Just wondering how i would keep my engine looking clean and new, any suggestions. The reason i ask is i kept smelling a burning smell after i drove my car, turned out to be when they did the oil change like aweek or 2 ago..it was burning off what they had spilled on top where the oil cap was...just wondering what i could use to clean or wash it off with.....any suggestions?

Thanks!

Try Orange Blast by Greased Lighting it is at Lowe's in the paint dept. Go to www.greased-lighting.com. It is in a orange spray bottle. Spray it on a COLD ENGINE and hose off. I just covered my alternator and went for it. Did a great job and no residue.

I use orange blast too.... i cover the fuse box and a couple of other little boxes.. (i use ziploc bags) Spray down the whole engine cold... and let a normal water hose go over it....

25k miles.. i do it once/twice a month.. no problems...

if anyone comes across this... heres my opinion. you cant really "keep" a clean engine because its inevitably going to get dirty.

if you want to get it clean and shiny, get 2 cans of GUNK and a can of cd2 engine detailer. heres a link from another forum im on, used these exact directions and it turned out great. OH, and you DONT need 2 cans of the detailer.

Try the Old School, spray it with Mr.Clean then hose off.

Mr.Clean doesn't hurt paint, rubber or plastic parts. I used it for cleabing under the hood of my old classic car.

You just spray it on, let it sit for 5 or 10 minutes, and hose it off.
Make sure to cover the alternator and battery so as not to get it inside those.Saran wrap or any cling wrap works.

"Simple Green" works wonders for your engine compartment too.

What about that Castrol Degreaser stuff that smells really bad and it's in a purple bottle? I have some of that in the shed.
