Default Toyota Service dept took something from my Xb

So I had to take my new 06 xB in for service yesterday, the radio stopped working and the rear wiper was not working from day one. It was at the shop all day.

So soon as I pulled into the bay the toyota guy comes over and opens my door while im getting my stuff, I got hurried and started talking to him.

So I made a huge huge mistake and didnt get everyting out of my car. My fault and im having to deal with that now.

So I pick the car up and start driving home and it hits me I left something in my zeta armrest console. I get sick to my stomach and slowly open it......

Gone, totally gone. Yes someone that worked on my car in the toyota service dept took it. What did they take??

Call me a fool and its my fault but its gone now, I had just gone to the bank for my mother and got some money out of my safety deposit box, and I forgot to get it out. Well guess what they didnt, they took 2000.00 cash in 100 dollar bills still wrapped in the bank wraper right out. Gone.

Im so sick right now I cant imagine having to tell my mother later that her savings is gone. I went to the toyota and got the standard sorry we are not responsible for items left in the car. WTF is that ____, you have an employee that just stole money from me and you have it logged who was working on my car and now you say sorry? Bleh.

Sad day, great country we live in.

I hate that they come and open your door before you're ready to get out.

Go to the General Manager of the dealership. If you get no satisfaction, the only thing you can do is not go there any more.

Sorry to hear about the loss.

get a lawyer and call the police. (in reverse order). The dealer might not be willing to do anything, but it's still grand theft.

Common problem with letting other people have access to a car. We tend to think of our cars as a private space and leave valuables there even when we should know better. When I take my car in for service I really strip it. Everything that is easily removable gets taken out.

I don't think that dealer mechanics are as much a problem in this way as folks at car washes and lube places. They're lower paid and not as well supervised as mechanics.

I've even heard of places where the manager would put a $20 bill in the ash tray of cars in for service to test the honesty of his staff. If the money disappeared, so would the employee.

The problem with this situation is that more than one person likely had access to the car. Service writer, mechanic, wash rack guy, etc. As soon as there is more than one person with access you can't put a definite finger of blame on anyone.

Thats a pretty large amount of money to go missing....I don't understand why they didn't just search the employees. Most people wouldn't have $2000 in their wallet.

Maybe the law doesn't allow that. I don't know.

If you don't, you should. It's part of your basic civil rights. Nobody is entitled to search their employees. The only way a person could be searched is by a cop, and then only within very narrow boundaries of warrant or probable cause. Considering the time that elapsed before the theft was discovered, a search wouldn't turn up anything.

Even if they did turn up an employee with $2k in his wallet, it still wouldn't mean anything unless there was some way of identifying the money.

I would have one of those window sticker guys make a big one for my back window that says that dealership employs thieves and to stay away.
I would then park in front of the dealership whenever I had free time and just read a book sitting in my car.

Not only would I tell all my friends about the theft... I'd call the local TV stations and let them know how this company wouldn't help you out... how your mother lost her savings etc. You might even find me with a few friends with signs walking around outside the dealership. That's a lot of money! I realize that they aren't "responsible" but to not even attempt to help you is terrible. It's like telling your employees that they can steal whatever they want to steal cause the dealer won’t do anything.

Totally unacceptable!

My son recently quit his job as a car salesman because the guys he worked with were dishonest… If people don’t stand up for what’s right, no one will even know that things are wrong!

After you have done what you can (like reporting it to the cops, calling local news people) if you don't get any compensation,
throw some rocks through some windows, you'll feel better
just wait a couple weeks , cops are pretty smart.
sorry about your moms money.

As everyone has mention, file a police report. At least it will be on file in the event something ever comes out of it.

Who knows, being if you filed a police report, report it to yuor insurance company. It might be worth a try?

first, you might want to just call the dealership and see what they have to say. going to the police and/or news and/or flaming the dealership might not be the best first step.

if you aren't satisfied with their response (and even if you are) you want o file a police report. they'll probably tell you it's pretty much a loss, but at least you want a report out there.

i truly am sorry that this happened to you and when i started reading i was thinking mp3, blackberry, at most laptop. when i read 2g's even i got sick to my stomach.

good luck, hope it turns out well for you.

you never know, they may have turned it in and just stuck it in the safe for you to ask for it back (longshot, but anything is possible).

Default Stolen money !!

Sorry to hear about your problem !

Did you have a reciept from when you took the money out ?? If so perhaps the time of day was on it and so should the paper work of the time you signed in for the dealers warranty work. Perhaps the proof you need it was in the car when you pulled into the dealer. Also ask them for a security tape of the entrance to prove you were there at the time you say you were. This is all just perhaps way to late but hey if it helps what the heck.

The fine print i think does show they are not responsible for lost items.

How many people a year go in and tell the dealer they lost a lap top.....mp3 player.....cash ect and really didn't ...... It's just hard to believe when most of the
general public is just down right dishonest and looking to make a buck, or as in your case a few thousand bucks!

Some of the posted responses do say call the law ...........if it hasn't been too long that maybe a great idea, SO DO IT ! But just be aware that if they don't find any evidence of your loss you may be the next suspect in the laws mind. If not for stealing but for filing a false report.

I'm not saying your lying but it just smells fishy ..........Again sorry about your loss !!!!!!

Or you could go over at night and firebomb the place.

That would show them.

No really.
