everyone who gets the hatch or sunroof rattle obviously post on the boards. i thought it would be good to see how many people dont have these problems. maybe we can get a good idea about this because i believe there are more people without the rattles.
lets see how the ratio turns out and i understand this cant be 100% accurate.

You should turn this into a poll to see how many DO have the problems, and how many DO NOT. I would bet there are more that DO have them. They seem all too common out here on the boards. Of course, the ones that have no problems usually don't go to boards like this, until they do have one.
Note: Mine had slight rattles in the hatch and sunroof at purchase, but have gotten worse. Still under 5000K so far, and noticing the "Oh Jesus" bar has a rattle now too! The roads here aren't that bad either, and I tend to go slower with the 18" wheels, and the low profile tires on them anyway.

 

Please note that majority of people with rattles get it over time. I didnt get rattles until 9000 miles. The car ran beautifully up until then. So even if you get a bunch of "no problems" post. That can change anytime. These cars have noise issues....period!

none here its been quiet since day one . ive test driven a few tc and none had any hatch or sunroof rattles. my fellow member scottc said he hasnt had any issues and he has had his longer than i had mine.

 

I'm still in the clear.

Mine developed them after they replaced my hatch glass and rear glass panel.

 

any idea what causes the rattling? and is it a problem that can be fixed?

 

There's a lot of speculation, but I'm not sure there's a definitive source of the problem, or a fix.

6 months, 16k miles.. no rattles anywhere

 

No problems here, but then again, my tC is still in pieces in a factory in Japan...sigh...

 

10500 miles and i got it at like 8k......gotta fix it one of these days....theres a very nice dyi on here somewhere on how to fix it....its very informative

 

It seems to me this cling-cling ting-ting kind of noise is on a frequency only can be heard by some of us. I took the toyota dealer manager out on the back road, the hatch is making constant noise, and he simply told me he can't hear nothing. I was so frustrated. And after they finally installed both bigger bumper stoppers and "stay asembly" (i assume they are the struts), the noise was reduced, but not completely eliminated. It is just annoying. I drove around a friend's Mazda 3, it got no noise.

 

06 1,200k NO RATTLES EVER.


(apart from the nut I dropped down the inside of the hatch cavity whilst screwing around with LEDs, and in all honesty even that doesn't rattle.

 

I have no rattles so far. Im only at 2k though.
