View Full Version : What would make the tc a disappointment to you?
san_shou_fan 03-25-2004, 06:16 AM Just curious on what people think would make the Scion tC a disappointment in their eyes? Personally, I think if there wasnt a 15-16 k base price, as that defeats the whole purpose of the brand (cheap affordable, reliable cars), and if the driving sensation/fun factor was that of a toyota. Not to say toyota doesnt make a good driving/riding car, but that whole numb driving feel would defeat the purpose of the scion.
fearturtle44 03-25-2004, 12:59 PM Hard to tell as most people have not seen the tC unless you have been lucky enough to see one at a car show. But from what I have read, for the price, this car is going to be fantastic. I did have some hestitation on the looks/weight of the all glass top as I have never seen a car like this before.

ahurdl01 03-25-2004, 01:08 PM i would agree, a base price of anything higher than 15-16 would be too much. You gotta be able to the super charger on it for less than 20.
Tamago 03-25-2004, 01:32 PM what would disappoint me would be poor aftermarket support.
if the tC does not grab as much attention, we could see years before suspension/performance parts will be available, something that would really kill it for me.
i hope the 2.4 camry engine is easily boostable too !
it'd be really nice if the tC had maybe a 20K model with toyota's 3SGTE in it :D now THAT would really work well for me
its_ikon 03-25-2004, 07:37 PM disappointment will be a ride like the xA and xB. i hope the ride is smoother.
RyaN21 03-25-2004, 07:48 PM disappointment would be the performance...this car needs to compete well with other under 20K cars...were all hoping this trd s/c will give it an edge
as for the price the tC will be well worth the cost...my father works for toyota and is hearing it should be around 18K fully loaded (excluding s/c)
dinkjs 03-25-2004, 08:16 PM disappointment will be when stupid idiots get ahold of it and do stupid idiot stuff to it (RICE)
djimpak 03-25-2004, 10:04 PM disappointment will be when stupid idiots get ahold of it and do stupid idiot stuff to it (RICE)
ditto! i hate that.
Rousterfar 03-25-2004, 11:22 PM If it costs any more then 17k with an auto.
couper2 03-26-2004, 01:56 AM ...
My dealer was telling me it'll be right at 20k with the s/c.
If that's base + sc
hatchbox 03-26-2004, 02:09 AM If I think of it as being a scion, then there would be lots of things about the tC i would consider as being inconsistent with the rest of the scion line. But if that scion badge comes off and a toyota badge is slapped on, then i would think it is a great toyota offering to compete with the civic coupe.
It's hard to describe the feeling but the tC is just so not a Scion at all, if ya know what i mean

isnt the Scion xA and xB, Toyota Ist and bB in Japan? isnt the reason why toyota brought the Ist & bB to the states and named it Scion xA & xB so it would target the younger age group for being affordable, quality cars? i see nothing wrong with the tC being a Scion. its just my opinion though. correct me if im wrong.
san_shou_fan 03-26-2004, 04:42 AM I personally would feel anymore than 16.5 k for the scion with auto would be a total disappointment... Because it currently stands the xa and xb are within each others pricepoint (they overlap if im not mistaken) so I think the tc needs to stay close to these two price points. I think the reason why its not exactly a good idea to price it too expensive is the nameplate of Scion is pretty new, even though we know that its essentially a toyota, I wonder how many average americans know that... The reason I say this is because I'm sure a lot of people will say only for like 2 k more I can just get an Acura RSX or Toyota Celica just because of the nameplate. That and being a college student myself (20 yrs old) I'm pretty sure I am in scion's demographic and anymore than that about 16k I'll be looking into used cars. But Im crossing my fingers right now cause the SCION TC IS HOT! Having ricers would suck too that whole fast and furious thing is too much... some nice simple body lips would be great as the tc has some simple clean lines....
Rousterfar 03-26-2004, 02:32 PM Some of you guys forget that every couple thousand cheaper is a big difference for a car payment. A 16k to 16.5k car may not seem that much less then another car that is 17.5k to 18.5k, but when you pay that out over 4 to 5 years it adds up. Plus that is another couple grand you can save for other things.
subcode 04-01-2004, 02:49 AM nothing at all...I love the fact that my xa will be more rare and doper than any tC or xB...the xA will always be the underdog and the TC will be the flagship Scion...so be it..I can already see the commercials.....free runners chasing the B and A and then getting practically run over by the turbo/supercharged TC... :D
tC4me 04-01-2004, 03:08 AM I'll be disappointed if I can't reach the peddels!
Actually if I see too many of them on the road. But also if it doesnt take turns better than my corolla, which it should, but if it doesn't...I'll be ____ed.
Also if the seat bolstering option sucks at holding my butt from sliding around.
onemorescion 04-01-2004, 05:59 AM From what i've been reading on reviews and stuff, i can't really think of any disappointments, but, I haven't seen the car yet either. I will be getting my first look at one in a couple weeks at the NY auto show.
As said before, I just hope that this doesn't turn into a civic thing, where everyone buys one and puts cheap, fake, ugly parts on them just for show.
Either way, I still plan on getting one right now.
Djuan 04-01-2004, 06:38 AM it would be a disappointment if the huge fingerprint decal doesnt fit...

djimpak 04-01-2004, 10:28 PM i'll be dissappointed if my parents decides to give me a civic that cost more than the tC.
tC_Junkie 04-02-2004, 03:07 AM a lot of things may suck.....price obviously....rice obviously....the fact that everyone wants one.....so it might end up being common...but you have to remember scion is a company that makes its money off of after market parts. the prices are cheap because most customers spend at least 1100 on mods. instead on focusing on the things that might hinder its stance with people keep in mind the scion is exactly what a sleeper car is meant to be. the xa and xb have gotten so many options for mods i think the tc will fall into place. one bad thing is that scion reps have already stated that the tc is meant to reach a different demographic. which might affect the price...
KAuss 04-02-2004, 07:38 AM Price isn't bad... Seriously we've gone thorugh this already :D It's 17K... Just about any other sporty Toyota is costing more than this... Don't respond to this though, we don't need to go through this topic again :D
As for a dissapointment, I just think that the car would be dissapointing if it gets less than 20 mpg with some mods... Especially a stock TRD S/C... Also thinking with a turbo this might drop some more too since it'll be geared a bit more aggressive than the TRD S/C...
djimpak 04-02-2004, 12:54 PM yeah. that would be very dissapointing. it would suck to have a car run less than 20mpg if you turbo or sc it and you're a speed/power hungry
tC_Junkie 04-03-2004, 07:40 PM i highly doubt it will be available with the super charger for 17k...scion hasnt listed a price...so dont act like you know the price. one good bit of news is turbonetics has a turbo charger for it....and itll punp better than 20 mpg
yhsu1 04-03-2004, 10:16 PM one thing about the tC profile. from the picture it looks like the distance between the end of the door and the rear wheel are too far. so it makes tC look a bit top heavy. G35 coupe doesn't have this problem.
tC_Junkie 04-03-2004, 11:41 PM hahah G 35 coupe costs quite a bit more...i wont mind the distance if i can save 15 to 20 grand and put mods on my engine
KAuss 04-04-2004, 01:35 AM You can't build a G35C with another 15K added to the tC though :D G35C is probably one of the best looking coupes ever... (only after it's big brother the R34 :D :D: :D :D :D :D)
djimpak 04-04-2004, 05:18 AM oooooohhhh.....the R34 is beautiful. the best car i've ever seen. i would love to own one. :drooling: R34.... :drooling:
