Default The key to getting better MPG out of your xB

I was getting 30-31 MPG. '05 5 sp 17" wheels. I drive very gentle, and I never went over 3000 rpm. 1200 miles on the odo. 90% city driving

This last tank I decided to try only taking the RPM's to around 2700. I was unsure of when the vvt kicked in, but I knew that I was feeling more power at around 2800-2900, so I figured that is the first threshold. I instantly saw results when I filled up today- 33.3 MPG!!

You will not get anywhere quickly, but man, I LOVE that number!!

When you fill up reset your tripometer. Next time you fill up divide how many miles you went by how many gallons you just put in.

the most accurate way I know to do this is to fill until it clicks off and then when you refill do the same then divide miles by gallons..my las tank 34mpg driving it hard....

before I even put the turbo on my car I was only getting like 230 miles to a fill up...I wasnt really driving too much highway though. I was figuring about 23 mpg w/ I/H/E and pulley. Now I get like 180 miles to a tank if I hit the highway for a lil bit. I need to put a smaller fuel pump in there, the 255LPH is too much right now.

Default it depends...

Computing gas mileage can be tricky. You also need to know how much is left in your tank.

When my low gas light comes on, I figure I still have about 1.5 gallons in the tank. So if you are assuming your almost empty when you still have 1.5 gallons left your MPG will divide out to be much lower.

Yes, my rooster has his own website,

To add to the accuracy, this should be done over several fill-ups.

about 600 miles on the odo. 17x7 Wheels with a 215/40R17 Falken tire. I have a SRI+Exhaust. My worst tank was 32mpg (all around town w/ac on) My best was 39.24xxmpg (still around town but less stop & go no ac) I have a 5spd also. The thing to try though, is shifting before 2500rpm, My normal day to day shift is around 2200rpm.

That's what I'm going to try this time.

In reference to figuring: I have a small notepad, and I keep track of each tank. I fill to the first click. If you're getting 190 at the 1/2 tank mark, then you're looking at around 32 mpg. For example: I was a full needle mark above 1/4, and I had something to the effect of 260 miles. I divided that into the gallons (7.8, if I recall correctly) = 33.33 MPG.

Yeah, I was at 190 at half a tank.... filled today 6.6 gals to fill and 219 on the odo at the time about 33mi/gal? first tank of gas ever!

wow is there something wrong with my xb? I just put in 9.4 gallons and got 239 miles. So thats about 25 mpg. I drive 100 miles a day on the highway and only have an intake for performance but have 18x7 wheels with 215/35/18 tires.
Any suggestions?

If you shift below 3k you get awesome mileage.

You will also be the slowest car on the road. At least where I live .

Your wheels are too heavy, and you're driving on the highway, probably at high rpm's. The only way to get GOOD highway mileage is to be able to drive non-stop at a steady speed. My box gets worse mileage on the 'highway', because around here the highways have stoplights, and anything over 58 mph and the rmps are around 3k. Your intake is also forcing more gas/air.

I highly doubt this. How are you calculating your mpg? Doesn't sound right at all.

OK, If I'm reading the above posts (and other threads) correctly, a lot of ppl are making this complicated when it is not. ALWAYS ignore the gas gauge for mileage calculations.

1. Fill tank (stop at one or 2 clicks)
2. Reset trip meter
3. Drive until time to refill
4. Fill tank in the same manner as before and check the gallons of gas just purchased
5. Divide the number of miles driven by the number of gallons just purchased

Viola

As stated above, if you do this over several tanks of gas, you will get a more accurate average.
