Default best gas mod found

ok i used to get around 250-295 miles on a tank, using 87 gas. this last tank i got 358.

used to i drove 75-90 since i live in a rural area and can fly on back roads

i slowed down to 55-60 and coasting down hills and seems i got 2 more days of driving to work on the tank.

those of you that have a heavy foot like i used to. decide what is more important. speed, or money

my point right now is money :D

That is one of the better ways to do it. Also shift at 3000rpm or less. Dont try to do your best 0-60 from every red light your at. Keep clean oil in the engine, a clean air filter & proper PSI in the tires. Try to drive with out A/C as much as you can & dont have windows down at speeds above 55mph. Try not to have uneeded extra weight in the car. Those are some other things that can help keep your milage nice & high.

I have toped off my tank 2 times so far. The first time I got 35mpg & the second I got 31mpg. Both times was mostly just around base driving ie: 25mph-35mph speeds. I toped up at 3/4 of a tank left. For both top ups, I had 160Lbs in the car, worth of parts. The second trip was a little less milage, used the A/C a good deal. So if I can get my xB out on some open road, for a good road trip, I figure its more then possible to top 40mpg

good job! Driving like grandpa can have SO many benefits, both short term and long. I am overjoyed that I discovered this (the hard way through many cars) from years of pounding and blowing up cars. I now drive like I'm 75 and I love the benefits.

me too, got pulled over last week for doing 97mph in a 70mph zone on the turnpike (highway). I have slowed down! I get my lead foot from my dad! He is a maniac! Also the 97 had a little help from going down a hill the FHP was at the foot of the hill clocking me!

I know this is the xB area but this goes for all makes. i have been doing the same gramma driving here. Im getting about 100 miles more at this rate in my tC. there was a couple wild burts of being a leadfoot but for the most part shifting at or below 3K rpms will do wonders for mpg.

i hate gas

if you shift at 15 25 35 45 your gas milage rocks so hardcore. atleast in the tc. whatever the recommended speeds/rpms are you should use them. it helps alot

well if you have a heavy foot you can always unplug a couple of injectors and spark plugs, retard the timing some and add Toluene in the tank to increase ocatane and reduce knock

I've noticed since the latest gas price increase that many people are slowing down, including myself. I used to drive 75-80mph on the highway and got 30-32mpg. Recently I slowed to 65-70mph and got 34-35mpg. This tank I am sticking to 60-65mph to see what I get. I definitely notice a change because when I used to ride at 75-80 I was with the flow of traffic. You'd think dropping back to 60-65 I'd be getting passed, right? No sir. I'm with the flow still.

People are definitely thinking about saving that $$$$ before driving fast now.

No kidding. I'm a sunday driver, but everyone in my city thinks they're race car drivers, or something. (and they're incredibly reckless, considering that you see a fatal car wreck on the side of the highway damned near every day here) Luckily, i think i send out sunday driver vibes, cause other slowpokes seem to be attracted around me (or I to them) and we cluster like the last remaining cheerios in the bowl. But, beware, Mr. Leadfoots! Sunday drivers can have a lot of pent up aggression if they live in a city with lots of a$$hole 'racecar drivers'.

Thanks, for reminding me of the last gas crisis, i.e. the birth of 55 mile speed limit. I am not mocking you, just thanking you.
