how about a hybrid

Default how about a hybrid

dear scion,
with gas prices being as expense as it is why not release a scion xB or xA hybrid to make the mpg better than than before. you can use the synergy drive you guys use in your hybrids for the scions

I've been thinking about this too. As long as it doesn't drive the price up too much. This is SCION, not a Toyota brand.

By using the hybrid drive line a few things would happen. The cargo area of car would go down. The weight of the car would go up. The cost of the car would go up. I would figure the whole hybrid driveline set up would be about $6k-$8k & the current drive line would only cost about $1k to put into a xA/xB. So the total cost of the car would be in the ball park of $19k-$21k or so. Still cheaper then most hybrids but not really worth it yet. Here is something to look at.

xA/xB getting some what bad milage of 30mpg. Miles driven in 1 year = 15,000 cost of gas = $3 a gallon. So in 1 year you would have spent $1500 on gas.

xA/xB hybrid getting say 45mpg. Miles driven in 1 year = 15,000, cost of gas = $3 a gallon. So in 1 year you would have spent $1000 on gas.

So using this figure it would take over 12 years of driving the hybrid version to really start seeing any savings compared to the normal one.

you know, based on the recently introduced daihatsu concepts to be unveiled in Frankfurt -- anything is possible. We could get a hybrid car and a RWD coupe at the same time! (JALOPNIK complete article)

The flashier prospect is its HVS, a lightweight sports car with a hybrid powertrain that combines the aforementioned 1.5-liter engine with a rear-mounted electric motor that drives the left and right wheels separately. The system, Daihatsu claims, boosts performance into the 2.0-liter range while offering the fuel economy of a one-liter, the separate-wheel drive system increasing stability during high-speed cornering. We assume Toyota plans to bring Daihatsu out from behind the curtain (following a halfhearted run at the US market), increasing its worldwide profile as its green/economy-minded brand.

Now that little hybrid sport car would be something sweet. I would just hate to see the cost on that thing.

The pic on the left will probably become a hybrid Toyota RAV4 in the future.

Perhaps the one on the right will become Scion to compete with the MX-5 and Solstice, pertaining that the Solstice will sell decently next year.

Hybrid technology is too expensive for a Scion at this point.

I'd love to see a diesel Scion though and Toyota already has a turbodiesel that works with this drivetrain, but alas Americans are so diesel ignorant it will never happen.
