufacturing plants, with two more under construction. There are over 1400 Toyota, Lexus and Scion dealerships located in 50 US states. Selling over 2 million vehicles in the US in 2004, Toyota has a direct US investment of over $13 billion and direct US employment of over 30,000. Together with its dealers and suppliers, Toyota is responsible for creating more than 200,000 US jobs.

Thank you all for buying a Scion. You made a good decision.

thats awesome on Toyotas part, it would be great if we could get local dealerships to participate as well.

we really need more of a response though for this to happen. Once we get more people to commit i'll start making phone calls to tv and radion stations and we can get a date set as well as a location.

I'll see if Camelback Scion will match whatever we raise at the wash and I suggest we approach ALL Scion dealers in town.

I'll also see if we can get some PSAs from radio for this. Let's set a date but leave a little time for planning and make it a huge hit.

Great idea MTcX!!

I agree on contacing all scion dealers. I don't want to set a date to have announced until we have more people that can do it otherwise it could fail. I'm hoping maybe next weekend could work if not the weekend after that for sure.

I still haven't heard anything back from my sister about the sorority but she said she would talk to the president and let me know. Once we get a date I'll contact Hooters to see if they would like to be involved. Singh Motorsports is one of our audio dealers and said that he would help with whatever he can and to just let him know so once we get more info we have that resource.

What we need now are ideas on where to hold it that could have shade to wash the vehicles in with a water supply?

I think and East vs West thing could be cool. Have a wash on each side of town and compete to see who can raise the most cash.

how's that sound?

the more the marrier, that could work out well too for people that want to donate but don't want to drive clear on the other side of town to do it. We still don't even have enough people for a single location let alone 2.

If I'm in town I'll be there. Toward the end of this month I'll be going on the first of three out-of-town equipment installation trips which usually require a couple days recovery (time differences can be nasty when added to 12-hour work days and 20 hours of traveling).

I like the East vs. West idea. I think we can get more people involved with this.

My company has a lot of our medical helicopters and a fixed wing out there rescuing people. One of our helicopters landed at the college campus and had to lift off immediately due to people rushing it. And yes we are being shot at which is very hard to swallow. I've already lost one paramedic in the past year, I don't know what I'll do if I lose any more of my crew. I can't believe some people.

All week I've been answering emails and phone calls trying to connect people with friends and loved ones who work for our oil and gas division on the gulf coast. At least our corporate office in LaFayette is okay although I am having trouble getting through to anyones land line or cell phone.

Some good news is our fixed wing transported lots of babies yesterday, that's really the only good thing I've heard.

n7 and I tried getting ahold of many places this morning and it wasn't easy. Ikea, home depot, and many other places have no soliciting so we can't do it there. I talked with Bryan of camelback scion and he's going ot check if we can have it there. I talked with the owner of MTX and he's going to match donations up to $1000! Once i find out more from Bryan i'll let everyone know. At this point it will be on Sunday the 11th.

MTcX
09-07-2005, 10:19 PM
I'm getting nothing but dead end phone numbers from the Red Cross when i tried getting someone from their chapter to be on site to accept donations. I received a decline on having the car wash at Camelback Scion and I can understand why, the lialbility is something that no big company is going to want. Because of the time of year it woud be hard to have a car wash without designated shade for drying so and idea that Bryan mentioned might be better. He said that someone is trying to put together a Dyno meet where people would get 3 runs for $45 and all proceeds would go to the Red Cross. It wouldnt be confined to Scion Life members so it could have a good turnout. I think this car wash is going to have to be nixed. I'll post once i hear back from Bryan with more info on the Dyno meet. If this is what ends up happening I'll discuss it again with the owner of my company and see if he'll still match donations.

I just got off the phone with the manager at F1 Racefactory about having the evnt there the day before the "Decade of Madness" event there. He was highly interested in helping us out but needs to check with someone and will then get back to me. The reason why it would be Saturday is because they are having a Halo competion or something there so 98 KUPD will be there so there will already be a good turnout. If anyone has any questions you can call me at 602-318-5904. If anyone has any supplies they think they might be able to bring could you please post them so i don't spend the gift card that I'm getting on getting it again. Well, I hope there are going to be more people interested in participating because I definately want to help. Thanks MTcX for working so hard on putting this together, I'm sure there will be enough of us to make this happen. If I saw correctly one of the dealerships is willing to match us up to $1,000 dollars. That is great! What an incentive to get out there and work hard for a good cause!!

LETS DO THIS!!!!!!

So.................... who will be there???

MTcX
09-12-2005, 03:53 AM
actually its not one of the dealerships that is going to be matching donations, its my work which is MTX Audio. When i brought it up to to the owner he had told me he had already donated a large amount of money but liked what i was doing and would match it up to $1000. I know other dealerships are already donating money on their own but the more people we can get to match donations the better. Telling a person that their $10 will equal $50 i think would make them want to contribute more.

I got permission from F1 so I'm going to contact Hooters tomorrow to see if they could have some employees come out to draw more attention. I talked to the markteting dept at my work and i believe they will be able to make banners and signs for us to use at the event instead of using posterboard.
