for those of you who live in a state where its illegal to not have a front plate, do you have it mounted anywhere else besides where the dealer drills the holes? when i got my tc i asked my sales lady to not have the holes drilled b.c i didnt want them through the front bumper. Does anyone have any kits or d.i.y. on alternative spots to mount the plate?

thanks.

There's a link in the Scion FAQ website (see sticky) that directs you to a website that sells mounting brackets. They attach to the grill so you don't have to drill holes. I bought one, but I'm waiting for my plates to come in, heh.

Its illegal in MD, but you'll never see a plate onvthe front of mine, some cars are just not ment to have them. Anyways, the MVA here can assign wavers, all you have to do is apply for one, then it's legal!

I don't think its illegal, but if its not clearly visable to a cop, he could pull you over just to be a, well a cop, you know how some of them go...

In Texas it IS illegal to put it in the front window and they will treat it as a case of no front license plate. I know two people who received tickets for no front plate even though it was in their front windshield.

nah, my dad welded it! ebay has some but their going for like $20 shipped! which is some bull cause all the supplies that we bought for mine was totalled out to $4. So if you know someone that welds, have them just look one and they should pretty much know how to make it! its better than the bumper holes cause i can mount it n e where on the grill!

Hey I also got a bracket similar to this.. it looks more homemade than that but I'll sell it you. I'll take some pictures of the bracket and post it here. I bought it for 20 bucks from ebay as what Yanki was talking about.... Since I'm not using it, i'll probably sell it for 5 plus shipping. Or you can probably make it homemade up to you.

BTW This is the bracket I have http://cgi.ebay.com/Scion-XB-XA-TC-Front-License-Plate-Bracket-Relocator_W0QQitemZ4592313258QQcategoryZ42611QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I'll post the pictures of the bracket that mounts to the lower grille and see if you can make it yourself.

Yanki01

a 5/16 or 3/8" x 5-6" all threaded bolt for adjustment, welded to the steel plate. pre-drill steel plate to match license plate holes. big washers for support on the grille. total was around $3, if you know someone that can weld, just show him a pic and he should know the rest!

I know its a newb question, but is it against the law to just put on ur dash wen ur driving and then hide it so so dumb a$$ dosent break into my nice tC to steal my license plate.

If you live in a state where it is illegal to have the fron tplate off, then it is also illegal to have the plate in your windshield. Also it is highly unlikely to have someone break into your car to steal your plate when they are easily accessible from the outside. Who would break into your car to steal a plate when they could just take the one off the back?!

Air2TheThrown
01-14-2008, 07:42 AM
Technically, having the plate behind anything is illegal, including glass. That's why you'll get a fix it ticket if you have a clear cover on the plate (in CA that's how it is). Also, think about the hazard of having a loose metal plate wedged inside your cabin, and you get into a collision that unwedges that metal plate... bye bye head...

washington state you have to have the front plate. but i have seen a few cars without them. don't know if they've been harrassed about it though. i've never had it on and i've driven onto post here at fort lewis with no hassle. but i have veteran plates so they probably let me slide.

I've gotten a no front plate ticket from a WA Trooper. So decided to put the plate on the bottom. It fits great and will not fall out with some big screws I just got tired of having to pop the grilles off to get it out for shows. Now I just have it in the window with suction cups...gotta find something to put around it so's I don't get decapitated:

Nick did something similar to what Yanki did. He made some L-shaped brackets and screwed into the bumper along the top edge of the bottom grille. Even with the hardware removed you don't see the holes.

Has anyone thrown down for p-tuning's tow-hook license plate mount?

http://twurl.cc/10bj

Looks legit and the ability to offset it would be nice. Just a little pricey.

I have Ptuning's license plate relocator. It looks nice from the front but I hate the side profile. Doesn't look nice from the side/top at all.

I actually have a license plate surround now and I also drilled the cover and put it back on so that it looks cleaner. I will have to take a new pic.

I got a ticket for running with no front plate back home, so I had to put it back on.. After a while I started to like having a front plate on my car
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c272/VicioustC/My%20tC/IMGP2294.jpg
Then I noticed it looked kinda weird having my front plate there when I had holes in my bumper for them

I liked the angled license plate bracket, not sure if everyone else does though.

Its illegal in MD, but you'll never see a plate onvthe front of mine, some cars are just not ment to have them. Anyways, the MVA here can assign wavers, all you have to do is apply for one, then it's legal!

Hmm..I've been pulled over twice already in the last month for no front license plate. Anyone know of this "waver"?

General Question - What if the dealer made holes in your front bumper only because you didn't know it was done that was so you did not know to stop them?

Can I get caps or something to hide/fill the holes? I like the hook mount!

Been license plate free in the front, and tinted in front in CA. Still no ticket, knock on wood though. Just don't drive stupid and they wont pull you over. Passed plenty of cops, driven behind them, gone through airports, pulled at next to them, still nothing. knock on wood again.

I got mines from i-kona when he use to be legit. Looks like booty but whatever, better than 2 black holes

Anyways supposedly its illegal to have a dealer let the driver out of the lot without holes drilled for license plates.

Yeah I saw this, but us 08+ guys don't have the Honey comb lower grill and no one I saw had one of these on the 08+.

On top of that, Ptuning's plate holder is pretty solid and I can spin it out when I need to go through the car wash. Just keep an adjustable wrench in the glove box.

what i dont like about it is that it hold the license plate straight instead of a slant angle to accommodate the bumper. most of the so called JDM license plate relocators hold them straight because most of the older cars had a flatter design like the integra's for example.

the 808 customs plate can and have been used with the non honey comb lower grills all u need is bigger washers and thats it. ive had ZERO problems going threw car washes or going fast. grill still stays in place perfectly. the 808 customs plate locator is kind on a slant how u say dejablu but not much. I have mine on a slant going in torwards the lower part of the bumper on the passenger side ill get pics if ud like. Also dejablu they have that "gaydm" plate slant thing that alot of people have i think its totally ___ but alot of people like it ill post pics if u guys would like

Had to go to MVA today. While I was there I asked the service person and she said there's no such thing =/

It should be relatively cheaper, I'm undecided if I want to buy tow hooks and sell it as a kit, or have people send in their tow hooks and I do the work and ship it out, I'm leaning toward the latter......I would of course cover shipping cost of the tow hook to me, and the shipping back, Anyone else interested?

Nice! I have been running mine for 2+ years. Except I have a foam/rubber pad stuck to the back of the plate, so it can rest against the bumper w/ no damage.

I have one made of lexan that mounts to the under lip of the bumper, so you can take the bolts out and not have any visible hoels. its for my kami bumper tho, but I'm sure it would still work for oem bumpers.

I did pretty much the same thing as Yanki01, but I set mine down low on the bottom grill, I also set the plate a little lower than my front lip, so that it scrapes before I hit the lip on my car, I use it as a feeler.

i trimmed my license plate so it fits in my lower grille and just zip tied it right on... i sort of like how it looks ive been pulled over so many times for running without it its not worth it to keep it off http://www.facebook.com/people/Cp-Inter/1433045037#/photo.php?pid=11107&id=100000017324610
