i have looked all over the forms on this but i can't find anything what happend to all the RWD cars. you don't see RWD cars unless its $25000+, and anything under $20,000 is FWD its not that i hat FWD cars it just it rather have a RWD car. and yes i know there is really no big diference driving wise between RWD and FWD cars

you know, i wish a cheap RWD car will come back ('89-'96 Nissan 240SX, '84-'87 Toyota Corolla GT-S, etc)...

if they actually have cheap RWD cars on sale, a lot of people will be lined up to get one. just to "drift" around it... catch my drift?

Well these are somewhat affordable and fun:

V6 Mustangs start at 19,835 with 210 hp / 240 torque
A new Miata starts at 20,995 with 170 hp / 140 torque

Both are also extremly fun to drive, especially for the price.

Another reason might be the packaging....

FWD is probably more practical as well; less hazardous in bad weather conditions.

IMO, it's a combo of $$ and safety, but mostly $$. It's cheaper to build a FWD car. Most of the mechanicals are on one end of the car, don't have to design for a driveshaft and an exhaust as well as the transverse mounting of the FWD engine requires less space in front of the firewall. If you go into a corner too fast, the understeer you get in a FWD is easier to handle than the fishtailing of a RWD. Also, it wasn't uncommon for u-joints to go out and release the driveshaft. If it was the rear one, it wasn't that bad, you'd just drag your driveshaft until you stopped. But if the front one goes, look out! A friend's truck lost one and it tore the rearend out of the car and almost tore the bed off. The front of that shaft caught a seam in the road and BAM!

The carmakers are trying to balance cost, reliability, and safety to make cars that do their basic job. If you want nice extras, you've got to pay for it. The vast majority of people don't want it or care about it and definitely don't want to pay more...

When I started driving practically everything was RWD and V8. It was the Japanese cars that changed the landscape here.

A stripped out V8 Mustang may be close to 25k.
Pontiac Solstice is similar to the Miata.

just buy a nice used rwd car makes it simpler and cheaper :wink:

You can thank the government for the lack of rear wheel drives. Back in the 70's with all the fuel shortage crap and fuel emissions, the automakers were forced to start making lighter and cleaner vehicles and after the mid 80's they were pretty much gone. Chrysler is trying to bring them back but they will never be like they were.

i <3 RWD. also know as Right Wheel Drive versus FWD which imo is Wrong Wheel Drive.


basically people can't drive and it's easier to crash a rwd car in inexperienced hands versus a fwd car in the same persons hands.

s13 240sx coupe is next on my plate. add teh silvia front end, and the 97-98 170hp ka motor versus the stock 150hp ka motor and i'm set.

i miss all my old rwd cars. this box is the frist wrong wheel drive i've owned. it ain't bad but it ain't great either......

Why? Unless you already have a KA motor ready to go, you'll see a lot better gains from an SR20 for the money.

um sr20 is completely played out and 100% illegal.....
