Default AHHH !@#$%^&*Hit and Run!

So I was parked in the back of this shopping center and was to relieve this guy from work for a hour while he goes to grab some lunch. When I come back out I see my driver's side mirror dangling by a wire and the whole area around the front tire dented and scratched up...what to do? I have no idea who could have done it, but obviously they didn't stick around to see who they hit. I'm so ____ed right now...pics to follow...

File a police report and check with your dealership to see what they can do to get a replacement fender and side rear-view mirror.

Ditto the police report and then ask the shopping center if they have security cameras on the lot. Try to get the tape and see what you can figure out. I know walmart has cameras on most of their lots - maybe many others do as well.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how will a police report help?
There are no cameras in the shopping center...

Police report will put it into record, which will let your insurance know YOU didn't cause the damage (not that it matters for fixing it, just ins. rates maybe), if the hit-n-run left paint residue maybe (a loooong maybe) they may one day find the car with matching paint? Hell, it won't HURT you to file a report. They found the kids that egged my tarus, and while I didn't get cash, I got names >

I just went through this problem. Everyone is right about the police report. They can't do much to help, but the insurance company will need the report to be filled (they might require it).

I hope there were cameras for the area. It is probably the only way you will find out who did the nasty damage.

I know you are MAD but it won't help get you car repaired. If I ever catch the fool the hit and ran on my car ... well it better not be a dark alley if you know what I mean.

POLICE REPORT IS IMPORTANT! I know it feels like it is pain in the ___ but it is worthed. If you dont file it and you drive that car around and somehow you get stopped by the police, he might think you just did hit and run.

This happened to me once. I drove around my damaged Honda accord. I stopped by a 7 eleven and a cop asked me where and when I got the damage. Then he went inside his car and check the puter. they did have it on file that I just had a fender bender with someone. Obviously it is too late now because you already drove home.

Many hit and run result in the left over of paint residue and if you can find some1 who can analyze and find out what paint from what type of car you can walk around the lot to see who has that kinda of car and if there car was damage from the hit and run and yep file a police report and if you can find out who.. get a shot gun and shoot every car in the lot with dents on there bumper

oh my lord!!! thats nuts.. i would have gone crazy if i came outside to my car.. like after shopping at the mall or somethin..

call ur insurance company and file a claim... looks to be a collision claim.. and i bet thats at least $1200 in damage.. so yea like the other guys are sayin... hopefully your deductibles are low .. so u dont have to pay much out of pocket

i remember when i was living in NY... i had comprehensive which covers fire, theft vandalism, storms and animals.. at a $500 deductible... with full glass coverage.... which means i pay no money out of pocket if my glass is damaged.
my collision which covers hitting a solid object... ie car house fence etc.... was at $500 as well

but now living in NC... they dont have the full glass coverage option..and its cheaper as far as insurance goes in NC... so i got a free vehicle inspection at the local Jeff Gordon Cheverolet.. and my company GEICO.. lowered my deductible on Comprehensive to a $0.00 ded.. and collision to $100.00...

so if anything happens the most i pay out of pocket is $100.00 thank god!

oh i recommend everyone at least call their insurance company and quote lower deductibles on ur car... just to see the price difference.. or check out their optional coverages... like Emergency Roadside Service, Towing, Rental Reimbursement... Mechanical Breakdown insurance, Loss of
Use, Towing and Labor... these are all fancy names for coverages that are not mandatory but are available at most if not all companies.
they definitely help out when your in a bind~!

at geico.. they offer these coverages for almost all of the 49 states they insure policyholders in [other companies may have different names for these coverages but they relatively mean the same thing and pay out in the same situations]
