is this xb a good deal?
Im in a place where scions are hard to get. Most are allready spoken for and a 3+ month wait for one. But i need a car now so i'd like some opinions.
A dealer has a 05 xb with 22,000 miles titles last november, says the owner used it for driving between business on highway. It has custom leather interior, wheels and tires. spoiler etc. some other stuff too. And they will "certify" it and give me the 7 yr 100,000 warranty
So they want 16,900 (too much i think) but what i really want is an 06 salsa red so i'll put down a deposit on the red one and the deaker will buy back the 05 in 6 months for $1500.00 less that what i'm paying him. Works out to 300+ a month. I'm paying cash. He'll also be happy to refund deposit and sell the red one if i choose to keep the 05.
Any opinions out there?
thanks

That's too much. He's asking more than the cost of a new one and he's trying to justify it with the added goodies. Yet when you try to trade a car in, you quickly find that most aftermarket add-on's add zero value to your car. You could have a $2,000 stereo, $1,500 rims, and a $5,000 custom paint job, and it's still only worth whatever a 2005 Scion xB is worth to a car dealer. If you're willing to drive out of your area for an xB, I'd buy a new one.
what we really want is the salsa red on in 6 months
05 would be kinda like a rental, he'll buy it back for 1500 less when we take delivery of the red one in january. I'll post a complete list of what's on this car (dealer installed)
right now you cannot find any new xb in this major metropolitan area. out of 05s and 06 are not here yet.

Sounds fishy to me. It he willing to sign a binding purchase agreement for $15, 400 in January? I bet not. Whayever he says, what he's really doing is selling you a used xB for way too much.
Plus you'll be out the sales tax and fees (probably an extra grand or thereabouts) on the second transaction.
Here's my advice:
Forget about the color. Find the closest dealer that can order you the car you want in an acceptable color within an acceptable time frame. Maybe they're 500 miles away. When the car arries, take a bus or fly there, pick up the car, and drive it home.
If you really care that much about the color, ghave yours painted in 6 months. But this "deal" sounds bogus, and so does the dealer.

That deal they are offering you might work out okay if it went exactly as you stated. The only way I would even consider it, would be if they put it in writing. I'd want every detail spelled out. Six months from now when your '06 comes in, they could deny they ever offered you that deal.

I would look closely at the stick he is offering an see if he is holding the long end and offering you the short end.
Something smells screwy...... From the sounds of it he is going to get a used one off the lot that you essentially borrow for 6 months then give it back and then he gets to sell you a new one. He wins both ways.
What's his take on the mileage added during that period of time. Let's say you put on an additional 10,000 miles and then bring it back is this ok? Any additional wear and tear allowed? Assume you add or remove something for your convenience or taste what then?
I see a lot of questions that would need to be outlined, defined and agreed upon in writing prior to a deal like this. Check the agreement over carefully and even have another 3rd person look at it from an uninterested viewpoint to see if it passes the smell test.
The old adage of "If it sounds too good to be true...." keeps coming to mind.

now, back to my deal, only 18000 for my 05 PW with 15000 miles
I don't know where you are located, but this dealer must come down about $2000.00 plus give you the buy back on paper, read the milage terms. I would hate for you to get ripped off, or feal bad about the deal. Search the net for the car you want, then arrange for delivery or pick up, so you will be a happy scion owner.
Here's another way to look at it. Let's say a bone stock '05 with 22,000 miles is worth...oh, I don't know...maybe $12,500. Now, if you really like the "extras" on that car, figure out what they are worth to you and add that to the $12,500. That's what I would offer them.
It may be worth checking outside of your area. I called around during my lunch hour last Thursday and found a 2006 - 5speed in white before half of my lunch hour was up. We stopped off after work and did the paper work and drove it home that night for all of $14,319
It wasn't listed so other dealers couldn't find it in their 'dealer-to-dealer searches'.
It had less than 40 miles when we drove it off the lot.
